Any word on when new shipments are expected in North America? There are a few conflicting press releases out there. I'm a long time fan boy and I was thinking of picking one up around now or next week.

I've heard that walmart is going to get 1 more shipment before christmans, but its a rumor, so it may have no basis in fact

Pretty happy with my Wii...having lotsa fun.
My only worry is how dated the graphics will look in a few years..when the system is in the main part of life system cycle. I guess we'll see.

Its meant more to be a general, family oriented system. Not a hard-core gamer graphics intensive system. Its more about how you play the game than how much detail you can get into a texture or how glossy the side panel of the car looks. I would much rather play an innovative, interactive game that's made of large polygons than play by pushing a few buttons on a game that looks like its real life.

And in the said few years, yet another next gen console will be released by Nintendo, because I definitly don't see them going away anytime soon.

Arg. I finally got in touch with my Best-Buy connection; he said they are expecting another 20 sometime tomorrow, but still have about 30 spoken for. They have got 20-30 every friday since the 19th, but it looks like this will be the last before the 29th. Damn shame though, this is the only time of the year I expect to have the time to spend. I hope I still want one in 2007.

Besides that, the console is still new, the game developers arn't anywher near getting the most out of the system graphics wise.

I have one, but it's a Christmas gift for my nephew, so I haven't cracked it open and given it a go.

Not to say that I won't be swinging like a wild-man on Ritalin come Christmas day, but for now...nothing.

It's easier around here to grab a PS3 than it was getting my hands on a Wii. I'm within driving distance of about half a dozen Wal*Mart stores. At every story, the Wii shipments have been semi-regular, albeit small. So, they sell out quickly. I had to get up at 5:00 a.m. drive half an hour and wait in line for a couple of hours to get #5 in a shipment of 9 consoles.

For shits and giggles I called the same set of stores about a PS3--the good package, not the marginally crippled package. Half of the them have "a couple on the shelf."

I camped on release day from 2AM to 10AM at Toys R Us. I got one and my brother got one, that way we have one to play and one to eBay. I have Zelda, and am getting Need for Speed for Christmas.

I'm pretty sure others out there will value your time spent to get the Wii more than I would. I considered ebay long enough to perform a search, see what they were going for, and decide that I didn't want one nearly as bad as many other people. I understand gaming, I understanding wanting to play the newest systems and games when they are brand new, but I don't understand how you can want it bad enough to camp out or pay insane amounts to do so.

the wife and i showed up at eb games at midnight on launch day. the store clerks had all the packages prepped and we were out the door in less than ten minutes with a system + another wii remote.

we stayed up till 3 fiddling around w/the system and playing wii sports. i woke up at 7 the next morning to get a few games at target when they opened... picked up rayman, zelda, and the new monkey ball.

brief synopsis of impressions:

rayman - great launch title, already beaten it. easy for friends/family to pick up. one of the funniest videogames i've ever seen. we (the wife and I) had a couple come over last weekend who seldom play videogames. they were giggling like schoolgirls when playing this game. we've been invited to a holiday party over there this weekend and their first request is that we bring 1) a dessert and 2) the wii.

monkey ball - decent... the regular level design is still topnotch. the 50 mini-games are a mixed bag (as you'd probably expect). the dev team should have put all their time into polishing the top 10 games rather than spread the wealth over so many. the wii-remote is responsive and seldom even noticed w/the exception of in the (often annoying) boss battles. the new jump play mechanic is awesome, should have been there in all the past titles.

zelda - 6 hours in and only in the second dungeon. this game is deep, well thought out and FUN!!! cinematics are uncharacteristically good for a nintendo game. graphics WILL NOT amaze anyone but they get the job done. i think the art direction and pure force of love/imagination poured into this game make up for the last-gen visuals. if you have the system and even slightly enjoy action/adventure games this is a definite buy.

i think we played this darn thing for 13 of the first 18 hours we had it (meals and sleep-time included). judging from my nongamer-friends playing it for hours on end, my mom going crazy during a game of wii tennis, and my sisters fighting over the wii-remotes... nintendo has got a big-friggin hit on its hands.

As we were driving today, I said I just wanted to make a quick stop at Toys'r'us to see if they got the wii shipment that they were rumored to be getting. My lovely wife said we didn't have time. I was understandably confused at this point, as we didn't have anywhere to be. Then she was uncharacteristically assertive and said "I don't want you to buy a nintendo". I was also confused at this point, because a month ago she was telling me I should get one. Then a possible explanation dawned on me, I didn't go into toys'r'us, and perhaps I'll be an excited little boy Christmas morning. Either that, or mighty annoyed.

Sadness. Of all the thousands of wireless routers out there, I have one of the three that doesn't play nicely. Downloads take aaaages, and often just hang.

I just finished exams and the office where I work is closed in 5 hours for a week. As I was walking home, I was thinking that I wised I had a Wii, since I have at least 3 full days to kill.

My wonderful wife left me a package on the counter. An early christmas present, apparently she knew I wanted it early. No zelda, but an extra controller. I'm quite excited.

I HATE MONKEY BALL, YOU SUCK, I HATE YOU, MORE THAN I HATE MARIO SUNSHINE, DAMN YOU TO HELL!.

...needless to say it is getting on my nerves.

What router do you have? If it's a Belkin, you might be out of luck :)

Initially I got the impression that PS3s would be non-existent in stores, and Wiis readily available, especially through the holidays.

Yet, based on my readings at various gaming forums, it seems that the opposite has occured; with PS3s being available, and Wiis being had to find in stores.

I've no idea about the validity of such claims, but if true, it's an interesting comment on how a more appealing system was able to overcome and outsell that of a potentially overhyped one.

Yep. Of all the wireless routers in the world, there's three that have problems with the Wii.

So, you're SOL, if it's one of those. Either get the USB wifi thingo from Nintendo, or get another router. I have the second one, and have -mixed- success. Downloading is slow but it does go online, most of the time. They have issues with the DS as well.

Alright, I got a call from my local games shop, I can go pick up my Wii at my leisure now :D (which will be next tuesday, oh well...)

Just got mine today and I must say I haven't been this excited about or had this much fun with a new gaming systems since SNES. I got Zelda, Red Steel, Elebits, and the Sports package then I ordered a bunch of olds SNES, Genesis, and Turbo games. After I opened it I played Zelda and Red Steel about an hour each then I popped in Sports and couldn't sit it down for over 2 hours! All the different sports are great ('cept bowling). I actually found myself getting a light sweat on with tennis and boxing. Maybe it's just the light exercise pumping some adrenaline into me, but I am just psyched about this thing. Any recommendations for other games? I was thinking about Call of Duty and the other golf game.

i got my wii a few days ago, and it's pretty good! i got lucky, though... i figured the only way i was going to find one was to snag one with a jacked up price on ebay, or something. but then, by chance, i ran across a link to one of those wii/ps3 watchers, where amazon just happened to be in stock. :) i only got Zelda and Rayman along with the sports pack-in, but so far it's pretty good. i've downloaded 4 vc games also. my lil bro who's an x360 fan can't stop breathing on it:lol:! not to mention the gamecube games i never played that i picked up for really cheap! yea, this thing's really great. i'm not an early adopter, but after demoing a wii in gamestop a little while ago, i just couldn't pass it up.
