it is weird that a rock would have those funny digitized rings on them.
:)

fresnelly 04-05-2006 06:05 AM

Got it! Page 26 of a GIS for "Petroglyph" phew.

The St. Victor Petroglyphs, just south of the town of St. Victor in Saskatchewan.

http://collections.ic.gc.ca/petroglyphes/indexe.htm

Bossnass 04-05-2006 06:15 AM

Indeed. Game on fresnelly.

I was actually searching for an image of something else in the area and was amazed to find out that these petroglyphs could be found online. I had grandparents who lived in Assinaboia, Saskatchewan and this it one of the locations that they took me about 18-20 years ago. At the time, you had to open a barb wire fence to acccess the two-rut road. There was a plywood sign asking people not to camp overnight and to not leave garbage.

I believe there is another site, about a 3 minute drive away over rough terrain. I'm saddended to think that it may have been lost forever. It was hard to find then, and the person who did know the location can't walk anymore.

Incidently, as I started looking for good images of this location, apparently no one can agree on who carved these when. Sometime after the last ice age, sometime before about 200 years ago.

fresnelly 04-05-2006 06:29 AM

Okay, this might be a tough one. It's definitely not in Toronto and I'm proud to say, I took this myself:

Looks like the Trans-Canada Pipeline.
Must be somewhere near Calgary.

fresnelly 04-05-2006 07:11 AM

In Alberta, but this pipe carries water.

Sticky 04-05-2006 07:51 AM

Red Deer?
...

fresnelly 04-05-2006 08:08 AM

Farther South

Leto 04-05-2006 09:08 AM

love that country side. Reminds me of treeplanting days...

Sticky 04-05-2006 10:44 AM

Banff Nationa Park?

fresnelly 04-05-2006 10:53 AM

Definitely warmer, but not in Banff NP.

Sticky 04-05-2006 11:04 AM

Just another guess, Lacier Nation Park?

fresnelly 04-05-2006 11:07 AM

Closer to Banff
Hint: It feeds a nearby town

Sticky 04-05-2006 11:25 AM

Canmore?
Another guess.

fresnelly 04-05-2006 11:35 AM

Canmore it is

This runs down into the town from the Spray Lakes Resevoir, nestled in the pass between the east end of Mt. Rundle and Ha Ling Peak. There's a great, not too hard, hike up from the Canmore Nordic Centre.

They filmed the plane crash scene for the movie The Edge, starring Anthony Hopkins and Alec Baldwin, in the resevoir.

Game on Sticky!

Sticky 04-05-2006 01:07 PM

I never would have got that without the help. Thanks.

OK, I have been here many times.

Where am I?

Scorps 04-05-2006 06:20 PM

Montreal?

But that is a wild guess.

EDIT: are all those roads wreaked?

Bossnass 04-05-2006 06:52 PM

I'm not sure they are roads. I can't quite tell what I'm looking at, not sure of the scale either. Reminds me a aggregate stockpile location/trainyard for a concrete company. A mine maybe.

Charlatan 04-05-2006 11:27 PM

looks like log chutes...

Sticky 04-06-2006 05:06 AM

You all (except Charlatan) have the right idea.
It is Montreal.

I am looking for a more specific answer as this place is well known. I will accept answers that are fairly close to the actual answer.

To get an idea of the scale...if you look at the top of the picture you can see buildings.

Hint: This picture was taken in 1966 (not by me).

Charlatan 04-06-2006 05:48 AM

AUTOROUTE METROPOLITAINE
Autoroute Metropolitaine - where it meets Avenue Souligny right near the Hopital Louis H Lafontaine...

The Met.

Je pense...

Sticky 04-06-2006 06:11 AM

Non, tu n'est pas correct.

You really have the right idea though.

Charlatan 04-06-2006 06:15 AM

Merde........

Sticky 04-06-2006 06:39 AM

Look for another big interchange similar to the one that you mentioned.

Scorps 04-06-2006 11:25 AM

I saw that is past weekend but I was drunk and can;t remember what it was called.someone told me.....Gah!!

cellophanedeity 04-06-2006 07:41 PM

"Highway 20, Turcot Interchange and Highway 13, Montreal"

I cheated by googling it. Does it still count? Am I even right?

I think it is: I found the image: http://bilan.usherbrooke.ca/bilan/pa...otos/3054.html

Sticky 04-07-2006 06:23 AM

cellophanedeity, that is close enaough for me and I certainly don't care if you googled it.

It is the Turcot Interchange but is is actually the crossings of highway 20 and highway 15 (which to the right of where the picture begins is the Decarie Expressway).

The grounds in the top right of the image are the Turcot Yards (rail yards).

cellophanedeity 04-07-2006 07:06 AM

Trying to think of places I've been, here's one that is actually pretty, and quite recognizable!

Kincardine, Ontario

so what's the deal with the interchange? is it under construction? or is it being demolished? The bottom of the picture looks like a dead end ramp.

The picture above was a mid contruction pic from the late 60's.

Here is a more recent pic from a different angle:

the fish tug behind the schooner is a dead giveaway for the Great Lakes.

cellophanedeity 04-09-2006 08:01 AM

Definitely Kincardine! sorry for the wait!

Lucifer 04-09-2006 08:04 AM

It's a big P.O.S. nowadays.

Fall down concrete work in fact.

Makes the Gardiner look like a show piece.

Leto 04-09-2006 09:33 AM

Funky sculpture (?) there Lucifer... where is it? (hahaha)

JTK - why is the intersection there in such bad shape?

**edit:

I justlooked at that pic again Lucifer, and that's when it hit me that it is a breaching whale! far out...

TivaBella 04-09-2006 01:39 PM

South Dildo, NFLD

Lucifer 04-09-2006 01:42 PM

TivaBella 04-09-2006 02:10 PM
