Favorite veggie; mushrooms... or tomatoes - no wait that's a fruit... or eggplant... or zucchini - or snap peas-- pretty much anything except brocolli... i hate brocolli..

windows are covered with blinds...

Overhead lights of table/floor lamps -- why...

Charlatan 03-07-2006 09:13 AM

I like a good combination of the two...

Overhead lights so I can find something when I am looking for it (my house is dark) and smaller lights to set the mood.

What kind of roof does your dwelling have?

Poppinjay 03-07-2006 09:45 AM

The kind with asphalt shingles.

What was your favorite class in high school?

BigBen 03-07-2006 09:48 AM

There were many EVENTS in high school in each class that were awesome,

But I'll have to say Physics. I had a good teacher and all my friends took it too.

Ever torn a muscle? Which one? How?

Fly 03-07-2006 10:11 AM

blew my shoulder ligaments all to hell my grade 12 year of football........2nd last game.

i never got to play in the final.

3 operations later........all is good now.

car or truck?

Bill O'Rights 03-07-2006 10:29 AM

Truck. I find it to be more versatile to my needs. My wife has the car, and that's what we use when we go someplace as a family. Other than that, I use my truck as my everyday conveyance.

What is the oldest thing in your home? (yourself excluded)

Poppinjay 03-07-2006 10:37 AM

We have a writing desk that has never been officially appraised, but from all the research we've done, we can tell that most of it dates from the late 18th-early 19th century. There have been some additions to stabilize it through the years. We found it in the same barn we found the aforementioned marble table.

Who do you think will die in the next season of The Sopranos?

BigBen 03-07-2006 11:45 AM

I don't know.

I think Paulie and Sil might go, but not by Tony. I'd like to see someone go valiantly.

What was your most memorable Christmas / Birthday gift?

Charlatan 03-07-2006 11:51 AM

The Vespa I gave my wife for Christmas a few years back. Long, long story.

What is your favourite soup?

Poppinjay 03-07-2006 12:10 PM

Crab bisque, Osso Buco.

Where on the net did you like to surf in the late 90's?

fresnelly 03-07-2006 12:29 PM

The first website I really got hooked on back in the day, was Aintitcoolnews.com. I really enjoyed the scoops and candid reports from movie sets. After a couple of years though, I became disenchanted with the crowd there. Too self important, and too demanding. I think they've lost the ability to review a film with open minds and without self-serving expectations.

Have you ever seen something you weren't supposed to, through a neighbour's window?

Charlatan 03-07-2006 12:34 PM

I have. I was walking home one night and looked up to see a naked woman in the lighted window above... It was only a brief flash, but I'm sure I saw it.

Have you ever been to sea?

maleficent 03-07-2006 12:34 PM

I lived in nyc for close to 15 years, and had a telescope for most of that time... YES... I saw plenty... :D

can you keep a secret?

Charlatan 03-07-2006 12:35 PM

Yes, yes I can keep a secret.

Have you ever been to sea?

BigBen 03-07-2006 12:40 PM

No, Cap'n, BUT I'VE BEEN BLOWN ASHORE!!!

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

What is your favorite joke?

Poppinjay 03-07-2006 01:46 PM

My current favorite joke:

President Bush was visiting Brazil on a goodwill trip for their support in the war. At one point, he was asked if he had heard about the deaths today of four Brazilians.

He looked confused for a minute, then said, "how many is a brazillion?"

Did you fantasize about any of your teachers when you were in high school, I mean other than them dying messily?

SirLance 03-07-2006 03:00 PM

We had this English teacher.... oh man, she was hot. I got into Shakespeare to impress her. I never got her, but I've still got Shakespeare!

How did you and your Sig. Other meet?

Poppinjay 03-08-2006 05:34 AM

I ordered her from the catalog.

No, seriously.

Actually we met because her office’s fax machine was in the room next to my office.

If you could eliminate one disease in all its forms, which one would you eliminate?

maleficent 03-08-2006 05:43 AM

Fly 03-08-2006 05:48 AM

pj's to bed or Au natural?

Charlatan 03-08-2006 06:05 AM

In the summer it is au naturel... in the winter it is pjs and lots and lots of blankets...

What's love got to do with?

Poppinjay 03-08-2006 06:25 AM

I suppose to the jaded, the tired, and those who drive only the hard roads through life, love is but a second-hand emotion. Otherwise, it's a good way to write books and songs.

Where do you putter about?

Fly 03-08-2006 06:28 AM

i got 2 acres here..and i try and touch a piece of it all...everyday.

outside is where i putter about.

9 iron or wedge from 100 yards out?

Charlatan 03-08-2006 06:38 AM

I would have to use a 9-iron. I just can't get my wedge that sort of distance yet. I might even be tempted to use an 8-iron but I try to ignore that voice because it usually ends up in the sand beyond the green...

What kind of shoes are you wearing today?

Fly 03-08-2006 06:45 AM

What Olympic event do you think you would be great at?

Lucifer 03-08-2006 07:12 AM

Even though I'm totally afraid of heights, I would like to try ski jumping. Not the acrobatic stuff, just for distance, a la "eddie the eagle"

Are you afraid of heights?

maleficent 03-08-2006 02:08 PM

terrified of them... irrationally afraid of them...

my last apartment, I was completely unable to stand on my kitchen chair to change a lightbulb.. I ratiionally knew that i was only 2 feet off the ground - but when i stood on the chair - i couldn't let go - it felt like i was on a tight rope about to plummet 30 feet to my death...

(but up until my current job, I always worked in high rises, and always had a window .... never bothered me as long as I could hold on to somehting)

Clowns is another irrational phobia of mine - long before the book It came out -- what's your feeling on clowns?

Poppinjay 03-09-2006 05:54 AM

I've never felt a clown. Never really considered them farceurs of interest or terror.

Do you think we'll have another attack similar to 9/11? Where?

BigBen 03-09-2006 07:49 AM

Yes, yes I do.

When 9/11 happened, they attacked a few things, right?
WTC = Economic
Pentagon = Military
Capitol Building = Political

What is missing here, as a terrorist? Two things: Culture and Religion.

Therefore, I think the next attack will be at a Hollywood award show, or the Superbowl, or the World Series. Somewhere the American people identify with their social fabric.

Religion is a tough one. I don't see there being a single "Religious" place in the US, and instead there will have to be several coordinated attacks.

The airline industry took a bad hit, and I think that terrorists are learning how to drive 18-wheelers instead of learning how to fly. You can pack a lot of bad stuff into a 53' trailer. How many trucks are on the road? Get 30 people coordinating stuff in 30 different cities, and you have a bad event.

If you could "Invade" anyplace, where would it be? What would you call your new country?

Charlatan 03-09-2006 07:56 AM

I'd invade a small island in the South Pacific and call it the nation of Charlatan.

Clothing would be optional.

How far would you go to get what you want?

maleficent 03-09-2006 08:01 AM

i don't even have the energy to walk across the hall to get a cup of coffee...

What do you really want right now?

Poppinjay 03-09-2006 08:04 AM

A new job, and a frozen snickers.

What defines quiet desperation?

fresnelly 03-09-2006 08:12 AM

A mime having to steal bread to feed his family.

What's your dream vehicle?

BigBen 03-09-2006 08:13 AM

Red Acura NSX.

How is your health these days?

AVoiceOfReason 03-09-2006 08:15 AM

Quiet desperation is best defined by a parent at the bedside of a critically ill child, not knowing where to turn for answers, or not liking the answers received, while trying not to scream aloud.

What do you know now that you wished you'd known three years ago?

Lucifer 03-09-2006 08:47 AM

what a joke university is.

What song that you liked as a younger person have you recently re-discovered and still like?

Fly 03-09-2006 09:12 AM

Poppinjay 03-09-2006 10:29 AM

Nantucket

Ever swallow the worm?

BigBen 03-09-2006 10:35 AM

Yes, and everything kind of went fuzzy after that.

Good times.

If surrounded by a gang of ninjas, and you are unarmed, what should be your first action?

maleficent 03-09-2006 11:19 AM

Smile and flash my boobs? :D

What are you listening to right now?

Charlatan 03-09-2006 11:22 AM

(sorry I was distracted by Mal's boobs)

Ahem.

I am listening to my co-workers pitch ideas for programming at each other... they are loud.

What is covering your butt right now?

BigBen 03-09-2006 11:23 AM

Listening to:
Money for nothing, by Dire Straits.

Inspired to put it on the playlist from that "First album" thread.

What is covering my butt? A good buddy of mine, who said yesterday "If it fucks up, I'll take the blame. If it works, you get the credit. What do you have to lose?" So I did it. And I am getting the credit.
Nice to have buddies that believe in you, and your work...

Favorite alcohol drink of all time? (Name the brand, if appropriate)

Favorite coffee of all time?

Poppinjay 03-09-2006 11:32 AM

Vodka gimlet

Flavia Hazlenut

Is time on your side?

Plummie 03-09-2006 12:49 PM

Yes I'm only improving with each passing day, like a damn good bottle of bourbon. ;)

If you could invite 5 people to dinner (living or deceased) who would it be?

SirLance 03-09-2006 04:59 PM

Albert Einstein, Oscar Wilde, William Shakespear, Jesus, Alexander the Great.

Why do you think women change their hair color?

777 03-09-2006 09:55 PM

Because they're looking for a color I like (that's my ego talking). Or, because they can :)

What's your earliest memory?

Poppinjay 03-10-2006 05:43 AM

Having my first Coke at the age of three while moving into our house in San Jose.

I wanted more more more more.

What's your favorite stage show?

maleficent 03-10-2006 05:54 AM

Camelot... I have always loved that show

When's the last time you went to the theater - what did you see

Grancey 03-10-2006 09:31 AM

I went to the Alabama Shakespeare Festival last month and saw The Bird Sanctuary with Hayley Mills.

What is your favorite Hitchcock film?

BigBen 03-10-2006 09:39 AM

Vertigo.

Hitchcock is the shiznit.

When you grow up, what do you want to be?

Poppinjay 03-10-2006 09:46 AM

On days like these, I get envious when I see professional gardeners starting their tasks. That, or an NPS ranger at the OBX.

What's the biggest fish you've ever caught?

BigBen 03-10-2006 09:53 AM

13 pound walleye
22 1/2 pound pike
19 pound arctic char

Some real monsters, but mostly I like the fight a 7 pound pike gives you on a 5 pound line...

If you had to recommend colognes, what one would you recommend?

maleficent 03-10-2006 12:32 PM

On men, i like citrissy scents... they tend to smell clean- -I'm not sure i have a specific name..
On me, i like citrus as well, I'm not a flowery type.. I just can't pull that off... but other women, I like soft scents...

on either gender... the smell should not be overpoweing, it should not enter a room before them, and you should be pretty close to being in ther personal space (invited) before you can smell them...

Can we add a twist to this thread, whatever question you ask next, you have to answer yourself, first.

I looooove cinnamon (even though I can't spell it) What is you favorite, non perfume, scent?

Charlatan 03-10-2006 12:40 PM

I love the smell of my wife. She smells familiar and of home.

Do you have any tattoos? (I don't have any but want one).

BigBen 03-10-2006 01:00 PM

I have three Tattoos.

Shamrock on my right shoulderblade, Maple leaf on my left. Heart on my left shoulder. I want more. I think I'll get some more done very soon.

I am a medium rare steak kind of guy. How do you like your steak cooked?

JustJess 03-10-2006 01:06 PM

I like it medium. Pink, but not bloody. I LOVE steak. Maybe I'll have steak tonight... mmmm, steak....

Do you suffer from gas frequently? The last two days I have been amazed at the air my body can produce. :D

Poppinjay 03-10-2006 01:31 PM

When I do, it's amazing. Mostly dairy products bring it on.

Are you going to watch the Sopranos season debut? I am, in fact I now know the entire story line of the first episode (HBO accidently put it on their On Demand screen).

I'm not going to watch, because I've never gotten into the Soprano's. I don't know why not, it's the sort of thing I'd like, I've just never gotten into it.

What is the next movie you plan on seeing?

Grasshopper Green 03-10-2006 04:46 PM

The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada

I hate this time of year as far as movie going goes. I love going to movies, but all the shit movies are released right about now. This looks like a good one to see amidst the crap.

What's for dinner tonight? I haven't decided yet, but I have a feeling it might be cookies.

Charlatan 03-10-2006 04:59 PM

I am having a gin and tonic for dinner tonight... I need to forget this week. I am making pasta for my wife and daughter.

I am watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles... what was the last animated (kids) series you watched?

Poppinjay 03-11-2006 03:45 AM

Spongebob Squarepants

I had a granola bar for breakfast. What are you having?

Lucifer 03-11-2006 04:36 AM

Peanut butter and raspberry jam on english muffins, OJ (with strawberries and bananas) and lots of coffee. Let the weekend begin!

they plowed my street last night (first time since beginning of February). How is your city's road crew doing?

Dragonknight 03-11-2006 05:41 AM

The base where I stay posted bulletins up saying to move our vehicles off the street so that they can re-pave the road on a certian day. Yeah the date came and went, roads still the same. Who knows when it will get done.

So you have a free plane ticket with room and board, where are you going?

777 03-11-2006 10:30 AM

I'll go the London Museum everyday and check out all the artifact the British Empire has collected over the last few hundred years.

What did you do for your last Brithday? The guys and me went out for Boa and Dumplings last night. Had a great time.

Grasshopper Green 03-11-2006 10:34 AM

I had a pretty bad birthday party...really, it was a flop. It was horrible. Did I mention that it sucked?

I'll probably watch a movie at home tonight. What are your plans for this evening?

SirLance 03-11-2006 11:50 AM

Attending John Cleese's one man show.

Do you contribute to any charites? Which ones and why did you pick them.

Grasshopper Green 03-11-2006 08:15 PM

I started giving money to the National Institute of Mental Health after my brother died, in hopes that perhaps they may help one person who otherwise would be in my shoes.

I also give to Childrens Miracle Network regularly. I think it's a good charity, and kids pull on my heartstrings.

Hot or cold? I personally like hot. I know you can put on extra layers, blah blah, but I love wearing just a tank top and shorts.

Gilda 03-11-2006 08:41 PM

Cold. You can cover up with clothes, and there's no need for sunscreen all the time if you have very pale skin.

If you could have tickets to any event, what would it be and why?

Gilda, you forgot to answer your own question.

That's a tough one... My firm is throwing a convention/seminar in San Diego in April. And the Real Estate Wealth Expo (Trump Expo) in Los Angeles in on the same weekend! Los Angeles or San Diego? Choices.

What's your snack food of choice? If there's any nuts, or trail mix near me, it won't be there for long. That's for sure.

Dragonknight 03-12-2006 03:44 AM

UMMM trail mix, yeah I could devour a pound or so of it for sure.

What is the first thing you noticed about your SO? I noticed that my wife is gorgeous.

Poppinjay 03-12-2006 04:16 AM

How can that be asnwered any other way? Ditto. Whenever I put up her picture in a new workplace, female cow-orkers will see it and remark with great surprise, "she's PRETTY!"

What? Am I some kind of elephant man that I can't have a beautiful SO?

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. What do you do differently starting today? I'm thinking I need to be more frugal.

Fly 03-12-2006 08:26 AM

i wouldn't change a fuckin' thing.

things are all good just how it is.

hard taco shells or soft taco shells?

Lucifer 03-12-2006 08:56 AM

Soft. The hard shells crumble too easily.

You have to move cross country. Do you hire professionals to move you (less hassle but more expensive) or rent a U-Haul and do it yourself (more hassle, but less expensive)?

maleficent 03-12-2006 09:00 AM

hire someone... my time and aggravation are worth something... plus my back is in such bad shape - shlepping wouldn't be good.

What's the last thing that you cooked?

I made lamb meatballs with cumin and a nice yogurt and mind dipping sauce - quite tasty...

Grasshopper Green 03-12-2006 09:24 AM

I made scrambled eggs for breakfast. The last thing that took more than a few minutes though, were some enchiladas. Mmmm...enchiladas.

Only in our tea room/shrine, where we use it as a part of the tea ceremony or prayer. Outside of there, my paranoid nature regarding fire hazards will not allow open flames anywhere in our home.

What luxury that you regularly indulge in would you find it most difficult to part with? I'm not sure I'd be able to cope with giving up recreational reading.

fresnelly 03-12-2006 01:05 PM

Sweet/salty, fattening foods. This is a more important struggle for me, now that I'm in my 30's.

What's your mildest sexual fantasy? I'd like to make sweet, sweet love to a Land's End or L.L Bean model. :D

Hmmm. Assuming that this means something I'd like to do, but never have, I'd have to say sex in an elevator.

If you could spend one day with anyone you like that you haven't had the chance to spend time with, who would it be, and what would you want to do? I'd want to take my youngest sister, Molly, to Disneyland.

Gilda

AVoiceOfReason 03-13-2006 09:14 AM

My friend Allan from New York City. He and I used to get to see each other when he'd come to his mother-in-law's house in Tulsa, but he divorced that wife, so he doesn't come down this way anymore. If we met in NYC, we'd hit a museum or two, and a record store or two, and just generally hang out.

The buffet says "All You Can Eat." What do you want on it? Me, I like crab legs and shrimp on mine.

maleficent 03-13-2006 09:23 AM

If the crab legs are actual crab legs, and the shrimp is properly cooked, you will have to fight me for it - -however, eggs benedict if it's brunch, might be a nice change of pace... and bloody mary's -- lots of bloody marys... :) There used to be a brunch at the UN Plaza hotel in NYC - some chain took it over in recent years, but their brunch used to have awesome sushi and some of the best caviar ever... mmmm ....mmmmm... good..

I have an incredibly stiff muscle in my right shoulder, so much that it hurts to move my head... .. that I think I threw out my left shoulder trying to get the ben gay cream in the right spot - i missed.. so now i'm in double pain... What ache or pain do you have today?

Charlatan 03-13-2006 09:29 AM

Mal, you need to get some guy to come over to your place and work the kinks out of your shoulder...

I have some minor aches and brusing from Kendo this weekend. I hadn't been in two weeks and my muscles (two days later) are complaining.

My wife and kids have March Break this week. I have to work while they hang out. Are you doing anything for March Break? If not, what was the last thing you did for March Break?

TivaBella 03-13-2006 07:03 PM

I don't have kids so March Break is nothing unusual. However I worked in a Library last March, so mostly I cringed with fear. Have you ever been near a library in March Break? Try it sometime. You too will be terrorized.

Where did you go on your last vacation? I was in Miami last week for the first time. It won't be the last!

Gilda 03-13-2006 07:29 PM

We went to Universal Orlando for a week, stayed in the Portofino Bay hotel, and got to skip to the head of the line at all the best rides, and walked barefoot on the beach at the end of the day.

If you could climb into a story and live it from the POV of one of the characters, what story would it be, and what character would you live it as?

I'd want to be Golden Age Black Canary. She was strong, independent, and tended to get captured and tied up a lot.

Gilda

JumpinJesus 03-13-2006 08:50 PM

I would crawl into The Little Prince because I'd love to have a feeling of such wondrous naive wisdom. I can't think of another protagonist whose innocence lends to such an enlightened state of mind as his.

When did you truly realize that the planet on which we live was - cosmologically speaking - a fairly insignificant rock in the universe and how did it make you feel?

for me, it was when I was stargazing one summer night in our backyard when I was around 14. I remember looking up at the sky and seeing all the stars and it was like an epiphany. It both frightened and fascinated me at the same moment. Frightened that my egocentric world was fairly insignificant and fascinated that the universe was so expansive.

6th grade field trip to the planetarium at UNC. That was the first time I ever got the third rock from the sun feeling. To this day, one of my most calming meditative thoughts is to imagine that I'm an infinitely fast ion, and I can go from galaxy to galaxy in a matter of minutes to explore other worlds.

I use whatever the wife puts in the 'fridge. It's Shedd Spread most of the time, which I think is margarine, but I'm not sure.

It's getting near tax-time, and I'm still not motivated to look at my stuff. Do you look forward to getting a tax refund check each year? I get mad if I have a refund coming, because it means I overpaid the goverment and they don't give me any interest on my money.

I don't really care since the government already owns my ass, but it is nice to get a lump of money.

Which is the better of the two, Subway or Quizno's? What's your favorite place to get a sub?

Charlatan 03-15-2006 09:41 AM

I haven't had a sub in years. I think the last one I had was at a Subway but my favourite Sub is the roast beef sub (with extra cheese and mustard) from Mr. Sub.

I have a craving for a hamburger. What would hit the spot with you right now?

Poppinjay 03-15-2006 09:55 AM

Mac and cheese, which I am eating and it is hitting the spot nicely. I'll get some new arteries at Target after work.

Have you ever had a summer time "burnin' in love with a blue jean girl" experience? Mine was named Amy, it was 1985.

Charlatan 03-15-2006 09:59 AM

Yes I have... Her name was Maggie.

My wife and son just called me from the CN Tower. What's the tallest building you've ever been in? Was it impressive?

Poppinjay 03-15-2006 10:06 AM

John Hancock building, I was unimpressed because it was all glassed off at the top. That, and Chicago is really flat except for the small downtown cluster of skyscrapers.

The Empire State Building, now that some ballsy tallness. They let you go outside, and when I went there at the age of 21, there wasn't even much to keep you from jumping off.

City life, or backwoods country road? I'd go with the road, depending on where it leads.

SSJTWIZTA 03-15-2006 10:20 AM

City Life.

I've lived in the country for far too long, a little peace & quiet is great...but to much is to much.

If you somehow ran across a time machine, and only had a one way ticket so to speak. would you stay in the present or travel to someplace in the future/past and stay forever? if you would, what year/location would you travel to?

fresnelly 03-17-2006 11:07 AM

I'd have to say the past. As much as I'd like to see the future, it would be frustrating to see it, but not be able to report back to the present, in order to stave off disaster or share beneficial knowledge. By going back in time, I could do exactly that.

When would I travel to? The end of the year 2000 to prevent the accidental death of a loved one, and other horrible events.

What past historical fashion would you like to see back in style? I say: Enough of the 80's, bring back the late 1940's!

Poppinjay 03-17-2006 11:19 AM

I'd want to bring back the 20's. The days of F. Scott, Babbit. When what is today considered a mansion was simply a bungalow.

Who do you think the President of the US will be come 2009? I'm guessing McCain.

Charlatan 03-17-2006 11:30 AM

I don't think it is going to be anyone that we are even considering right now. It will be a dark horse.

(by the way, I want to see the fashions of the 30s come back in style).

I ate fried chicken today. When was the last time you ate fried chicken?
