I have fond memories of a go-cart track in Wisconsin Dells.

There were varied themes to them.
My favorite one had many sharp curves and we would climb steeply,
to be swallowed by the gigantic wooden Trojan horse.

The track surface would alternate from black top, to wooden slats,
that produced a most satisfying...lubbedy dub sound.

Being so close to the ground gave the impression of a much faster speed.

"Flying Low."

The words time and space, brought back a fond memory.

Peace and joy comrades.

Since I'm parsing some of my automotive stuff in here to help make this longer...not to mention I was driving my car yesterday at the opening day of a brand new track in Millville NJ called New Jersey Motorsports Park on the Thunderbolt track and while I was having a fantastic fun time, the day seemed "Longest" since the hot 90F day, intense solar radiation, and the physical stress of driving on a new unfamilar track was wearing me down by the end of the day. In any case, in spite of all the fantastic Ferrari's, Porsches, and other cool cars and racecars that were there, and probably since I'm an old motorhead who grew up with American muscle cars, strangely enough my absolute favorite car there was a 1964 Pontiac GTO...this is a somewhat famous '64 GTO that was featured as a cover story in Hot Rod magazine a while back, as well as other automotive publications. The young guy who owns it bought it when he was 14 y.o. as a mostly stripped out primered beater, then he drag raced it for a couple years, then got into roadracing, crashed it pretty bad and then decided to rebuild it himself into a hardcore roadracer. So he built all this himself, full tube frame and the works, Pontiac 421 c.i. super-duty motor destroked...what an awesome cool car and one of the fastest cars there this day.

I got more pics but I'll close with a shot of my car...the black one...next to a real nice small block Cobra.

Confession time:

I only know how to drive an 'automatic' vehicle.

I think it was a combination of my dyslexia and a crabby impatient ex,
that steered me clear of trying it again.

I will put this on my list of things to learn.

Nice pics Badnick, thanks.

Thanks, ring. It's never too late to learn...though some things you really don't have a major need to know...like shifting a manual trans if you don't ever have to drive one...or if you have a car with one of the better paddle shifters, such as the Ferraris...a simple flick of the lever and the computer does everything near-perfectly and better than any human...engage the computer controlled electro-hydraulic clutch, perfectly rev match the motor to the road speed in the selected gear, engage the gear, release the clutch...and a few milliseconds later you're happily in your selected ratio.

This is the kind the rent if you want to drive and don't have your own:

This was another cool racecar parked near the kart track:

My two boys and I took a day trip to Ocean City NJ today and on the way we stopped at New Jersey Motorsports Park. A Porsche club was running on the Lightning track and another mixed car group on Thunderbolt...place looks very nice, I'm looking forward to Tuesday.

I never saw so many GT3 Porsches in one place:

I'd like to pick up one of these as a track car...it's a D-sport Racer...from the note on the wing I'm thinking it must be the Socialist Sports Racers Club:

What kind of motors do the rentals have? How many cc's? and where is this track? Around my area I don't know of any go kart tracks, except for lame indoors ones. I live in Westchester county, NY, btw

He was much more than that; an iconoclast with a vision to pen lines so smooth that nearly every european manufacturer were itching for him to draw them something.

I'm sorry I haven't been much around; for the past few hours, I got lost within stylus magazine's site; I definitely find this to be among the higher rung of community-based attunal musings and opinions.

I love it. Gonna bookmark, subsequently slow down, then go out and fetch myself a few albums i have waited far too long for; Neon Bible among them.

I also need to allocate my time to cracing open my studies on la langue française. I'll make the best to take you up on your offer MOAB, mon ami.

(give me a few weeks to structure, though)

I'm not sure on the kart specs. But check this link, they have info and an in-kart video of laps NJMP Karting and it says they go 55mph...and it looked quite fast in person.

Check this link in case any of these NY outdoor kart tracks are near you...I bet there are kart tracks close to you New York Race Tracks

I'll also ask my buddy who is I.T. manager at that new track they're just finishing now in Monticello NY called Monticello Motorsports Park...they may have karts when it's done. He's a major motorhead and would also know what's around that area.

Stylus to Cease Publication rockcritics.com
Quote:
Stylus Magazine, Respected Online Music Publication, Will Fold After Halloween (New York Observer)

This is really unfortunate news. As a reader, I’ve long felt a particular kinship with Stylus. I can’t think of a single other online or newsstand music publication in the last 10 years–I mean an actual publication, not a blog or chat room–that has catered to my own sensibility so well. Not just in the breadth of the music coverage (and no other ‘zine that I’m aware of has anything like the genuine feel for pop music that Stylus has), but in the way they present their material, in their willingness to exclaim for the old as well as for the new, to explore corners of the pop universe otherwise uncharted (i.e., features on album covers, downloading, the art of mastering, etc.). Stylus doesn’t always hit the bulls eye, of course, but even at its most esoteric, it never strikes me as its own little scene–rather, it seems like a wide open space where music writers can try out all sorts of ideas, where offbeat features are encouraged, where there is no real attempt at forcing on the reader a singular “voice” or attitude.

As a sometime writer for Stylus (only on a very few occasions, mind you), I can attest that working for Todd Burns, Stylus’s Ed-in-chief (and William B. Swygart, who handled the what-is-sure-to-be-missed Jukebox) was a genuine pleasure. Todd was one of the most receptive editors I’ve ever pitched to, and his receptiveness to people’s pitches and ideas has obviously shone through in the ‘zine itself, at least at its very best. I hope both Todd and William go on to bigger and better things (and btw, guys: my e-mail hasn’t changed!).

I look forward to seeing Stylus’s “Greatest Hits-style retrospective” in the week ahead, but otherwise… damn, that’s sad.
I was a devoted fan after a few in-depth hours, and once again, I was dismayed by the quick & tragic fact that yet another of my dear penchants of life has died. That makes at least three deaths in the past three days I have been witness to... damn, that's sad.

This is the thread to master the nonsequitur.

Man, I would like to respond, but I have no inkling as to what to say.

New throwaway on Pandora for the Floridian: I just spent at least an hour about two days ago listening to my still in-development 'stream, "Th'Eclectic Esoteric".

It is a new station based upon the artists of I believe, Wu Tang Clan, Atmosphere, and The Roots. I was in the midst of working, but I did enjoy most of what I heard. Would you recommend any other artist seeds to incorporate and escalate the experience of my experimental listening project?
