The Godfather

I just bought this as I'm a big fan of the film, and I have to say, I like it!
Essentially, it's GTA in 1940's New York, but it's a lot better than the other rip-offs.
The story of the game follows the story of the film and I really like the way they plant your character into it. It's you who plants the gun in the restaurant and puts the horses head in the bed.
I'm really looking forward to finishing this game to see how else they get you to take part and working my way up the Corleones to Don!
It's certainly holding my interest a lot more than any of the GTA's did.

I'm surprised no one else has posted about this, is no one else playing/or played this game?

never even heard of it. but back in the day i was a fan of the pc game mafia that sounds like its basicly the same concept. GTA style game play but back in the 1920s Nothin like stealing a old rust bucket car that has a top speed of 40 miles an hour and can hardly make it up the hills.

You can also get it on Xbox, Xbox 360, PSP, PC & the Wii (when it comes out)

The 360 version isn't released yet. Not until mid September. Should be interesting to see what's new.

I've played both Mafia and The Godfather for PC. The two games are very similar, but The Godfather feels more like GTA than Mafia did. The Godfather includes a much larger map, lots of side missions and different cars with different speed limits. Mafia did a good job when it came out, but it felt more restrictive in that you pretty much had to stick to the missions which were laid out. The Godfather offered the ability to complete the story missions but also the ability to go out into the world before you and complete side missions or just interact. You don't have to follow the story until you're ready. The Godfather story missions are fairly simple to complete with a couple of difficult ones. One thing I liked was the timed missions gave you plenty of time to complete the mission. I always felt in GTA some of the timed missions were difficult to complete due to the time constraint. In the Godfather you have lots of time the focus is on getting the job done.

i just picked it up for the 360. i have never played any style of gta until this one. i am a halo wonk.

gf is pretty cool. i am getting sort of sick of the drive times between the boroughs. also, it is bullshit about only having a couple of safehouses to save. i got wrapped up in playing for a couple hours and forgot to save, only to really be pissed earlier tonight when i realized it.

The more you progress, the more safehouses you can buy. There must be about 20 altogether.

cheeterbo 10-04-2006 10:23 AM

yeah but they are so expensive. i think i am doing something wrong because i only have 40k. the safehouse i went to buy was 80k!!!!
