I did a bit of commuting between Gibsons and Burnaby a few years ago. The 40-minute ferry ride was ok, but the waiting for the boat sucked. If you walk on rather than drive on you'll save heaps of time. The best part of the whole trip was the crib games while on the boat.
Just like any other form of commuting, you get used to it.

If you don't mind living in a tiny town, having to take the ferry to work every day, and being assaulted from all angles by the filthy hippies that reside there, then it's the place for you. I like visiting, but by no means would I want to live there.

I think it's called the Daily Roast. They moved from one corner to the other on the main intersection of town. It was a good idea as I bet they increased their business by 50%. Good coffee and great cinnamon rolls (tho' they are skimping on the icing of late). It is amazing considering how slow the economy is up there that people still have money for a $3 coffee.
