PS2 and HDTV?

I've just hooked my PS2 up to my HDTV rig and things just don't seem to look very good. I tried MSG3 and Devil May Cry and both looked blocky...

Is there a way to turn progressive scan on in the PS2? Does anyone know of any PS2 games that look particularly good on an HDTV?

Please don't make me go buy an XBOX 360.

When you boot it up your PS2, press & hold "triangle" and "X" button. You might need a component cable.

Edit: This is a list of PS2 games with progressive scan.

check and see if your tv inputs allow you to change the name of the input... if you can select the input as "game" or something similar, it will remove the upscaling and that should fix the blockyness.

it might make a difference on how you have the ps2 hooked up to the hdtv. if you just have cheap rca cables that might be the problem with the blockiness.

component > svideo > rca cables for hookup for sure. but generally, the blockyness will come from the hdtv trying to upscale the ps2 signal, looks good for some formats, but it trashes console clarity.

The only true HD PS2 game is GT4. Goes up to 1080i and looks sweet on component

Yeah, the component cables are pretty key. Sony makes the PS2 brand cables pretty cheap, but I recommend the Psyclone brand component cables, much better quality. Your cables can make all the difference in the world.

I was indeed using crappy RCA cables...just picked up component set from MadKatz. Looking forward to Resident Evil 4 tonight.

Geez, I bought some cheap components off ebay, and hooked up to a 720p projector, my games are looking great. All of the games I've played are 480p with progressive turned on, and my screen changed to widescreen. Usually in the video options of the game.
