Oh my god, I grew up at a time when D&D just was starting and my friends were all playing it. that is so on the mark. I remember one time I asked to sit in just to see what it was like. Here were all these geeky kids sitting around talking about their 19th level ranger or 20th level wizard and the like. Needless to say I only sat in once.

I know what you mean capt. My first came was the same way. A bunch of geeks with their high level characters arguing for hours on end about some stupid rule. Needless to say. I didn't attend another game sesson with those guys.
