Back From Ottawa, Thanks everybody for the Advice!!

Thanks everyone for hepling with my trip.

I stayed at the Westin Hotel. I pulled open my curtains and saw the PEACE TOWER in the distance. Very cool

I got there in enough time to see the parliament building. Went up to the Peace tower and took some good photos.

I had a BeaverTail. 3 in fact. I like the cinammon sugar the best.

THE WAR MUSEUM WAS CLOSED. It is relocating and will open in May. Damn.

I went to the Royal Canadian Mint. I held a gold bar in my hands, saw what 1 Million in gold looks like, and I am proud to say that I am worth 1.905 Million dollars CDN if I am worth my weight in gold. Pretty cool, considering that I have an honours degree in economics and I spent all that time in Monetary Policy class.

The National Gallery really ate up a lot of time. Who knew that we had such cool art? I knew that I wanted to see The Voice Of Fire, but I was blown away with the Van Gough's, Monet's, Picasso's, and Chegall's.

I saw the tomb of The Unknown Soldier, and I cried. There were some kids on skateboards and Mountain Bikes doing tricks, and I looked at them and they turned and left.... quickly. I stayed there quite a while.

The Photography Museum was neat, as I am a photo buff, but it was too short. I was expecting a lot more.

The Embassies (sp?) were interesting. I was not expecting to see the US embassy up close. Where did I think it would be? Toronto? LOL.

I couldn't have done it without you guys.

Well, I guess I could have, but it wouldn't have been as good.
Well, I guess maybe it could have, but I dont' think so.

I owe all of you posters a beer when you come out to Saskatchewan.

Tried to put a photo here, but I didn't read the instructions properly, just like a proud Canadian

BigBen, was there a picture there? it didn't load...

I've been to Ottawa on several occasions, winter and summer, and love it's spaced out scale. It's very park-like, pleasant. I also stayed a the Westin, right beside the canal, and the market. Just FYI, the Americans manage a consulate here in Toronto on University avenue, but lately it's been surrounded by concrete blocks, and has guards posted. I don't know what the embassy looks like, But I'm sure its much nicer, less utilitarian than the consulate...

The US embassay used to be directly across the street from the Parliament Buildings. It always struck me as an odd location.

They moved to their new location when they outgrew the old space.

Did you check out the peacekeeper's memorial in front of the National Gallery? I thought it was very nice.

I forgot to mention the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. They only moved it here a few years ago... before that it was in France. There are usually skaters on the Memorial but not on the Tomb.

I'm glad you had a good time... I love Ottawa. I lived there for five years or so and still kind of miss it (especially in the summer).

Ottawa is me old stompin' grounds. Got my B.A. at Carltoon, aka Last Chance U. Ahhh the good times I had. I never stayed at the Weston as it is normally reserved for royalty or hockey teams. I have, however, frequented the market, Murray and Dalhousie, for those who know where that is...

I was back to Ottawa for the March Break, and I don't miss it a bit. When it takes a freaking hour to get up Merivale from Hunt Club to the 417, that's when I lose it.

I'll take the east coast any day, where you can get from one province to another in an hour...

I went to Carleton also. '86-90. Nothing like getting to classes through the underground tunnels in the winter.

Trying my damnest to get a photo on here

Lets try this again...

I was changed as a person when I visited the national gallery. I want to share everything with you guys. I took pictures where I was allowed, and therefore I am assuming that these images belong to me, and there are no copywright issues here.

I plead the journalism exclusion clause. Pretend I am reporting for an online travel guide.

Please, I am praying to the God Halx, let this work

Being stumped by computers is really frustrating, and searching the TFP has been fun and I want to give back.

Hey! you were there when I was there... I spent a lot of time in St. Pat's (Film Studies), the Green Room of the Alumni Theatre (I was involved with Sock 'n' Buskin) and CKCU.

Ben... I love the Gallery. My cottage is two hours from Ottawa and I usually make one trip in while I am on vacation. My son and I always make a quick trip to the gallery. I love showing him the various pieces on display there (he loves the Voice of Fire),hanging out and talking art.

9th floor Loeb building. Other end of the campus

The rest of the time The Oak on Bank, Baxter's on Riverside (Bank) and Rooster's, (not so much Oliver's). Hey Charleton, remember Spodi Odies. What's a market without meat.

And great pics from Big Ben. At this time of night it would take me 20 minutes to get downtown and see the pics posted. It's never lost on me, the heritage of Ottawa even though I live here and see whatever, whenever.

I used to be at Baxter's for wing night every week... I think it was one of my main sources of protien. The Oak down by Sommerset or the one in the Glebe (changed it's name from the 5:15)... I worked at the Mayfair Theater for a year or so and the Bread and Fruit for about the same...

I don't remember Spodi Odies... spent a lot of time at Irene's Pub, the Duke of Sommerset, cheap quarts and local colour at the Chateau Laffayette, Club Zinc in Hull... definately Rooster's over Oliver's and much down time at The Oasis in the basement of Res (close to St. Pat's).

The tunnels were always a treat, but as I always lived off campus, I didn't have the added benefit of attending class in summer shorts at the height of winter (let's play spot the rezzie!).
