Game on Fresnelly...
I love the Guild Inn. My wife and I had a very important picnic there when we were first dating and later, stayed there for an anniversary (the hotel was a real dump). Sadly, they closed the place down in 2001 and are tearing it down. The gardens and the cool bit of Toronto acrhitectural past are still there and being maintained. They have been talking about building a new hotel/spa on the sight as well as a dock at the water's edge and a funicular to bring passangers up to the gardens... that would be nice.

That is the wacky shop at Logan and Gerrard (right across the road from the Beers Store that inspired this thread).
Two blocks from my house. The guy who owns this also used to own a house at Simpson and Broadview... ghastly (even more than the last crazy house you posted). It has since been sold and renovated.

Scarborough Civic Centre!
I was there for the opening by the Queen. Our public school band (John Buchan Sr PS) played for her. Btw, see the sign on the crazy store that says: 'sober drivers Puck much better' ? for a while, when he first painted it, the P in Puck was an F. He must have been forced to change it. Prior to the current signage, there was similar stuff that really put the boots to the politcal figures of the mid '90's. in the same vein.

Game on Leto... I wasn't there for the actual opening but I was there many times right after: skating, summer dnaces, looking at the fish, checking out Register, etc... and going to the Town Centre.

Between the CN Tower and the Skydome. On Blue Jays Way, west of the SkyDome.
I think its just called the Chinese Rail Monument. I've never been, but a doctor who my wife knows had a "thistlewood" design built for them in Canmore. I saw a portfolio type brochure when we stopped by there in November. I recognized the structure right away, then had to find the company online. Last edited by Bossnass; 02-08-2006 at 05:08 PM.. |

The location isn't exact but it's close enough (it's on the other side of the Skydome from the CN Tower).
Game on!!

damned if i know. It was hard enough getting the location!
** edit: okay, a quick google yielded this land mark: http://gsc.nrcan.gc.ca/urbgeo/vanrock/chief_e.php The Chief: Pillar of Granite The great grey cliffs of Stawamus Chief Mountain, locally known as "the Chief", are famous landmarks in the Squamish area. Rock climbers from around the world test their abilities on its vertical granite walls. Granitic rocks are ancient pools of melted rock that crystallized to rock kilometres below the surface. Tremendous uplift of the land coupled with continuous erosion over millions of years has brought these deeply buried rocks to the surface. Could that possibly be it?

You got it...the Chief is a great place to stop while driving hwy 99. Climbers are little specks on the granite.
Pictures don't do it justice. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stawamus_Chief

To carry on the theme of natural landmarks, here's a beauty that I took while on a tree planting adventure:

Ouimet Canyon?
Edit: Definately. In fact I have damn near the same photo, from when I was there in August. From Wikipedia, about the legend of the canyon: Quote:

wow.. I am impressed! Game on Fresnelly! My photo has not stood the test of time, colour-wise. I took that when my brother graduated from Lakehead U, in May 83. We then went tree planting up in Longlac. This was on the way.
And yes, I do have the same pic from the other direction. I'll scan/post it later! Good work Fresnelly! ** edit, I should mention where Ouimet Canyon is: about 60 km north-east of Thunder Bay: http://www.ontarioparks.com/english/ouim.html

Here's my corollary from may/83. It's almost like that photo point on the Malahat, where everybody takes the same picture:
