Advice Needed--Good Bars In Vancouver
Hello my fellow TFPers...on Tuesday some friends and I are heading up to Vancouver, BC for a three day binge of drinking. Everyone keeps asking us why we 21-year-old Americans are going north to enjoy ourselves in such a fashion, but I keep insisting it's because Vancouver has cooler bars than Seattle (cheaper bars too) and Canadians seem to have fewer taboos or hang-ups about drinking. AND the domestic beer is better--AND cheaper.
Anyways, I was wondering if any of you who live around the Greater Vancouver area have any good bars to recommend--preferably ones for poor university students with good drink specials ;) We're staying at the Vancouver Central hostel (on Granville) which is right above the Royal. I am already familiar with the charms of the Royal and their $2 Heineken night. So anything beyond that would be most helpful. Thanks! |
Oh man, I must be getting old 'cause I'm drawing a blank. The Pit (out at UBC) used to be a good place but that's a long way from downtown. I still go to Richard's sometimes for the live music but they aren't know for cheap drinks.

Go to the Blarney Stone... I've never actually been there, but I hear it's a blast.
It's in the east end of gastown |
Blarney Stone - Great Irish pub in Gastown (216 Carrall)
The Cambie - Vancouver's oldest and cheapest pub (300 Cambie) Bourbon - Cheap and clean (50 West Cordova) The Yale - Sweet blues bar (1300 Granville) These are af few of the places I go, but I'm sure someone else can add some more. If you only go to one of these places, make it the Blarney Stone ... |
Oooooh!!! Thanks for the advice! The Yale looks pretty sweet; we're going to see what's going on there Thurs. as my traveling companions and I are blues fans. Everything else will be on tomorrow's Gonna Get Shitfaced list. :) I'm soooo looking forward to it.
What's funny is we're of age in the US but we came to Canada to drink... |
The Blarney Stone. Seriously, just go there every night.
|
Go find the ones with the neon signs;)
|
So - how'd your trip go?
|
Blarney Stone definately. Totally different atmosphere from most of the clubs in Vancouver. Just a helluva lot of fun. :)
