Ketchup, or do you say catsup?

As far as I'm concerned, ketchup has a single use. It's good for dunking french fries in.

My wife on the other hand, uses it a a major food group. She uses it on eggs, steak, and even macaroni and cheese (damn disgusting).

So where do you stand on the great ketchup debate? Seen any other odd uses for it?

I use it on eggs and steak and a lot of other things, but never on my mac and cheese, although I have seen a lot of people doing that, the one time I tried it, I felt rather sick it just doesn't taste that good, at least to me. My parents always told me when I was a kid that I used it as a food group and I guess I still do it goes with just about everything.

Ketchup is for people who don't like the taste of food. It removes most other flavors from anything you put it on.

I agree in principle but, eggs just don't taste like much of anything without some ketchup or salsa... sure the yolks are good but the whites needs a little something.

What about hotdogs and hamburgers?

Try a shot of tabasco on your eggs if your eggs are in need of some added flavour. Personally, I use a bit of salt and pepper to jazz em' up.

On hamburgers I put mayo, dejon mustard, onions and some mushrooms if I have them. Adding ketchup is like pouring on sugar.

I don't like/eat those little bags of mystery meat known as hotdogs.

I'm an anti-ketchupite. Haven't touched the stuff in no idea how long. Only salt belongs on fries, IMO.

I think the more interesting question is: how do you pronounce it? Me, I pronounce it as if it were lagging behind an I want it to... well, you know.

What!? Nobody likes it on Mac and Cheese?

Jeez, Canada has a major, major culture revolved around Kraft Dinner (My Dad is the only Canadian that hates it) and I have yet to meet a fellow Canadian that didn't like putting Ketchup on it!

HOWEVER, there is absolutly no use for ketchup.
not on fries
not on hamburgers
and certainly not on hotdogs
Never mind all the other stuff people put it on.

Ketchup is a product that has no REAL use.

Canada consumes more Kraft Dinner per capita than any other nation. Personally, I don't like Kraft Dinner. I prefer the Presidents Choice Mac and Cheese with white cheese... much tastier.

Generally, I don't put ketchup on my mac and cheese. I like it fine the way it is. The only time I do is when I am eating it as a leftover out of the fridge.

Damn, y'all really needed to watch more Julia child... Powdered orange cheese is just entirely too revolting... I'd understand why youwould put ketchup on it-- to kill the taste.

Cheese is supposed to be perishable.. not last thru an atomic winter.. it shouldnt have a shelf life

Fries are incomplete without ketchup, and it's good on a hamburger or hot dog, although I can take just mustard with those

Ketchup - For fries, and burgers (and maybe to help out a dry meatloaf)

Salsa goes on everything else....

my dad used to put ketchup on & in nearly everything!
when i was kid i got disgusted when he put ketchup in campbell's chicken noodle soup.
that's just WRONG.
(nowadays my dad is allergic to tomatoes! maybe he ODed on them?)

ketchup is ok on a burger if ya can't pony up a real tomato slice.
it's ok to dip french fries or onion rings in. neither that i eat too often anyway.

tomatoes are suppose to be good news for prostates.
"they" said ketchup counts in that arena.
luckily i eat lots of tomatoes & don't have a prostate issue to be concerned about.

I definitely agree with those that say ketchup has many uses, though sometimes there are times when it is just too much. I know little kids enjoy ketchup more than older people do... not sure why though... i mean ketchup sandwiches? Come on, put some bologna on that or something...lol. Though when you go camping alot, especially living out all summer... ketchup becomes your best friend. There is some food that you may not know what the heck it is, you would be surprised what a little bit of ketchup can do... =)

I have really weird taste buds--I will pretty much try any combination of any foods/condiments. Really. Although I'm ambivalent towards katchup: I have or am willing to try any of the aforementioned food/katsup combinations mentioned above (mac&cheese+katsup, katsup sandwich, etc.), however, katsup is not a good group for me. I'm just extremely open-minded when it comes to food.

Katsup+popcorn=one of my favorite snacks as a kid (haven't had this in a while mostly due my family having a history of diabetes and not wanting to tempt it any further)

You know how there's people that think salsa goes good on everything? And people who think katsup goes good on everything? And people that think salt goes good on everything? And people who think pepper goes good on everything? Or people that think tobasco sauce goes good on everything? Well, I'm each and every one of them--I just put a whole bunch of pepper in my meat&vegetables soup just now (not too healthy, I know, but...). I like chicken (not necessarily fried) with katsup, BBQ sauce, hickory sauce, Worchestershire sauce... lemon garlic. You name it. I usually just keep it to one or two condiments though; too many condiments is just nasty. In fact... gah. Well you should get the idea by now.

Let's make this simple, when offered ketchup with my fries i tell the people who ask (family and fast food clerks alike) "Don't threaten me like that". It is revolting, the smell the taste the texture. Hell one time i went to a fish and chips joint and on my little tray i had 2 condiment bottles, i instantly knew one was malt vinegar and went wild, but the other one was this red bottle with some sickly sweet red sauce inside, took me 3 minutes of sniffing the bottle to remember it was ketchup. Fries are not complete without lemon, malt vinegar, salt, pepper, and tartar sauce, now that and mayo and mustard are true all purpose sauces. I swear i wasnt raised brittish (not that there is something wrong with that)

REMEMBER KIDS JUST SAY NO TO BAD SAUCES
