Yeah, the thing really is massive when I first saw it. I feel bad for the railroad conductor that has to ride over that thing

Just outside of town, near Radium Hot Springs? I totaly recoginze the stone roadside barrier and the pass through the rock, and I think it is on the north side, coming into town from the kootney pass. It could be south of the hot springs, right before invermere though.

ok then, I'll post one myself now that I'm back. I'm embarrased that I have virtually no local digital images, so I'm stuck with non-albertan pictures to post.

yep. I was faced with the choice of grabbing a bite to eat and potentially missing the ferry. I took a picture and ate from the cafe on the boat.

wow. you should have had some chowder and mussels from the Crabby Shack. without a doubt, the tastiest, and cheapest food we had while on the Island. Cora's was a close second (and there's a Cora's in Toronto too now)

When I saw your pic, I just had to show mine... my kids faces have been cropped in accordance to the Forum rules, but they are fans of Sponge Bob and so this place was a natural!

I've actually worked in Hamilton a few times and my brother went to McMaster, so I'm pretty familiar.

Anywho...

That would be the Museum of Steam and Technology on Woodward Avenue, the former pumping station for the City of Hamilton's water supply.

Here's a slightly more challanging one.

Taken by yours truly whilst suspended just outside the outriggers of the bridge.

Give me the name of the bridge and what city.

Very good.

Too easy again.

It was built in 10 months and was under budget if you can imagine that.

They worked round the clock and brought in all the steel by rail.

The bride steel was fabricated by the late great "Canadian Bridge Company" of Walkerville Ontario.

Here is a link to a bit of fascinating history on the bridge.

A few interesting photos from the past...

Note, the bridge is well over 100' in the air, and I don't see any fall arrest harness or tie off for that matter on this guy. This photo was taken in the late 60's when the bridge was widened.

Thanks for the neat vintage photos of the Leaside, JTK. How did you get them?

Also, I like that in the Commerce Court photo, it appears that we're not supposed to notice the elephant making a dash across the background.

I agree, great pictures of the bridge. This is a bridge thet I use almost daily. It is quite impressive, and the repair work seems tohave completed. I noticed that the handrail has a new design on it now.

The photos came to me by way of my work in rehabilitating the bridge. I have a few more if you want to see them.

What amazes me is that it was built in 10 MONTHS, under budget.

And trust me, the repair work is not done. In fact, it's about ready to start up again next week. Look out for more concrete barriers for at least another year. The parapet walls and railings were designed to match the originals.
