Tornado warning for Toronto
Wow.
It has been years since I can remember Toronto having a tornado warning. The skys look very ominous and full of danger. Stand by for an update... from OZ. |
My poor little brother (even though he's fifteen) is at home alone freaking out right now.
Quite dark indeed... I hope this all ends soon so I can go home. |
I was just out on Queen St. W. and it was very dark.
Our electricity is flickering randomly and my son, at home, just saw swirling clouds.... Creepy. |
Stay safe everyone!
|
Lots of water, could hardly see through the windshield, but no twister at Yonge and Finch (north end of Toronto) at any rate.
|
Sat at home all day waiting for the big 'ol tornado. I was disappointed.
Would of made a great story for my environmental hazards class. But then again, that ended yesterday. |
It was calm for a while downtown... I decided it was dry enough to head home. Of course, as soon as I was on the street car, rain.
Lot's and lot's of rain. More rain than I've seen all summer. |
I heard one touched down outside of Brampton.. but thats what someone told me :S

Turns out we had a lot of flooding.
There was a dramatic rescue below the Bloor Viaduct. The DVP was flooded and rescue workers used Seadoos to get up the valley. The DVP is still closed this morning because of all the mud left behind after the water drained. Huge flood at Finch and Sentinal. A bridge and part of the road washed out. Trees are down all over the city. Tornados did touch down to the west of us between London and Guelph. Fergus seems to have been hit the hardest. Apparently it was an F2 tornado. Very few injuries have been reported thankfully. I know this may not seem like much to those of you who live through hurricanes in the south and frequent tornados in the mid-west but we just don't get this sort of weather here. The last time I remember anything like this it was when Barrie was hit by severeal tornados and that was in the mid-80s. Turns out my workplace had to deal with some flooding. Good thing I wasn't around at the time.
|
The ground floor of our condo is, shall we say, soggy? But as we live on the 5th floor, we're really not affected other than one of the elevators went out of service due to getting a little moist.
|
Bout time Toronto got a good rainstorm, the smell was really getting to me ;)
|
Glad to hear everyone's O.K. and that the next TFP meet-up won't have to be on a floating piece of driftwood.
I was quite worried, but then after it didn't happen, remembered that when Toronto is worried about weather phenomenon, the actual end result is more like a milquetoast version of the real thing. Like the "snow storms" we get. I think the prairie-dwellers laugh at our winters. |
I got off work friday morning (Aug 19th) It was raining so hard that i couldn't even see the lines on the road..It was like a mist on the road. My wipers couldn't go fast enough to keep my windshield clear and the roads were close to flooded.
|
funny thing....i live 1/2 hour from toronto, and had no idea any of this happened. I didn't get one drop where I live.....drove thru fergus at about 10pm and had no idea what went on there either! Guess I'm pretty oblivious in my little bubble/office!
|
We got heavy rain in Montreal for exactly 20 minutes. This was supposedly some Toronto weather residue.
|
I drove through the area where the tornado hit on the way to the Bruce on Friday night. Saw a building with it's roof torn off and a tree broken into pieces like it was matchsticks.
Managed to miss the bad rain myself. =) |
