How much would it take?

You find a magic lamp. You rub it and a genie appears. The genie offers you one chance at financial security for the rest of your life. You have to name the amount of money that will allow you to live life the way you have always wanted to. If you name an amount that exceeds your needs, you get nothing. If you name an amount that is less than your needs, you will only receive that amount, which will run out sooner or later.

What amount do you name?

for me: $10 million would get it. I'd never have to work again, and could live life very comfortably for my remaining 35 to 40 years.

skinnedmink 04-19-2003 11:50 PM

Good question. I would have to say $1 million because, I figure I could work for awhile and still retire early if Invested.

cheapdog 04-20-2003 02:15 AM

at least 1 billion...

for 1 million, you can't even buy an apartment in ny, how can you even live off of that for the rest of your life.

alpha phi 04-20-2003 02:35 AM

HAHA, the Feds will even tax the Genie in the Lamp :D

I'd ask for about 30 million, and it'd would most likely be gone before I was.

genka 04-20-2003 04:55 AM

'bout 40 mil. I have a lot of fun stuff planned for later in my life :D

*Nikki* 04-20-2003 05:15 AM

50 mil.. I got expensive taste and there are several people I want to spoil.

jets 04-20-2003 06:10 AM

$7,234,003.45 I think.

Fly 04-20-2003 06:12 AM

10 million will do.thank you very much.

mr.government......go FUCK yourself

big party at my place.just bring instruments,i've got the PA.

KWSN 04-20-2003 06:12 AM

50 billion. A modest amount, I know, but there are a few things I'd like to buy. Say... Long Island.

bundy 04-20-2003 06:19 AM

27 billion would do me fine...
i'd live quite a humble existence knowing that my family and friends would be set up.

Cuball 04-20-2003 06:26 AM

I think I'd be ok with 5 million :)

Ciall 04-20-2003 06:58 AM

500 billion.
Yes indeed, my space program needs would finally be met.

sixate 04-20-2003 09:05 AM

I think about 100 billion would do it. With that kind of cash I buy a McLaren F1 for ever day of the year, and repeat that process every year!

*one of those cars costs just over a million dollars*

PorscheBunny 04-20-2003 09:21 AM

Given current piss-poor interest rates on savings and money-market accounts and a baby's needs to consider, it's gonna take more than it used to.

$100,000 after tax from interest income / .62 (100% - 31% federal tax - 7% state tax) = $161,290 pre-tax income
$161,290 income needs / .02 (2% MMA average) = $8 million

Since I need to get my student loans and mortgage paid off and some hush money to keep people from wondering where I got the cash to begin with, $10 million is probably what I'd need to ask for.

duckduck 04-20-2003 09:24 AM

I'm going to say $50 million. Honestly, after taxes up here and inflation, you'd prolly need that amount.

Loup 04-20-2003 09:30 AM

I think I can get away with $2 Million, tax free of course.
If anyone wants to test my theory, you can send the money to...

qpid 04-20-2003 09:50 AM

$50 mil would keep me happy

asdf1001 04-20-2003 10:35 AM

the way I like to spend money? Um, how 'bout $1 billion??

Where will you be delivering that to, anyway?

Bigwahzoo 04-20-2003 12:14 PM

100 grand a year multiplied by 70 years = 7 Million
I think that is fair.

yournamehere 04-20-2003 12:20 PM

I'd go with an even $100M

I'd spend most of my days giving it away

zmbabwe 04-20-2003 12:22 PM

for me probably 45 million if I live in the city for the rest of my life

Atropos4 04-20-2003 12:31 PM

10 million...i want to be spoiled

WhoaitsZ 04-20-2003 01:08 PM

due to my disabilities, to live _comfortably_ i'd need 100m.

i can always let some build interest.

Pooface 04-20-2003 03:54 PM

Im only 19 and Id say $75,000 a year. Im not sure how long I'd live but that should cover inflation.

reconmike 04-20-2003 05:01 PM

i need enough to buy bait

vermin 04-20-2003 05:08 PM
