WoW CCG
Yeah so in the same vein of Magic:The Gathering
We now have a CCG based on WoW. Every store here sold out of it in under 3 hours, and I still have 2 unopened starter kits. considering some of these "loot cards" are going for hundreds of dollars on ebay already (with bids) I think the collectible value of this game is more in the reseller market than in the card shops. As far as the game itself, kinda early for me to say, but it appears that deck designs will be rather limited until they introduce more than literally, 16 different heroes (aka, 16 decks) Honestly, I would suspect the game to have been a flop if not for the MMO being intertwined in the points program and loot card aspects of it all. heres some links on it. http://entertainment.upperdeck.com/wow/en/ singles valued online so far? http://www.toywiz.com/wowcards.html |
How does it play?

well the play guide is present at the 1st link I presented, I haven't gotten a real chance to do in depth playtesting with it, but it's basically on the same pace with magic, only a little more hero/creature oriented.

I've heard it referred to as a hybrid of Magic and Vs. I've never played Vs so I can't really comment on that but the game is very heavily based on the Magic system. Almost all the cards have a Magic equivalent and if you know how to play Magic you'll pick up WoW in no time.
Gameplay wise I find it to be more enjoyable than Magic, due to the resource system they use. Getting rid of manascrew is a big plus in my books. Instead of choosing what colors of mana to use you decide which hero you'll play. Your card selection is then limited according to hero class/faction. With nine different hero classes, and sixteen different heroes, there appear to be many different possibilities for deck building. Combat is character to character. In the flavor department, I prefer WoW to Magic, for both the setting and the gameplay. I don't play WoW, but I 'get' the WoW setting due to my other fantasy interests. There's always been a disconnect between the backstory of Magic and the game of Magic, but I can overlook that because the game is that good. The WoW cardgame just seems to integrate both flavor and gameplay in a way that Magic never has, which makes it that much better to me. |
I haven't seen most of the cards for this game yet. I picked up a couple starters and like 10 or so boosters but I'm liking it so far. The gameplay is nice. Reminds me of magic and vs as said before and also of warlord a little.

I bought a starter deck and a couple boosters.. but I honestly still don't quite understand the rules of play with this game. I'm so used to Magic (from years ago, this is the first CCG I've played in a long time) that I just can't figure it out, lol. I gotta try reading through the manual..again. :P
edit: Just wanted to mention that the card art is pretty much the primary reason I purchased it, but now I want to actually play. |
