he was the co-founder of the Heritage Front, and now he is dead. I was happy to hear this. then I was appalled that i was happy that somebody was murdered.

I think that this is newsworthy, and discussion worthy, does anybody have the mixed feelings that I do?

Man charged in slaying of Heritage Front leader

An acquaintance of notorious white supremacist Wolfgang Droege has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with his shooting, sources told The Canadian Press today.
Two sources identified the accused as Keith Deroux, 44, of Toronto.

Droege was shot dead in his home yesterday in a murder that one source said likely had no connection to his racist views.

Police were wrapping up their investigation of the crime scene and planned to announce later today that the charge had been laid.

Droege, 55, was shot and left for dead in the hallway of his east-end apartment yesterday afternoon.

A suspect was arrested after a tense one-hour standoff at Droege’s apartment.

As leader of the Heritage Front, Droege was among Canada’s best-known white supremacists, although associates say he had drifted away of the movement over the past decade.

“(He) was probably the most significant neo-Nazi organizer in Canadian history,” said Bernie Farber, chief executive officer of the Canadian Jewish Congress.

Speculation immediately swirled that the killing was political, but one source said he believed it was the result of a feud over a woman.

Droege himself had a long criminal record that included more than a half dozen convictions for offences such as assault and possession of dangerous weapons.

As a result, he lost his job as a bailiff in the mid-1990s and was unable to find regular work.

The German-born Droege became a Canadian citizen in the early 1970s and became involved in ultra-extreme white supremacist politics, including Ku Klux Klan activity in British Columbia and Toronto.

He was also involved in an attempt to overthrow the Caribbean island of Dominica in 1981.

In 1992, his links with racist organizations led to his expulsion from Preston Manning’s Reform party, one of the precursors to the federal Conservative party.

He reappeared in the news again last summer when Grant Bristow, co-founder of Heritage Front who was revealed in 1994 as a paid informant for Canada’s spy service, said he took the job because it ``was the right thing to do.”

I didn't notice a lack of sympathy. It never occured to me that sympathy and this oxygen thiefs death were in any way something that had a relationship. I did notice that the folks at work (myself included) thought "right-on" and were glad that he was dead. One less blight on the Canadian landscape. I did wonder if there was a calculated reason for taking him out - you know, business. I was more impressed with the picture of the swat guy in the Toronto Sun. He looked like the real deal. Don't fuck with the swat boys, they will shoot you dead at Union Station at high noon if they feel called upon to do so.
