What are you doing for Thanksgiving?
Greetings fellow Canadians!
It is time once more to celebrate the harvest with a long weekend. I am taking the family up to our cottage for the weekend where we will spend some time crunching around in leaves, canoeing, fishing, breating in the fresh cold air of the Ottawa Valley. This will be capped off with a feast of roast Turkey (prepared by me) and all the fixings. I can't wait... What are you plans for Thanksgiving? |
Since my midterms are coming up, i'll probably be studying. My family and family friends used to do a huge Thanksgiving dinner with each other at someone's house. But since we haven't gotten an e-mail about that yet, I assume it's not going to happen.
Actually, one of my friends said she'd like to come over to watch some movies. I guess i'll have another anime marathon with her :) |
good thread! well, since it seems to have arrived way too early this year, it has kind of caught me by surprise. Maybe the warm weather has a lot to do with it. It seems that the kids just started school again, and summer activities are still winding down.
At any rate, I'll be joining my sister at my mother's place in Whitby for thanksgiving dinner on Monday. Friday is a day off, so I will have a 4 day weekend, and possibly make a trip up to the cottage (Haliburton area) on Saturday/Sunday. |
....alone...so alone....
Just kidding guys...I'll be alright... Happy Thanksgiving! |
Heading to the Ottawa valley as well, Petawawa to be exact, visiting the parents for the weekend, have some family coming in from Belleville, should be a nice relaxing weekend.
|
I'm going up to Orangeville to work on a Kid's show. I wish it wasn't on Thanksgiving but the job itself will be fun. I'll spend time with my family on Sunday.

My uncle has a cottage on Round Lake as well, very nice out there, I always enjoy myself when I'm there.
|
I'm going to watch hockey.
All weekend. With my good buddy, and as many beers as will fit in my fridge. I am glad the Lockout is over. The NHL one, not the CBC one. Sheesh, how bad is it that I have to clarify which lockout I am referring to? |

Wow! I am LOVING the Ottawa Valley connections here on the TFP. On a side note, last months Canadian Geographic Magazine did a cover story on the Ottawa Valley, complete with pics of Barney McCaffrey! Unfortunately I will not be going to Deacon for the holiday. Thanksgiving is my all time favourite holiday, but since I moved out east I've had to learn to adjust to some different traditions. Trust me, it's not easy. Charlatan, take some pics of the colours for me. Some reminders would sure be sweet. |

I will be spending a bunch of time with family and Simon. I'll also be starting the three essays I have due next week. *sigh*
I'm not big on turkey, but I am looking forward to the veggies and potatoes and pumpkin pie! mmmm!! |

I HATED the thanksgiving break and all of the profs saying at the same time "Well, since you have the long-weekend off, I want you to read these 2 chapters and hand in these 5 assignments on Tuesday." Fuckers... I can't wait until I get an academia job. I'm going to rip down the system FROM THE INSIDE!!! :) |

shits and giggles it is then........ |
So Charlatan, how was it??? I haven't heard much from my folks. I'm dying for some photographic evidence...

It was a great weekend. We took many walks in the woods (despite the bear warnings). The leaves weren't all that vibrant this year though.
The weather was perfect. Crisp cool air and just the right tang of fall. I have some pictures but I need to get some new batteries for my camera so I can download them. |
We had our downstairs neighbour in for dinner and a friend of mine. Our neighbour was on call at the hospital, so she had to leave once or twice. dinner was nice, apple and pumpkin pie, and we had stuffed chicken instead of turkey. Now I'm back to studying for my Industrial Relations mid-term on Wednesday...

I hear you Ben. One of my sons had a geography project AND an essay that were assigned last Weds and due on Tuesday (today). Talking about fucking up a family weekend. He's only in Grade 8 ffs. I have a half a mind to go into the school and have a little discussion with that twerp of a teacher. Finding bristle board and researching the Russian settlement of Siberia while preparing for Thanksgiving dinner aside, we had lots of food. There was turkey and ribs at my mother's place out in Whitby. Fall colours haven't hit the Beaches/Danforth area of Toronto yet, but they are starting (just barely) in Whitby. the suddenly cooler weather sure helped it *feel* more like thanksgiving season, so we were thankful for that ! |
