What consoles is it going to be released on? Just checked... Xbox and Xbox 360 as well as PC. I might rent it for Xbox to see if it plays well. I don't have any plans to get a 360 anytime soon.

I know I really enjoyed the original games back in the 90's... the 90's? Holey shit I'm old.
So anyway, I'll probably pick this up, I hope there's a playable demo soon.

pretty sure its coming out for PS2 also. Might be cool if they undo the previous like 90 Tomb Raider games.

I for one am hoping to the gaming gods that this game is great. I was a huge fan of the first one, and the rest of the games have been downright shitty. Poor Lara.

I haven't played any Tomb Raider games since the first one on my good old Pentium 70! Christ that was a long time ago.

So I just installed the game and played for about 20 minutes.
Early review... it's awesome. It's true to the originals, similar in play and feel, it just looks a billion times better. It boasts some "new generation" of video technology that unfortunately my GeForce6800 is choking on. So I have to play it slightly under max specs. Which is a drag, but even there it looks great.

Is there a demo available? I'd check it out, but ever since the first installment I haven't really gotten into the TR games. So I'm not buying it outright.

Ok I take back what I said earlier about this game. It's crap. Don't buy it.
Too much focus on combat and guns. There was very little shooting on the early games and this is not much more than a cut rate 3rd person shooter. There are a few fun jumping games and some puzzles that are a little interesting but not enough to carry the game. Each level has a boss that has to be killed by some bizzare and unintuitive process and the final boss (where I am now) is waaaay too frustrating to be fun. Sure it looks nice and all, but this game gets a mere 5.5 out of 10. Edit, one final thing, here is a screenshot of the only compelling reason to get the game: There, now you don't have to buy it. You're welcome

It should be noted this game is SHORT AS HELL and it will end 5 minutes after it actually gets good. I beat the game in 6 hours 25 minutes the first trip through and I know I was stuck on one puzzle for at least an hour(not because it was hard, but because I'm a dumbass and kept overlooking something.) I'm going to bet this game could be finished in under 2 hours if you knew exactly what to do.
I really liked this game until I beat a really easy boss and the credits started rolling. Definitely don't buy this game, if you gotta play it, RENT IT. There's just not enough content to warrant a purchase.

Wish I'd read your review before I bought it because I agree. Fun while it lasts, but it's over ridiculously quick. I remember spending weeks working on TR1 and 2. This took 2 days of maybe 3, 4 hours each. The graphics are nice, it was good to get back into the TR genre again, but it just wasn't worth it. It's time video game makers figure out that cinematic cutscenes do NOT count toward the length of the game, too. If you take those out I could probably have beaten it in the first day. The only boss that I found remotely hard (sorta) was the guy in Tokyo. And the copy protection sucks. I bought a legal copy, but it takes anywhere from 2 to 20 tries to get into the damn game because it keeps failing to recognize the DVD. I don't pirate stuff, but you've gotta wonder why video game makers are surprised at piracy. Get ripped off enough paying $40 or $50 for crap like this and you might just decide to try before you buy too. |

Well yeah I got it and finished it. It was very cool, just a bit short. Got it done in about 7 hours, but it was fun.
I noticed that there is a whole heap of textures around that change Lara's clothes. How long do you reckon before a nude texture hits???
