am I your boyfriend? I didn't think so.

The name makes perfect sense now, doesn't it?

Bryndian_Dhai 12-27-2004 10:14 PM

I am a writer, and one of my favorite things about the way I write is character development... most of my stories are based on a character who springs to life (in my head, thanks, lol) and demands to have his/her/its story told. I had one character who seems to be based fairly heavily on myself. Her story has not been written yet, but her character is fully developed. Her name is even based on my given name, her first name is a "gaelicized" sort of sound-alike version of my first name, and her last name is the old Scots gaelic of my family name. The only difference is that her name is female, and my first name is masculine (Brandon). (I am a woman whose mother has a nasty sense of humor).

Anyway, I've been using her name as my own for some time.... it seems right, and it feels right, so maybe that's all her story was about anyway, lol.

Chemical Smoo 12-28-2004 10:37 AM

Great stories... keep em coming!

bing bing 12-28-2004 06:38 PM

Bling Bling - minus two "l"s makes for a far cooler screen name. cool.

lite campfire 12-28-2004 07:01 PM

Just something silly I made up.
I only joined this forum for 't3h pr0n', so I didn't want to use my universal everywhere else screenname.

Mostly I lurk, if I ever feel like meaningfully participating in this forum I'll probably make a new account.

ZenFilthPig 12-30-2004 06:32 AM

Some friends and I were camping at a place that has these massive sanddunes. During the day we were doing a bit of sand-boarding and in the evening we dropped some acid throughout the night were refering to ourselves as the 'Zen Filthpig Sand Bandits from your local friendly Anglican Church'.

We ended up making a 24-hour comic about it (fuelled by alchohol and.... stuff.)

heather99 01-01-2005 01:30 PM

This is the best thread I've read for ages. CityOf Angels, as a name, is so sad, but lovely. Did Chemical Smoo ever explain? I love names. My recent favourite is Waverley Person. Can that be real?
I first thought of Heather after a night out in town. My friends and I met a group of guys who used false names(yes, I know). When I discovered this I thought it was kinda cool. I like flowers so: Heather is also Erica, Cally(Calluna) and Ling. Plus it's not terribly pretty. Oh, and Heather Graham was in the news at the time. And, from an IT point of view: if 01,02 and 03 have gone try 99. Then there's the cornet and flake 99 which is a little amusing. Plus, I can hide behind it.

Tracybrian 01-04-2005 05:24 PM

Everyone has very cool storys but mine is nothing amasing I live in the city of Tracy and my name is Brian. Maybe that is to much real info for a screen name.

Fourtyrulz 01-05-2005 01:04 PM

I needed to make a Hotmail email account back in 5th grade to join Geocities (those were the days hehe) and I was at a loss. I thought, "What do I like?...hmmm.. the San Fransico 49ers, they rule!" I was cool back then too so I added a "z", and apparently I was retarded too because I spelled "fourty" wrong! :D

Zant 01-17-2005 11:42 AM

I got into Graffiti art in my sophomore year in highschool and was thinking of a name
my real name is zain so I wanted something with a Z in it
as a joke I thought of Zanthrax but got quickly bored of it cuz its was too long and I got too lazy to type it out all the time and tag it out, so then I started doing Zant in my classes on the tables and stuff, so Zant kinda stuck, I use it everywhere now.

munchen 01-17-2005 11:55 AM

My sister went to work in europe for a co-op term and she brought me back a HUGE stein from germany that says munchen on it. its the only thing i ever drink out of. So when i needed to pick a username it was right there in front of me

Charlatan 01-17-2005 12:44 PM

Charlatan is the name I've gone by since I first started visting BBSs back in 1989 or 90... No real story behind it other than it was the name of my school newspaper (which I never worked for) and that I had a friend who would occasionally shout, "Baudelaire, Charlatan!" for no apparent reason...

When I needed a screen name all those years ago, it just sort of stuck in my head... It also summed(sums?) up the way I felt about myself...

TexanAvenger 01-17-2005 07:26 PM

I'm really proud of the fact that I'm originally from Texas, like apparently everybody else from there. I, however, hardly conform to the standard views of Texans. The most important differences, in my mind, being the difference in political stances. Therefore, I'm trying to show that not everybody from Texas is as staunchly conservative and ridiculously devoted to Bush as many people seem to think.

flstf 01-17-2005 07:29 PM

flstf = model number of Harley Davidson Fatboy motorcycle

BigBen 03-04-2005 09:42 AM

First Name, I am 6'3", and the last 3 from my military ID number. Not too exciting, but then again, neither am I.

Hampshire 03-04-2005 10:23 PM

i just like the name hampshire for some reason, then i realized it was a place, stupid me

waxmax 03-06-2005 12:34 AM

My 1 year old son Max tried to drink a lit candle and got coated. After the heartstopping shock wore off and he was cleaned up and OK, I started to call him waxmax. Well, the shock never really wore off...

Kalnaur 03-06-2005 12:54 AM

Kalnaur has been my username for several boards, and was derived from a book of Tolkien Elvish. According to that book, I seem to remember my name meaning something along the lines of "Light Fire" or "White Fire".

Yes I am a geek. And . . . ? ;)

lordpoopshank 03-06-2005 07:46 AM

Lordpoopshank - just sounds damn funny

jhkayakr 03-06-2005 05:13 PM

With the exception of the brother in law, that's very similar to my name. Killconey was a ferret lieutenant in Cluny the Scourge's army in the book Redwall. I had just finished reading the book when I first used the name for my AOL in seventh grade and I've kept with it ever since.

absolut_paris 03-07-2005 06:30 AM

i used to collect the Absolut bottles after nights clubbing, then the absolut commercials (and i threw away all the bottles, lol)

oh, and guess where i live.

Gilda 03-09-2005 02:28 PM

It's my first name. When my sister and I were born, my dad didn't want to give us cutesy sound-alike names that some twins get, so my sister--she was born first--got the traditional first daughter family name from my mom's family--Kathleen--and I got Gilda. Gilda is one of my Dad's favorite movies, and he wanted a name that was uncommon without being too strange. Gilda hasn't been in the top 1000 girl's names in decades, but was nicely feminine, and that it came from a movie he loved was a big bonus. I love the name.

lindseylatch 03-09-2005 07:00 PM

My first name is Lindsey...and the first syllable of the American pronunciation of my name is Latch.
And since I'm not really concerned about stalkers, my last name is Latiolais. It's Cajun-French. I bet only the Canadians and absolut can pronounce it properly (and onesnowyowl, since she's recieved tutoring).

ziadel 03-09-2005 07:27 PM

Got sent to LaSalle institute for 8th and 9th grade as I was doing nothing in school. Parents figure military school would motivate me. Met a brother there, Brother Steve, he ran the school bookstore, and taught the dumb math class to the really dumb kids

anywho, I reminded him of a friend of his who passed several years prior to my arrival, the friends last name was ziadel.

so he called me ziadel.

the name kinda came to represent almost a split personality with me, I was a very different person when I was at LaSalle, I hated the stupid place, was pissed off constantly and just wanted to generally cause hurt to almost everyone in the place when I was there. I came to realize later on in life, that rage like that, while really unhealthy was a great motivating force.
so I keep the name to inspire myself, to recapture the drive.

kramus 03-09-2005 07:54 PM

In high school a group of fellows called ourselves "The Clique" because we got such a kick out of all the different cliques there were. We figured we needed clique names so we referred to each other by our given names backwards. One day it was announced that my name had to be classier, and seeing as several guys were taking Latin they dubbed me Kramus. When I joined WetCanvas.com the name was right there for me, and I brought it over to TFP because. Here is my ongoing contribution to WetCanvas. (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/showthread.php?t=241937)

HeAtHeN 03-09-2005 08:52 PM

I'm a huge Bowie fan. When I discovered TFP Bowie's CD "Heathen" was out.... liked it so much I use it as my avatar.

Squishor 03-09-2005 09:36 PM

Well, I am a little bit of a personage someplace else on the internet, sort of a big fish in a small pond. One day on that other website someone asked what my occupation was and I replied, "Mattress Destructor! Pillow Squishor!" I'm not very big so it was really a joke, although on that other site nobody has seen a picture of me (unlike here) so they don't know that.

When I came here I wanted a completely new name that I hadn't used before so I called myself Squishor as a humorous reference to a joke that very few people got.

bigelow 03-11-2005 10:24 AM

I used to plant trees back in 1975 (yes I am that old) and one of our crew members started calling me Bobby Bigelow(my first name is Bob) after one of the characters on The Waltons. It kinda stuck while I was working there. It's an obscure reference at best and fits perfectly for any anonymity I might desire.

longbough 03-11-2005 11:13 PM

Longbough is the name of Benicio Del Toro's character in "Way of the Gun." That's one of the few films that accurately shows proper gun handling and tactics. It's not perfect but it's as close as Hollywood gets to reality - Take a good look at the way they clear the building at the end of the film - sheer poetry. They also properly cover each other and chamber-check their pistols (even did a one-handed chamber check when wounded). I loved those little details.

Longbough also happens to be the real name of the man known as The Sundance Kid.

rhaevyn 03-13-2005 08:39 PM

I love ravens. "The Raven" by Poe is my favorite poem. So I took the word "raven" and altered the spelling a bit.

ChasingAmy 03-13-2005 10:55 PM

Mine is taken from the movie with the same name. Liked the movie and I wanted a new screen name at the time.

Pretty boring huh?

cellophanedeity 03-17-2005 08:09 AM

I get all of my usernames by opening up the dictionary repeatedly and pointing. I do this until I get something that sounds good.

Afterword, I made up all sorts of BS about what it could mean. What else could you expect from a lit student?

hambone 03-17-2005 08:16 AM

Mine is just based off of one of the Deep Thoughts by Jack Handy:

"If you saw two guys named Hambone and Flippy, which one would you think liked dolphins the most? I'd say Flippy, wouldn't you? You'd be wrong, though. It's Hambone."

Scorps 03-17-2005 08:59 AM

Well mine was given to me by DoD players (Day Of Defeat a half life 1 mod) My team would all get together to rush the last flag of the map and i was always in front, my name was just pain at the time so the started saying here somes the pain train and well it stuck:D

wolf 03-17-2005 11:32 AM

This is a bit drawn out but here goes:

Have you ever seen something and just been totally amazed? Have you ever been somewhere you probably shouldn't and had one of those experiences that if you talk about them you would feel like everyone would think you were nuts?

OK, well when I was a kid my parents took me to the zoo. We saw everything there is too see in the zoo, until we came upon the wolf den. One of the zookeeper said that the wolves just didn't want to come out, so I walked up to the fence and just sat down quietly and stared into the den, my parents started to tell me to come along and see other stuff, when all of the sudden one of the wolves stuck their head out of then den and just looked at me. Our eyes locked and he or she, not sure which, just walked over to me and sat down. Then all of the other wolves came and sat down next to him. They just stayed there looking at me and me at them. I wasn't scared, just fascinated. My mother was amazed, I wish I could have touched them, but the zoo keeper wouldn't let anyone put their hands through.

Then a few years later I was camping way up north in Canada, I totally can't remember where. Anyway at night I was alone by the fire and went for a walk, there was a full moon so I could see. I went down by the water and just sat quietly. What looked like a wolf, it could have been a coyote, came out of the woods, walked up close to me and just sat down about 2 or 3 feet from me. He looked at me and me at him, and we just sat. I swear I could hear him breathing. He laid down after a while and I just sat still. I was a little afraid, but something told me that he wasn't going to hurt me, so I just stayed. About 30 minutes passed, he got up, walked over nugged his head against my arm, I scratched his ear and he took off. The fur felt so thick, like a rug and smooth. I went back and my friends were freaking out, thinking I had wandered off somewhere and gotten lost. I wanted to tell them what happened but knew they just wouldn't get it.

I have always felt drawn to wolves, I still dream about them all of the time. I have dreams that I am running through the woods with them. Once I found wicca, I knew immediately that I had found the religion for me. Even when I am just walking quietly through the woods, I feel a hum, or a buzz. I love nature and I love animals. My cat is totally drawn to me and always has been even though my wife is the one who feeds her.

So, when I joined boy scouts we wanted to come up with code names, they named me wolf because I could see really well at night and I am totally affected by the full moon (I never sleep on a full moon). I was in lodge # 393 of the Order of the Arrow (Native American off shoot of boyscouts) so on the web I am refered to as wolf, wolf393, greywolf, or greywolf393, since in boyscouts I was surrounded by nature and loved it.

Molo 03-17-2005 11:55 AM

Years ago I had a really bad screen name for chat rooms and e-mail addresses and such that I really didn't enjoy, and only had it because I couldn't think of anything better at the time.

Then a couple buddies from school kept nagging me to play Unreal Tournament with them, but they said the only way I could is if I could get a better screen name. It took me over a week to think of something.

It happened when I was watching a the learning channel (back in the awesome days before all this home renovation stuff), where they were talking abouts weaponry and such. They briefly mentioned a Molotov Cocktail. So that became my name for a while. The only problem was, on the score sheet in UT, it was pretty long and would sometimes cover my score, so I shortened it down to just Molotov.

Now for simplicity I usually just go with Molo. However when people ask, I rarely give the above story, I usually just say it's from the Russian General, or from the Spanish band.

* As a side note: During my days of playing UT, I had played with the guys from TBA a couple of times, and even Halx himself at least once, on some random servers. It was because of TBA that I actually found these forums long ago, just for the longest time I never posted.

ironmaiden7o7 03-17-2005 12:27 PM

I liked the band IronMaiden a lot when I was younger, and have been using the screenname ever since. The 7o7 comes from me being creative and I tell myself that it means 'you're my inspiration.'

The5thCandidate 04-07-2005 01:39 PM

In the late fall of '85 the Canadian government started a top secret project called The Experimantal Network, or TEN. The project headquarters was in an extremely remote region of the Northwest Territories, above the arctic circle, and there were ten other secret facilities across the country, one in each of the ten provinces. I was in the New Brunswick facility. There are nearly no records left of what the project was designed for, and my memories of my time at the facility are poor at best, but I've managed to learn a few things about TEN. From waht I've gathered so far, one child was chosen in each province, before birth, and given a number once chosen. Once born, then child was put through a number of tests and experiments, along with extreme training in a number of fields. These children began to grow into very skilled and powerful people. IQ's averaged 189, reaction time was phenominal, physical strength was remarkable. There are no records at all of what the project was designed for, or what these children were intended for, and in the winter of 2000 the project was abandoned. The ten children of TEN, now all fifteen years old, went through a memory wiping process and then were given false memories and placed with fabricated families. According to the government the whole project never happened, the secret facilities were destroyed, and the lives of the ten children were wiped from the records. I was New Brunswick, child number five, the fifth candidate of TEN.
