ya that's right. I knew something like that happened. Wasn't it at Johnson's Ranch too? what a dork. When one of our guys does manage to get the guts to say something like that (like Cretin) he gets slapped all over.

I think that given all his foibles, Trudeau was the only guy who could give as good as he got, and get away with it. Probably because nobody could understand that they were being dissed.

George Chuvalo is a great Canadian
Rich Little
Paul Anka
Not to offend, but when Margaret Atwood was mentioned, I laughed out loud. Personally my choice for the worse Canadian writer I have read.

Terry Fox. And I'll tell you why.

Canadians don't want to be heroes.
But, Canadians wish they could make a difference, somehow, somewhere.
Canadians don't care if the world thinks this is the best place to live.
Canadians want to get up in the morning, put in a good days work, return home and be with the ones they love.
Canadians want to be proud of the sacrifices of the few, so the many wouldn't have to.
Canadians want to remember someone who stood for something once, where no one stands now.
Canadians want to know that there still are people who give a damn.

I would have liked the chance to talk to him, if only for awhile.
Just to tell him that I will remember.

Crooks, that was very well stated. Well thought out.

I am a fan of Lester B. Pearson myself. I haven't voted, but I think I will and for him.

I can understand that many peopl enjoy Don Cherry, and revere him as some kind of cultural icon, but is it really the kind of thing that reaches across social and cultural boundaries, as say compared to Stompin' Tom? I've met very few Canadian who can't sing atleast a little of one of his songs, but have met many who couldn't be bothered with hockey.. that one still makes no sense to me.

But then who'd have picked Avril for a cultural icon at that? 5 years and she'll be that girl with the tie, just like Bannarama became, uhhhh.. those 80s chicks with the big hair..

Anyways, I voted for Sir John A MacDonald. Was a toss up between him and Tommy Douglas. Both, imo, profoundly changed the future of the country (for the better), and defined who we are in relation to those obnoxious people to the south..

hiro-acid... there are a number of celebrities on the list... Avril included. Celebrity, in my mind does not factor into greatness... However, the way this is all set up, it is essentially a popularity contest.

Popularity is central to celebrity.

Did anyone watch the yelling match last night? I thought it was pretty good. Very CBC, but good. I think Ron McLean had a bit of a hard job selling Cherry to the crowd, but it was funny that Brett Hart didn't say anything the whole show...
I also didn't like Pearson's representative, and I found Melissa Auf der Maur very annoying. Ibid for Sook Yin.
I think T. Douglas has it in the bag, but am surprised at Trudeau's big jump in the standings...

Here's the quesiton, where the hell is William Shatner in all this. My gawd, he spendsfive years bringing the message of peace to the galaxy, and he doesn't even crack the top 100!

And while were on the subject, where is Alex Trebek in all this? Hm...

Seriously

I have to say David Suzuki, although I know that McDonald or Fox will win. But, as far as I'm concerned, and one of the top ten with the notable exception of Cherry are all good choices, and I would not feel bad for any of them, excepting the caveat already mentioned, to win.

Just my $.02...

I guess he is. I actually learned very little about him in school growing up. I assume he gets more press in the West, am I right? I learned about all the others at some point in school, but recall nothing of the father of medicare...

Who do you think was the best ambassador? I think Rex Murphy was probably the most educated... His arguments clearly displayed the most depth and knowledge...
