is it just me? or do all Australians HATE being Stereotyped in relation to Steve Irwin? i mean, i've met him. my Grandma lives up the street from him in QLD. he's a nice bloke. he cares for his crocodile well. but on his show he acts like a fool! bringing Australia down in the worlds eye...

or is that just my opinion?
what do people from other countries think of him?
wat do aussies think?

Yeah, i guess i feel similar. I think Steve is pretty likeable, but he does act like a dick sometimes. Its pretty good though that someone like him can make money in the entertainment industry. I think he genuinely cares about all his creatures and stuff.
It is funny when people stereotype us to be these backward, simple minded, wilderness freaks, when really thats just western sydney. I guess its only when you step back from oz and have a look at you know our geographical location, our weird animals, most dangerous creatures, huge land mass, unique accents etc, that you realise we are pretty interesting and strange. Steve Irwins actually exist though, i went to school with a guy just like that as a kid. He always had a weird animal in his pocket.

he's just perpetuatiing the australian stereotype for his own personal gain. I'd do it aswell if it meant making millions of dollars.

He sure lays the accent on thinkly.. more thickly than he needs to... that's for sure.

When I lived the in States (before I came over here).. it was "hey, look at the crazy dude on TV". South Park summed it up well.

I'm pretty sure that's just the way Steve is. It's kinda hard to carry on like that all the time...which he does...given his apparent limited brain capacity. I mean....look at what he did with his baby. For fuck's sake...the guy's a total twat. But he's passionate about what he does, and he's bought acres of prime Sunshine Coast hinterland real estate and turned it into a pretty attractive and profitable tourist attraction/nature joint. The girls and I went to Australia Zoo mid last year (the third time I've been in the past 7 years), and the place is really well constructed. He's just doing what he loves doing. Just he looks like a total dick doing it...*shrug*

I agree with all of that. It would drive me crazy if we all spoke like this guy. Anyway I guess the yanks lap that stuff up and he knows it and is milking it for all his worth. Good luck to him I suppose.

i just heard he's expanding his croc farm in QLD... making it more like a ZOO. with animals from all ova the world now...

hes also opening a new croc farm... guess where... ... ...

yep, Steve and Terry are opening a croc farm in Las Vegas... so even more americans will think we talk like that... he must make a lot of money to be able to do that... i guess he was smart playing on the Aussie stereo-type... he DEFINATELY got rich.

Dammit.. I just came here to report that, myself. They said it on the plane yesterday, and (sad but true) the first thing I thought of was this thread.

Anyways, guess his 15 minutes aren't up yet.. and wtf is the doing giving his 1year old his own clothing line? That's just fucked.

You know.. there was another couple of people who had live dangerous animals in Las Vegas.. Sigfried and Roy... one of them was mauled by the tiger. I hate to say it, but maybe Steve could use a chomp on the arm to settle him down.

I asked my Mum to store my vinyl about 10 years ago when I left Melbourne. I have yet to ask her for them back, but I suspect they will be mouldy and saucer shaped when (and if) I see them again.

I have never really heard anyone lay an Aussie accent on so thick....except maybe an american actor playing an aussie in a B grade movie....maybe steve can take over for them..extending his 15 minutes of fame yet again.
