Mac v. PC
I was thinking of putting this in Computers, but then I figured the only sort of discussion this could turn into is a flame war, so I decided on nonsense instead. Enjoy!

Macs are personal computers.

Funny stuff there.

That was great, It would have had Tilted Computers in an uproar.

i was all prepared to say OMFG MUST THIS DISCUSSION HAPPEN YET AGAIN?
but ok. that was pretty amusing. thanks :) btw devout mac user here ;) |
Well, I've only ever used older Macs, and I found the OS to be ridiculously limiting and bass-ackwards. I remember trying to select multiply files at once, or some other seemingly simple task, but found myself unable to. Anyways, I'm sure that the OS has seen improvements since then, but I just have such a horrible first impression of Macs that I have to hate them. :)

Any computer that has only one mouse button by default and restricts what hardware I can put into it deserves my derision.

-don't do it
-no, you have to -please god not the mac pc argument -ahhhhhhh..... pc's are a big bags of clunky virus ridden shite (people who accuse them of being crap because they can't seem to use the OS are talking out of their ass - can't select multuple files- it's easier to do on a mac than a pc, Mac OS is more elegant and user friendly, try using a Pc once you get used to a mac then you'll know pain *breathe -ok done |
mac sux mac sux mac sux mac sux mac sux! ^^

I must agree with "one mouse button" thing. I have a friend who swore by macs - until he realised that they were compatible with about 5% of market software titles.
I must admit that it only crashed once in five months. But when it did, it formatted his hard drive and autocorrupted the drivers. Cue many weeks of frantic part-ordering and visits to file-restoration "experts". I'd rather deal with the odd software error, quite frankly. At least it doesn't terminally mess up your life. The thought occurs that if Mac OS was the dominant market platform, then it would have just the same problems in terms of viruses, worms and so-on. They may be better for high-end editing and resource-intense manipulation, but for heaven's sake, if it's not compatible, forget it. And we know it looks pretty, but go away. If I want white, I'll drop my laptop into the art department's paint bin. |
about 90% of the negative comments people have about macs are based on experiences with older mac operating systems, some as old as system 7. Thats like complaining about windows xp becuse windows 3.1 couldnt do some things. People should at least get their arguments right.

Since I've been exposed to pc's for years, a new Windows OS would be intuitively obvious to me now. The new Mac OS makes no sense to me. Our Chemistry department uses Macs, and I couldn't even figure out how to tell the computer to open the CD drive to put a CD in. What's wrong with a button? Sometimes I think they make these things different just to be different, not to be any better or easier to use.
