Is the cemetary signifigant, like the one on Grosse Isle?
|
I would say a condo.
Is this in mississauga somewhere? |
It is a university residence.
The university rents the plaes out to the public during the summer. I stayed there when I visited the city for a wedding. The building has some significance in the city that it is in. |
nothing? Nobody?
|
ummm.. i would have said Gage residence at UBC, but there is no chruch nearby, and the architecture is all wrong.
any more clues? why is the church significant? |
The churce itself is not significant. I just tried to find a pic with more that just the building in it so that you would have a shot.
It is the building that has some significance to the city. If I mention what it is it will probably give it away. Hint: It is in a provincial capital |
ok. Here's my guess:
this is Fenwick Place in Halifax. It is a student residence for Dalhousie University. It's the tallest building in Halifax and it was never completed by the developer. the top two floors are supposed to have a swimming pool, but the developers decided that it was too expensive an option. But that's just a guess... |
You got it Leto

What Torontonian couldn't figure this out? It's the new ROM Crystal.
New image loading... ... ... ... |
I absolutely hate that building, but I know people who rave about it.
|
Game on Aberkok, here are some outside shots. There were tours yesterday before the so called "crystal" was filled with the museum exhibits. I think that it's a good thing that the building is controversial. At least it states that it has a personality, and departs from the blandness that is pervasive in our architecture. remember that the Eiffel tower was similarly controversial. Now it is iconic.

Is there a new picture forthcoming Aberkok?
|
ya, c'mon Aberkok... we may have to jump in...
|
The one angle where you an see the old part looks kinda dumb but that last shot its cool looking, looks like the building is falling over.
|
OK folks, I declare the game open. Someone post a picture and lets get back at it.
Game on to whoever reacts first. |
|
go for it!
|
hagatha, need to repost your pic.

They DESTROYED the ROM and the decision makers on that should be shot. Total "look at me" architecture with no thought, no creativity, no skill. You want to build a piece of shit like that - build it out in Downsview somewhere. It's offensive to look at. Libenskind must be laughing his ass off that the fools in Toronto bought into it. Quote:

I'm so sorry for the disruption guys... it won't happen again and I'm glad you went on without me. Honestly, I just don't have anywhere left that I've been in the country that I haven't posted... that was part of the problem.

Tiberius takes it.

I feel a little that way as well, er eill just have to be more specific with the places we pic and maybe give a hint along with the pic. |

You mean we had to have been there??? Am I going to be disqualified, I haven't been to half the places I posted. :paranoid: |
I generally post in places I've been as well. But not always...
|
I don't see any problem with posting photos from where you haven't been. It diversifies the game and helps keep it going. We all learn a little too.
|
I agree. I've tried to post my own pics, or at least pics of where I was. But sometimes, well.... you just gotta get creative.

what I really don't like about the structure is that the "front door" is almost impossible to locate. The old front door on Queen's Park Circle was almost majestic and welcomed you to enter the building while at the same time, humbling all who approached. This newly configured entrance is hidden at the base of the crystal whith no heraldic conventions. Even the doors themselves are somewhat cryptic, with handles that have to be labled to be found. Otherwise, I like the structure itself, even the way that it does the "Fortress of Solitude" thing with the old ROM, but that may just be my geology background. What I like the most is the controversy that it has engendered! |
Damn it Jim, you need to post a pic!

give me a sec, I have the perfect one....taken by yours truly. I came upon it in a recent business trip and I was shocked and thought, boy, this'd be good for the TFP. http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5...4/P6080018.jpg |
My first thought is Winnipeg, Manitoba.
|
ya, I was thinking Manitoba as well... about time to flex my google finger...
|
That's in Ontario... in the north.
Earlton, Ontario |
Earlton, Ontario
**Edit: Damn Charlie, you are one minute faster. |
whoa! Charlie's back!
|
What's an Earlton?

I just drove by it last week and almost smashed into the truck in front of me. It's an antanomically correct buffalo as well. Here's another shot I took http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c5...4/P6080019.jpg |
I think that Charlaton's got about half a day before somebody else ponies up with a pic....

sorry I forgot I was playing, I'm a bit rusty.
I knew the buffalo one because my wife's relatives are loggers in northern ontario and I've seen a picture of them in front of it. I admit I had to google the name of the place but I knew it was in the north near New Lisgard and Kirkland Lake. |
