Guess where BigBen is from

Um, no. I VISITED Regina, when the queen was visiting, but that is not where I am.

I thought you guys knew all about me...

I thought someone was listening to what I had to say... *sniffle*

Okay, come on. I know I have told you guys before. Not in a direct "Hey, I'm from _____" but close enough.

He/She who answers correctly will become my new TFP bestest friend

highthief 08-31-2005 03:07 PM

London, ON?

I have no idea, just guessing.

the_marq 08-31-2005 03:15 PM

Some wildassed guesses:

Moose Jaw
Dudurn
Wainright

ShaniFaye 08-31-2005 03:21 PM

bet its not a place with as wierd a name as where Im from!!

ShaniFaye 08-31-2005 03:28 PM

Saskabush.....maybe I was wrong in my previous post

Ishmal 08-31-2005 03:33 PM

Saskatchewan???

Ishmal 08-31-2005 03:35 PM

damn,

Shani beat me!

ShaniFaye 08-31-2005 03:39 PM

well...I cannot lie....not knowing canadian towns...I wasnt sure if he was being smart and calling saskatchewan something else...or if that was really a place....so I just said what he'd said in another post.....so maybe Ishmal really won

Ishmal 08-31-2005 03:55 PM

LOL.

yer, i pulled Saskatchewan out of one of his posts as well...

then i googled it to make sure it was a real place...

little old me down here in Australia has never heard of it, and i sure as hell can't pronounce it...

i found it here (post #69)

i guess Shani found it here (post #197)

ShaniFaye 08-31-2005 03:57 PM

well maybe he can declare it a tie and have two tfp best friends :lol:

(least he can do since we took the time to search his 11 pages worth of posts on this board lol)

kramus 08-31-2005 04:24 PM

I only remember that you are a prairie boy who knows cattle. Your post about the bull and the teargas was memorable. I also know that they grow them big on the prairies, and that you are - what, 6-3 and 240? Your size was mentioned in a user-name thread where you commented on your lack of originality in using your name, physical size, and the last 3 digits of your miliatary identification number to come up with your user name.

Can I be your TFP fellow citizen instead? I don't have details, but I have read your posts when I come across them.

Wait, I won't search, but the name of the town is referenced in your marital issue thread, right? Where you commented on a fellow who is a cop . . .

I'll stop right here Ben, but I will follow with interest to see who gets the buddy prize ;)

Charlatan 08-31-2005 04:52 PM

Saskatoon?

Saskatchewan is a province in Canada (it's like a state only in Canada).

It's that damn Queen thread that made me think you were in Regina... I knew it was Saskatchewan at least...

streak_56 08-31-2005 05:45 PM

I'd say Saskatoon or Swift Current?

Bob Biter 08-31-2005 06:20 PM

Nah, he's from Moose Jaw.

BigBen 08-31-2005 06:27 PM

I am always amazed at the people here that I have come to know and love...

Charlatan, Streak, and the rest get BIG brownie points for naming SASKATOON or SASKATCHEWAN in your posts... Yes, I am a Saskatoon boy, raised since I was LittleBen931.

The Grand Prize goes to The_Marq in naming Dundurn as the place where I was currently residing.

Who knew you guys were so observant?

Oh, wait. There is a search feature in TFP, and you guys took the time and energy to make sure that I was telling the truth.

In a previous post, I mentioned "Saskabush, Grasscatchewan" which refers to Saskatoon, but only to locals.

Marq went a step further and found out (or knew already) that Dundurn is the Military Camp that I call home.

I love this place. I never knew that a message board could connect me with perfect people like you (the collective you, not You necessarily).

kramus 08-31-2005 06:27 PM

I reckin' I knew a Tall Tim from Blind River, but thet's another tale for the tellin'

I grew up not far from Saska-ma-toon, fairly familiar with the bases in AB and SK.

ShaniFaye 09-01-2005 03:19 AM

hmmm I guess thats the difference....Normally when I say where Im from its where I was born....not where I live currently :lol:

oh well...Congrats the_marq :icare:

/off to find a friend in some other thread :(

Runnin' Back To Saskatoon

The Guess Who

~~~~~
{Spoken}
There's a province up in Canada that's right next door to ours.
It's called Saskatchewan. And, uh, in that province there's a
small town, uh, where nothing much ever happens, called
Saskatoon. This is a tune about that town. This is called
"Runnin' Back To Saskatoon".
~~~~~

------ harmonica ------

I been hangin' around gas stations
I been learnin' 'bout tires
I been talkin' to grease monkeys
I been workin' on cars

Moose Jaw saw a few, Moosomin too
Runnin' back to Saskatoon
Red Deer, Terrace and a Medicine Hat
Sing another prairie tune
Sing another prairie tune

I been hangin' around libraries
I been learnin' 'bout books
I been talkin' to playwriters
I been workin' on words, phrases

Moose Jaw saw a few, Moosomin too
Runnin' back to Saskatoon
Red Deer, Terrace and a Medicine Hat
Sing another prairie tune
Sing another prairie tune

I been hangin' around hospitals
I been learnin' 'bout dyin'
I been talkin' to heart doctors
I been workin' on disease

Moose Jaw saw a few, Moosomin too
Runnin' back to Saskatoon
Red Deer, Terrace and a Medicine Hat
Sing another prairie tune
Sing another prairie tune

This tune is home grown
Don't come from Hong Kong
This tune is home grown
Don't come from Hong Kong

I been hangin' around grain elevators
I been learnin' 'bout food
I been talkin' to soil farmers
I been workin' on land

Moose Jaw saw a few, Moosomin too
Runnin' back to Saskatoon
Red Deer, Terrace and a Medicine Hat
Sing another prairie tune
Sing another prairie tune

I been hangin' around camera stores
I been learnin' 'bout sight
I been talkin' to film makers
I been workin' on eyes

a good music trivia question for that song is 'how many towns are named' People ALWAYS forget Hong Kong.

You can win a beer with it. easy.

crxforum 09-11-2005 11:16 PM

Too bad they already guessed it. I was going to say Dildo Newfoundland. Yes it is a real place.

Saskatoon, eh? When you said in your stories that you grew up around farms, I assumed in the same way I did (lived out in the middle of nowhere, friends were all farmers, slung bales to make a buck etc). Turns out you're a prarie boy, so I guess you got me beat.

Man, I'm sorry.

Saskatchewan is like the bastard province. BC has mountains and weed, Alberta's got oil, Ontario is the seat of the Canadian government, Quebec is.. well, Quebec. You guys and Manitoba are just sort of shoved in the middle and forgotten about.

BigBen 09-16-2005 07:12 AM

Try looking at all of the concert announcements that come to Canada:

If you are huge, like U2 and the Stones, you go to Vancouver, Toronto, and Montreal.

If you are really big, like the American top 40 guys, you go to:
Vancouver
Victoria
Edmonton
Calgary
Winnepeg
...
Whoa, what the hell happened? Where is Saskatchewan on that list? Oh, we don't count. Even Winnepeg has over a million people in it, therefore worthy of mentioning.

I know a band will probably come around here when I hear Prince George and Kamloops on the tour as well.

Having said that, Pearl Jam just came through, and they sang "Runnin Back to Saskatoon" at the end. They were totally riffing, but it was awesome.
