expired passport

Not really sure who to ask so I'm posting it here.

If my passport is expired, can I still fly to Australia? (from NZ)
If not, where do I go to get it renewed? And how soon can I get it back?

Are you a US citizen?

If your passport is expired you cannot leave the USA, and will ened to have it renewed.

There are express ways of doing this, if it is an emergency you might be able to have it done very urgently.

NZ citizen, I think I can still fly domestically, not sure if it applied to Oz too.

It'd be risky going overseas with an expired passport, even with the closeness of Australia and NZ.

Just get a rushed passport renewal ;)

Although you can fly domestic, you'll certainly need a valid passport to cross the Tasman -

I just checked the price for a 3 day renewal-- $140!!
If this isn't daylight robbery...

I'm going to go and cry now.

My father flys very regularly, therefore his passport fills up with stamps etc. before it is expired. They introduced a German passport with twice as many pages, but it costs twice as much. This is rather ridiculous as the extra paper isn't worth that much. So yes I do believe governments make a nice income from people obtaining passports. If possible plan it out so you have a few weeks or even months to renew your passport so that it doens't cost as much. Also remember that when flying overseas it's advisable to have a passport that is still valid for over 6 months, there are some regulations in some places, they may even not allow you to fly.

have you checked with the airport?you can renew passports at most post offices in australia but it still takes a few weeks unless you have a good valid reason. i do'nt think it would be worth the risk to fly without a valid passport

You can get a new passport in a day if you're willing to pay for it ($400+), but it's all sorted now, bad photo and all. (In fact, I just came back yesterday.)
