Bring on the obscure storefront Sticky!

Sticky 09-19-2006 06:36 AM

Here you go, a not so obscure storefront.
This is a really easy one so you will have to be really specific.

Here is a bigger version from a little different angle

Sticky 09-20-2006 07:03 AM

nope

Let me know if it is too hard or if people are just not playing
(actually if people are not playing then they won't see this and they won't be able to tell me).

Daval 09-20-2006 07:57 AM

any chance of a full size picture? My screen is too damn small to see these small ones :P

Sticky 09-20-2006 08:27 AM

fresnelly 09-20-2006 10:22 AM

Is it some (in)famous Montreal Strip club?

aberkok 09-20-2006 10:23 AM

Supersexe!!! ...in Montreal... St. Catharine St. (anyone growing up in or around Montreal knows thats where your mom works)

Where is this?

Sticky 09-20-2006 10:54 AM

Halifax, Nova Scotia

aberkok 09-20-2006 03:33 PM

But of course....

Game on, Sticky!!

Sticky 09-21-2006 04:56 AM

OK,

Front view
http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/6873/example1em8.jpg

And side view
http://img154.imageshack.us/img154/1336/example2wh3.jpg

I was going to give only the front view but I though it was too hard.

Sticky 09-22-2006 07:35 AM

Maybe some help is needed?

Here are some other angles:

The top view of the lawn and the statue on the lawn.
http://img133.imageshack.us/img133/977/statwindgt8.jpg

A close up of the statue
http://img239.imageshack.us/img239/8649/statuelq6.jpg

I will give you guys another try.

fresnelly 09-22-2006 08:40 AM

That statue looks to me like Emily Carr, but this house is neither her childhood home or the Emily Carr Institute. Is that her?

Sticky 09-22-2006 08:59 AM

hint the statue is not Emily Carr.

Just kidding, the hint is that the statue is a man.

Sticky 09-25-2006 04:52 AM

Alright, the person the statue is of is also a doctor.

Leto 09-25-2006 07:03 AM

this I believe, is the Dr Frederick Banting house in London Ontario.

Canadian Dr's Frederick Banting and Charles Best were credited with discovering Insulin.

(thanks for the hint, it had to be Bethune, Best or Banting.... )

additional edit: i found a good descriptive link on this site:

http://www.diabetes.ca/Section_About/bantingIndex.asp

with a brief excerpt:

Banting House National Historic Site celebrates not only a great Canadian discovery, but the life and career of a truly great Canadian - Sir Frederick Grant Banting (1891-1941).

At Banting House National Historic Site you can step back into history to experience one of the great moments of medical science in the twentieth century - the discovery of insulin - a moment that signified new hope for diabetes sufferers the world over.

Okay, Sticky, since I think I've nailed this, I will post the next pic:

The under side of.... ????

Daval 09-25-2006 07:19 AM

Would that be a lift lock in the Trent Severn Waterway? Possibly in the Peterborough area?

Leto 09-25-2006 07:41 AM

i think that you are close enought to keep this thread moving. It is indeed the underside of the Peterborough Liftlock on the Trent-Severn.

Game on Daval!

(here is the shot from above, these were taken in July)

This one I expect to be guessed within 5 minutes, it should be super easy :)

aberkok 09-25-2006 10:23 AM

Is that the Madison? (Madison Ave., Toronto)

Daval 09-25-2006 10:33 AM

It is indeed. Game on Aberkok

Leto 09-26-2006 04:18 AM

Ahh, I've heard of the Madison. Isn't it a UofT hangout?

Daval 09-26-2006 04:46 AM

it is indeed, right on the corner of Madison and Bloor. Right in the heart of Fraternity Row. I love the place.

aberkok 09-26-2006 06:57 AM

Alrighty then...
http://i24.photobucket.com/albums/c1...Canadanext.jpg

Daval 09-26-2006 07:12 AM

that would be the bloor viaduct. the suicide barrier is the easy giveaway.

In the event that I am correct, I forfeit my turn - game on to whoever wants a turn to post a pic.

aberkok 09-26-2006 07:56 AM

Dang it! I gotta travel more. Game on whoever!!

splck 09-26-2006 09:30 AM

I'll jump...

Game on whoever, someone post a new one.

Sticky 09-26-2006 11:40 AM

http://img161.imageshack.us/img161/4989/example1qy1.jpg

Leto 09-26-2006 12:56 PM

OMG!!! it's the topside of a bridge.....

oh wait it a minute, I was too fast. It's the first topside/underside bridge picture.

Sticky 09-28-2006 08:53 AM

Is it too hard or is their just no action on this therad?

fresnelly 09-28-2006 09:02 AM

Yeah, it's probably time for a hint. :)

Daval 09-28-2006 09:39 AM

I just thought I'd give the rest of you a chance :) I have no clue where that is though.

Sticky 09-28-2006 09:56 AM

The hint is: Montreal.

Daval 09-28-2006 10:04 AM

jacqes cartier bridge?

Sticky 09-28-2006 10:20 AM

No, not the Jacques Cartier

Daval 09-28-2006 10:31 AM

hmm...hows about the Mercier bridge? Or Champlain bridge.

I'm trying really hard not to google it.

Sticky 09-28-2006 11:23 AM

Google it man, it is more fun that way.

Not the Mercier or the Champlain, but good tries for no googling.

Take not of the interesting structure (or setup) of the bridge.
