The great big I got a PS3 and you didn't thread
No, I did not get one, just thought the title would be appropriate.
I live in Columbus OH, and work nights, I got off work at 3am and checked a few places and this is what I found. EB/Gamestop had midnight madness sales, all stock gone and stores closed until normal business hours.(I pass 4 of them on my way home so I checked all of them) Circuit City had 6 units 10+ people in line camping. Best Buy had about 20-30 tents wrapped around the building along with a 30 foot RV parked "in line" with the tents. According to their ad and the website each store got 6 of the 20 gig units, and 20 of the 60 gig units. Target had a small tent city in front consisting of about 15+ people, store had 8 units. Meijer had a midnight madness sale, all stock gone. So that was my journey around my end of town this morning, was anyone here able to get their hands on one and able to give us a first impression of the hardware and or games. One of the early reports coming out was that the system, contrary to what Sony is advertising, will not, put out in 1080i, so it downshifts if you will into 480 or 720 on your HDTV. Also hearing reports of the system having problems playing a lot of older PS2 games, which the system is supposed to handle with no problems since they included the PS2 emotion engine chip system, whereas the xbox 360 backwards compatibility relies on a software emulation system to play older xbox v.1 games. |
lol i dont get why people wait outside and camp for days. If you preordered chances areyou'll be informed when your order is ready. If you didnt preorder you're most likely fucked. If by chance you didnt preorder and have some chance at getting a system waiting in line will do NOTHING for you since once they open the doors anyone can just walk in.. in any order.. rush to where they have them, and grab one.
*shrugs* no0bs.. whadda gonna do eh? |
I'm so behind the gaming curve... lately I've been thinking about picking up an X-box (not a 360) because they're just so cheap now. So to all who get one, enjoy the overpriced, buggy PS3.

I don't want anyone blabbering about their ps3 unless they had to either, A) Mug someone for it, or B) Got mugged with it and fought off the assailant. Frankly, unless one of those two apply, you didn't really earn your ps3. :)

I think the funniest story I read was about a mugger who had to be treated for serious stab wounds after he tried to take someone's ps3.
Score one for armed nerds. |
This PS3 rage is a bit ridiculous, shootings, stabbings, mugging, it's a stupid game system.....amazing what a life is worth anymore, or the lack of worth....

Speaking of funny PS3 incidents, I present smash my ps3. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CTy7Nx0oPI

Some other guys did the same thing with the 360 when it came out - so this guy isn't being original either. |
an interesting story from an ebay auction

lol, thats a damned funny story.

OK, so this has been turned into a big blubbering mess, no one got their hands on one, or has been able to play one and let us know how it is?
Any of the issues I listed above in the original post anyone know anything about? |

oh and lol to m0rpheus, the 360 was by far the buggiest system at launch. It had a ton of problems. And how is the PS3 overpriced? If you get a 360 and the wireless adapter for it, it comes out to $500, the same price as the low end PS3 and only $100 cheaper than the high end one. I think $100 is a huge steal for a Blue Ray DVD player. |
I'm going to wait to pickup a PS3 when there is a game I really want to play. Perhaps Final Fantasy XIII will be that game in 2008. Blu-Ray looks like it will lose the format war with HD DVD Players flooding the market and the PS3 being the only Blu-Ray player in the US market for the holidays.
|
Lair and White Knight Story look like games that also might help the PS3 a lot in sales when they come out.
|
Resistance: Fall of Man is the PS3's killer app. If you do get your hands on a PS3, get Resistance with it.
|
again I have to ask, anyone actually have one and can shed some light on the console itself? How was the setup for online gaming? Is there any benefit to having the built in wireless with the 60 gig version vs the 20 gig one?
Issues with any gameplay of the older PS2 games, or how about the system supposedly not putting out in 1080i which the spec sheet says it will do. |

I think it's the same guys... maybe different people doing the actual smashing in the video, but the same establishment. http://www.smashmyxbox.com/ they have one for Ipod, Wii, and PS3 (of course) also. |
man... only hours after they went on sale I found out that the Sony store in San Francisco sold SEVEN HUNDRED PS3s! I could have been in line a mere 11 or less hours to get a PS3 and flip it on eBay, that would have been like, $100 or $200 an hour to stand in line.

Woah!!! I didn't know that the Xbox 360 can play Blu-Ray movies and play PS2 exclusive games... that's amazing!!!!!!   |

Wait, also, doesn't the addon to play HD-DVD's cost $200? If so, it is the same price to get a high end XBox 360 that can do the equivalent of what the top end PS3 can do right?
And I am looking at the website now, and it doesn't say anything about having the ability to play wirelessly out of the box but it does give a link to the wireless adapter for $100. Is this true? If it is, then the PS3 is actually cheaper than the 360 which should shut all the people up who say that the PS3 is so expensive. |

I never said that the 360 wasn't/isn't buggy. The PS3 is overpriced due to the fact that it is the hot new thing and is priced as such. It will come down in price if you are willing to wait (and I am) just like the PS2 did. |
I finally got my PS3 (had a preorder since October). 60 GB version. I want to shred it open and play Resistance. The Ebay prices aren't too sexy right now. If I can't sell it for at least $1500, I don't want to. And the prices on there aren't showing that. I originally intended on buying it for gaming purposes only; the freakshows that paid into the thousands for the system got me thinking otherwise. What do you guys think? Shred it open or try to sell?
|
No harm in putting it up with a minimum of $1500. If you get what you want for it then you are set. If you don't get it then you get to play. Seems like an easy decision to me!!

Not a bad idea. Thanks!

Just an update to the thread.
I just put in an order at gamestop.com for a PS3 bundle deal. http://www.gamestop.com/gs/ps3/ps3_signup.asp right around $1200 shipped for thr 60gig, 6 games, extra Sixaxis controller, strategy guide for Resistance, 1 year EB/GS warranty, and a 12 months sub. to Game Informer magazine. Expected ship date is 01/05/07 I can wait for it, I don't need it for the holidays and have no family to worry about purchasing for. A lot of people are banging on the price, but they are cutting no deals so full retail on everything, and outside of NBA 07 I planned on buying all those games when I got my hands on a system anyway so I am not too disappointed, it is just a large chunk of change to drop at one time if you don't have it and I understand that is what is turning off many people to such a bundle deal. |
Oh man! I just opened my PS3, after seeing the piss-poor Ebay listings ($800 Buy It Now for 60 GB, etc.).
The damn thing has FINGER PRINTS and smudges and SCRATCHES all over it!!!!!!!!!!!! At first I didn't believe it. I just couldn't believe it. But not only that, the power switch (I/O flip switch) on the back was ON. And the power cable was out of the bag. It was still wrapped up in the twist-tie, but out of the bag. It wouldn't be that big of a deal if I didn't pay fucking $600 for it. I want a NEW system. Not some pre-owned crap. So I go to get some paper towels and a cloth, and neither will get some of the smudges off of it. They are PERMANENT. And there are buff-scratches, where it looks like someone tried to get fingerprints off of it!!!!!!!! I think the guys at Gamestop opened it up and played with it. And then packed it back in the box. Like I said, a lot of the spots just won't come off. They are ingrained into the casing. It looks like someone put WD-40 on it or something at some of the spots. And there are a couple of 4" long scratches on the top of it that won't come off. I called Gamestop, and the manager said because I did so much business there (bought a Wii and Zelda and PS3 60 GB and Resistance) that I could bring mine in in FEBRUARY and trade it in for a new one for no cost. They don't have any right now to trade with me, apparently. He said I could play mine all I wanted until February, then trade it in for a new one. So that's good, I guess. I just would like a new one right now. That's what I paid for. |
That's pretty messed up right there, RedJake. At least they are going to replace yours, but that's completely un-professional for GameStop to do. I would demand a free game or something. :D
You just better hope that there isn't some new manager there by February. |
update for my Gamestop order my ship date was January 5th, on the 12th I get a phone call from my credit card company asking to verify that it was indeed me who placed the order (good job on their part checking)
But anyway I see in my order detail that all items except one of the games is in stock and ships in 24 hours.....fast forward to the 13th, I get up to get ready for work and see order status of Processing next to all my items, very confusing. Fast forward to an hour ago, get home from work check e-mail and see a delivery notice from Gamestop and UPS. MY ORDER IS ON IT'S WAY, EXPECTED IN HOME DECEMBER 14TH!!!!!!! This is awesome, I order a sold out system and get it in 3 days!!!! Will report on gameplay, any issues I run into, or problems once I get hooked up and online. |
redjake - Id go down there and get it in writing or something, just in case they forget.
