Nope, someone a lot older than that. Is yours for Ned Hanlon?

Edit: Found it! At Hanlon's Point (duh) on Toronto Island.

Quote:
Edward "Ned" Hanlan, 1855 - 1908
Ned Hanlan learned to row at an early age: he crossed Toronto Harbour daily from his home on Toronto Island to reach George Street Public School on the mainland. At 5'8" and 155 pounds he became a sporting legend in 1879 when he defeated the 6' 200 lb English champion, William Elliott, by an astonishing eleven lengths. From 1876 to 1886 he rowed all over the world and lost only six of 300 races. Over half a million dollars were bet on him in England in 1880 against the reigning world champion, Australian Edward Trickett. But whenever Hanlan's lead increased he would stop to take a drink of water and wave to the crowd. Winning by over seven seconds, Hanlan became world champion and London, Toronto and New York went wild. Still known as probably the greatest sculler of all time, there is a statue of Hanlan in Toronto Harbour and the Western end of Toronto Island is still called Hanlan's point.
Also home to a nudie beach.

Game on! Ned Hanlan it is...

(as an aside, when I did the google for Ned Hanlan these were the only pics of the statue I could find. They are on the blog site of a friend of mine. I didn't know he had these pictures.)

That's a house on Coxwell, north of Dundas. It's a "Space by Rohan" http://www3.sympatico.ca/spacesbyrohan/home.html

His other house/space is on College at Landsdown. I want to like the design, but I'm not so sure. At least it's a bit of colour on a pretty drab stretch.

cool, now i know the name of that house, which I pass by almost daily. I'll have to visit the other one out west (college * landsdown). There's also a that cluster of tilted green cubes close by the Gardiner, or were they torn down recently?

I used to pass the college house every day and it has a small "Spaces by Rohan" sign on it, and our vet is near the Coxwell house. I wonder what the neighbours think?

I love the house on Coxwell and like the one on College. I was reading in uTOpia: Towards a New Toronto that he is building another house somewhere in a back alley off Jones.

The house in the picture cost, $50,000 for the land and $138,000 to build. The house on College was cheaper at $17,000 for the land and only $80,000 to build. The key is finding infill plots upon which nobody wants to build (the Coxwell one is located in a ravine and the College on was a pie shaped wedge).

Since you mentioned it, there is a funky infill home in the alley west of Jones between Dundas and Gerrard. I'm not sure it's Rohan's though. I'll have to take a closer look.

You're right, it isn't his. I just checked and it was made by another company, Duckworth-Pilkington. It is a sustainable home.

Here's an article about it: http://www.cdnarchitect.com/issues/I...RType=&btac=no

Colborne Lodge it is. Game on!

Quote:
Colborne Lodge is the 19th century home of High Park founders, John and Jemima Howard. In 1873, the Howards deeded their 165 acre country property to the City of Toronto to be used as a public park. This deed included an agreement that the park remain 'for the free use, benefit and enjoyment of the citizens of the City of Toronto for Ever: and to be called and designated at all times hereafter "High Park"'. In 1876 and 1930, the City purchased properties to the east and west of the original Howard property, bringing the park to its current size of 399 acres.

Now a museum, the Lodge contains many original furnishings, artifacts, and some of Howard's watercolours of early Toronto. Colborne Lodge conducts a wide variety of workshops, educational programs and community events for all ages on the lives of the Howards and their legacy of High Park.

K: Here is a pic I took a few years back. Where is it/what is the feature in the background? I have edited the feature in the foreground to preserve my wife's privacy...

I was going to say Craigellachie, but I'm pretty sure that's been done. And I was just going to say that because of the train in the valley.

So I'll guess the tunnel mountain train loop.
