What Will Phil Do?

OK, so here in the US, Wednesday, February 2 is Ground Hog Day, and while there will be much joy and celebrating in the land.. it falls on hump day after all... The speculation will be, what will Phil do? (Punxsutawney Phil will set the standard for Groundhog Day, I know there are other rodents around the country who dothe same predicting, but Phil is the rodent to watch.

Will Punxsutawney Phil see his shadow and subject us to six more weeks of bad weather as he returns to his hole. Or if the day is cloudy and, hence, shadowless, he takes it as a sign of spring and stays above ground.

No shadow, With the kind of winter we've had this year. I don't think we are going to get off that easy.

Does what Phil sees outweigh what our General Lee sees?

Its supposed to rain all day tomorrow, so Im seriously doubting ours will see anything

What about Lil Bit?

Lexington Will Host Its First Ever "GroundHawg's Day"

Mac Ingraham , Reporter

It's a new twist on Groundhog Day and city promotors hope it will draw just as much attention to the barbecue town as Punxsatawney Phil does for Punxsatawney, Pennsylvania.

Lexington, NC -- Groundhog Day will take on a new meaning next month in the city known for its barbecue.

That's because they're rooting for a new winter weather predictor in Lexington.

Her name is "Lil' Bit".

She's a pot bellied pig and the next in line in the list of animals who can predict the length of winter.

Or so the people of Lexington are hoping.

"Lil' Bit" will make her own prediction about either a long winter or early spring in Uptown Lexington.

And organizers expect she will help promote their city as well.

Liz Parham is the Executive Director of Uptown Lexington, Incorporated.

She says if a groundhog can do it, why not a pig?

"It's just such a natural fit quite frankly with barbecue and the fiberglass pigs we've done for the last two years. It seems like it's just next in a series of events about pigs. Who knows?"

"Lil' Bit" will make her debut prediction Wednesday, February 2nd behind city hall along what's known as "Barbecue Alley" in Uptown Lexington at 7:30 that morning.

My friend got a ginea pig, and it eats so much it's about as fat as a small ground hog. The little runt never gets to see his shadow, though. But I'm definitely going to have to watch Groundhog's Day tomorrow though; TNT or some other station has gotta air it

okay so here's the report from Georgia

Quote:
LILBURN, Ga. (AP) -- The groundhog known as Gen. Beauregard Lee rolled out of his bed Wednesday morning, emerged before a crowd of about 100 people waiting in the rain and predicted an early spring.

Not only did Beau not see his shadow, he also brought a surprise: His new girlfriend.

The mystery lady, who will remain nameless until a contest bestows her with a moniker, has been dating Beau off and on during the past six weeks

Game ranchers hope the couple will produce a successor for Lee, who may soon be hanging up his weather vane.

Old age could force the critter into retirement before the next Groundhog Day rolls around, said Art Rilling, founder of Yellow River Game Ranch where Beau lives.

"He's getting a little slower, sleeping in a little later, getting a little fatter," Rilling said. "This could be his last Groundhog Day."

At 15, Beau has already lived the life of at least five groundhogs, which only have a life expectancy of two to three years. His predecessor and uncle, Gen. Robert E. Lee, gave the Groundhog Day predictions for 10 years before he retired.

"When you get fed every day and have shelter, you can last a long time," Rilling said. "He's got an easy life. He's only expected to do something once a year."

If he leaves, Beau would take his near perfect accuracy rate. His prognosticating prowess has earned him honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Georgia and Georgia State University.

He was wrong in 1993, when Beau called for an early spring and the worst blizzard in decades blasted the South.

Handlers at the ranch decided this year to give Beau a home worthy of his stature. On Tuesday, he was moved into a three-story mansion built on his property, appropriately called Weathering Heights.

To lure him out of his new palace Wednesday, ranch handlers plied Beau with hash browns and fresh fruit as onlookers cheer, "Go, Beau!"

In 2004, Beau was introduced to the low-carb diet when handlers laid out Atkins-approved chicken and cheesy eggs at sunrise to draw the groundhog from his home. He had grown so pudgy the door to his shed had been widened. But Beau ignored that breakfast, choosing instead to chew on the door of his house.
