Best Canadian news site?
Which site do you find to be the best source for Canadian news, specifically Canadian Press stories?
Mytelus.com's news section seems to have all the stories from the Canadian Press, as does cnews.canoe.ca. There's also Yahoo news and CP's own site which unfortunately only shows a limited number of stories. Are there any other CP sources that I'm unaware of? I wish they offered a RSS feed on their site (although Yahoo does have a CP feed) |
I use canada.com but would hardly consider them "the best". To me, it's an oxymoron. This might be slightly off-topic but wouldn't you love to find a news service that didn't strive to find the "human angle that capture's our attention" and just gave us the dry honest facts. I'm so disappointed by the mainstream media. I'm sure this topic has been discussed elsewhere on tfp but it relates to Canada as well. News gets thinner and thinner of facts and the fluff and joe-on-the-street opinion gets thicker and thicker to the point that the reality of the stories get skewed.
But even knowing this, one can't help reading the newspaper and forming opinions based on what is presented there. God help us. |
I use yahoo.ca , but only because it is easy . I do not love thier coverage.
It seems limited! |
Am I the only one that still likes the good ole CBC? Its also the only place I can find Yellowknife news

I subscribe to a couple CBC rss feeds but I guess their site doesn't have enough stories for me. Looks like I'll be sticking with the previously mentioned mytelus and/or cnews.canoe.ca

Regarding Canadian news, they're all just regurgitated versions of American news from my perspective. Looking on the CBC website right now the top stories are a Afghan plane wreckage that was found, Child porn in Florida and the Pope is still alive.
Any mention of things happening in Canada or where I actually live. Nope. |

The Afgan plane crash and the Pope are international stories... The Afgan plan wreck also has a Canadian angle in that someone on board had a Canadian passport, not to mention that our troops are in Afganistan. The Pope story... international The child porn thing... It is American based but child porn *is* a hot button issue. The CBC, while a good source for Canadian stories is also a good place to get International stories from a Canadian perspective... That is the distinction that needs to be made. The CBC has corespondants and stingers around the world... the other networks don't come close... other websites use wire stories. For Canadian and for local stories (local is more important to me) I go to CP24's website or the CBC. |
This summer when I was renovating my house I listened to CBC radio all day. I actually got hooked and I've been listening to it ever since. The daytime stuff is actually very entertaining, and educational, and the news is always generally pretty good. I know that's radio and not television, but I only watch CBC news on television too.

To me, being bilingual and all (I function in English), I find RDI (the french equivalent of CBC Newsworld) to be very good and a little less submissive with our neighbours to the south than the english CBC. When international observers werent allowed in the Ohio polling stations during the US election, it was reported on RDI, yet it wasnt mentioned on CBC as far as I know :)
