Internet Providers
I am currently looking at changing my Internet Provider and was just wondering who people use and whether they think they are good or not. I cant get broadband where I live (which I really hate and am pissed off with) so it has to be good ole dial up. I used to be with iprimus, but they just didnt want to help. Currently I am using Bigpond prepaid which I hate cause you have to keep and eye on the time. So who do you use?????

Have you added yourself to Telstra demand register?
I didn't look to hard for the proper telstra one - but here is one place to do it Demand Register Alternatively, you could register with other infrastructure providers like Agile: Agile Demand Register I haven't been on dial up for ages so have no real recommendation (last carrier was one tel, so I can't really recommend them...)

Assume that if you make enough noise, that might change. Write a letter to your local member complaining about how you can't get dsl, and get your neighbours to do the same - there is technology called a minimux which could be used to get you dsl...

What about cable? I'm with Telstra for mine, and I couldn't be happier with it, really. Not terribly faster than dialup for normal surfing, but for gaming and downloading it screams along.

Wasn't there a thing where if you wrote your local member complaining about the utilities of whatever sort (gas, electric, phone, water).. the provider gets charged $1000? That's cool.
Cable would cost a bit though, wouldn't it? |

I am not sure how much cable costs, but might look into that. Being in Darwin though we might not get it at all up here yet. We are so far behind the times. I know the guy next door to us is computer mad, so I am sure he will be more than happy to write a letter too. But I dont know whether it will be worth it cause we might be moving to Brisbane in the next 3 or 4 months. THanks for the insight guys.

Hell, Cable is dirt cheap compared to Telstra's ADSL plans. With a combined Cable/Phone deal, $60 a month, unlimited downloads, uncapped speed. A bit pricey to install, but now we have a cable outlet in our home, and a cable modem to boot. Oh, and we get 125 free local calls, too. It's not a bad deal, by any means, especially when we were spending ~$60 a month on dialup.

Not too many companies are rolling out cable anymore - way too expensive (Optus and Telstra definitely are not). It is worth asking I guess. It makes DSL look slow.
