You know, I had to google Campbellville, as I had heard of it but had no idea where it was.

No, this isn't Campbellville, although you are close on the mill aspect.

Nope, not in NB.

Yes, it is a quiet river (at this location, but not at all locations).

But look closely at the bridge and there is something that makes it very unique.

For some reason this looks like the bridge they showed on a documentary I watched on CBC a couple of years ago, it was about Natives who went to the US to work on the High Steel, can't for the life of me remember where it was though.

I don't know about high steel and what not, I don't think this is the bridge.

Again, look at the bridge, there's something unique about it.....

he he

Not that will tell you where it is, but it will definitely narrow it down.

looks like a swing bridge in the middle... so the river has to be navigable by something that has height but not much width.

Does that centre span raise/lower or swivel to allow boats to pass by?

Very good.

It is a swing bridge. The centre span USED TO rotate to allow small boats to pass. I don't think it's moved in years. It used to work by putting a big bar in the gear mechanism, then the guy litterally ran around in circles to rotate it.

It is also a railway bridge, it is active track, and it is not in BC or any other western province for that matter (narrows it down)

Nope, not the Ottawa River.

And not in Ontario.

I will give you a clue......

It is active railway track.

The line used to be owned by the Canadian Pacific Railway, however, CPR has sold it off to a Shortline.

Glad I'm not the only one who was searching different swing bridges in the provinces, I came up with nothing as well, this is a tricky one that's for sure.

It is in Quebec though. It's very beautiful countryside.

And it used to be owned by CPR.

Hint hint, there is only 1 track in Quebec that used to be owned by CPR (as far as I know.)

well... there's an obvious river at Trois Riviers, but Google maps doesn't name it. I'll check for swing bridges at trois riviers and see if I get a hit.

*edit: nope, i'll look for other rivers.

I'm gonna say the rail line is now owned by Genesee Rail-One, as for the river is it Saint-Maurice?

Getting closer.

The track is owned by Genesse Wyoming, and the operating company is called, "The Quebec Gatineau Railway"

It's not the St. Maurice River though

La Maurice features some beauty bridges though...

Occupational hazard - I design them for a living.

What can I say.

You can see my handywork at Davenport Road north of Dupont right now.

or Leaside over DVP.

or very soon - Bathurst north of Dupont - soon to be lowering the road by 400 mm, new street car tracks and a completely rehabilitated bridge.

And lots more......

okay, let's try the ottawa river. I know that the QGR traverses the Ottawa, another river near Trois Rivieres that google maps leaves nameless. But I think the Ottawa actually has boat traffic that would merit a swing bridge.

Still can't find anything on google tho

Nope, it's not the ottawa River, and it's not La Maurice (at Trois Rivieres)

The above picture is the bridge over the Ottawa River taken by moi from the Hull side at Lachute 119.25

The above picture is the bridge over La Maurice in Trois Rivieres, also taken by moi at Trois Rivieres Mile 83.5

Clue...

This bridge is on the Trois Rivieres sub that runs from Laval to Quebec City.

In fact, it's between Trois Rivieres and Quebec City....

The above photo shows the centre pier of the bridge in question on which the centre span rotates. Quite massive acutally and was built in the 1860's I believe, though the superstructure was changed out at one time or another.

Another view of the bridge in question....

is it this bridge? by the arrow. Friggin maps online don't show any decent detail, and the searches don't bring up any more. I don't even know the name of this river (not on maps) but it is north of TR on the way to QC.

Yep, you're there. The river has a name for sure. It's popular with sportsmen and kayakers. It empties into the St. Lawrence.

It's a well known river, not some babbling brook. If you google in the name of the river, you get tons of hits and it's well known as a tourist area, though, not as well known as La Maurice.

But you need that name of that river.

You're almost there though (albeit with about 20 clues.)

GO HERE for the final damn clue I am going to give you all....

You'd think that there could be a free detailed map with river names for Quebec somewhere on the internet eh? Especially if you search on angling, kayaking rivers quebec etc....

Apparantly my search abilities are not sufficient/patient enough. I will have to actually open a hard copy atlas at home to determine the name of this river.

Sticky cuts Leto's grass and takes it.

Yes, it is the Batiscan River Bridge at Mile 102.50 of the Trois Rivieres sub belonging to the Quebec Gatineau Railway, former CPR track.

Just goes to show you, not everything in the world is catalogued on the internet.
