Beer ... what's your brew?
From coast to coast I beleive that Canada has some of the finest brew around. What's your brand? Do you remember the day it went from the icky tasting drink you drank to be cool to the refreshing taste sensation that it is?
Some of my personal favs are: Molson Canadian (when I want to drink a bunch) Keiths (Love the taste, find it a little heavy to drink all night) Moosehead (First beer I ordered under age in a bar, it was "My beer" for a long time. |
Labatt Blue mostly
But there is this great Honey Lager at Earls that i really liked last time i was there, its a house beer. |
I guess you could say im not a beer enthusiest yet. I mainly just drink molsons.
|
being Nova Scotian I think it's wrong to not be a Keith's drinker.... all night long
|
being nova scotian... I hate keiths..but it was the first bar I was ever in..
Ummm, now a days I usually have some Corona in the fridge, maybe some Kokanee once in a while..Coors is what I used to drink a lot of..that or Blue. |
Not being Nove Scotian and never being there, I don't know why my beer of choice is Alexander Keith's. But it is.
|
La Fin du Monde..
One of Canadas finest from the "Other" province.. |
Stella Artois, as i am british and it is such a fine brew!
|
whatevers on special that night  lol
pretty much wathevers already been mentioned is what i drink  (except for the french and british ones..lol) |
Domestic beer = Keith's
Import = Tiger or Tusker |
depends, been liking wild rose brewery's beer right now (based out here in Calgary)
Other than that I almost always drink Big Rock... can you easterners even get Big Rock? imports? I'm kinda partial to Qingdao outta china:) |
Gotta love that keith's. Best beer for a sit down and a steak.
|
Keiths. I'm from the west coast, too.
|
alot of keiths fans out here? hehe
my fridge is stocked full of heineken at the moment.. but i hafta admit keiths is among my favorites.. sometimes i like to sit down to a few kokanees with my NFL sunday though :) |
Usually Sleemans, either Honey Brown, Steam or Premium Light
|
for Canadian beer I'm a fan of Sleemans. Thier new Amber Ale is awsome.
Favourite overall though would be Stella Artois. Top notch. |
My favorite ever is Whistler Mother's Pale Ale, if I'm out and about though I'll get Sleeman's Honey Brown or Cream Ale.
|
Anything but O'Douls
|
Québec has some really fine brews, such as La Maudite.
|
I'm not a big beer drinker. My fave is Baileys on the rocks.
Wine'll work too, a nice chardonnay or reisling. |
Granville Island Brewery!
|
Granville Island Brewery is the best, i have a fridge full of it
|
The Granville Island Maple Lager is unbelievable (it's new.). But my favourite brews are the Wild Rose brews. I'm partial to the Brown, but they brew the house beer at The Kilkenny pub in Calgary called 'Double Arrow' and it's excellent too.
As for Quebequois beers, the Blanche de Chamblis is the best of the Unibroue bunch, followed closely by Trois Pistoles. Canadian microbrews are brilliant. |
domestic -Keith's
import - Guinness! |
any one of these..........and i don't mind the girl's light in there either.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...n/DSC02188.jpg |
I'll take the top shelf on the door to start and one of the sleemans on the bottom there to help with the dry mouth.
Nice shot Fly. |
Granville Island Brewery!
lmao yar.. i need to try the stuff still.. al, when we gonna go! blahhhhh |
Sleeman's Pale Ale, Sleeman's Honey Brown, Molson Export.
|

sounds like a plan.........just save a bit of the smoke for me eh!!!! gonna grab a guinney i think. |
Took me a while to figure out what that was..for a couple minutes I was thinking "why would he have a bag of broccoli mixed in with alcohol in a minifridge??"
then common sense hit me |
Being from Montreal, I naturally favor Quebec microbreweries, such as Unibroue.
1) Blanche de Chamblis 2) Trois Pistoles 3) La Maudite 4) La Fin du Monde |
my current fave Creemore Springs ...
|
mine would be Guiness.
But, I also like Keith's, Rickards Red, and Corona |
I'll drink anything and im not joking. But if I'm buying I used to go for molsons but now that they've merged with coors ill never drink it again (filthy fucking traders). ya bill buy keiths or moosehead (both great). Nothing beats finding some one who brews there own guiness, I found this guy whos been brewing his own "guiness" for like 30years and man that stuff is almost better then what youd get in ireland.
|
I drink alot of Granville Island brews, plus Kokanee and some McEwan's Scotch Ale.
|
along with keiths i love a good guiness as well. dark beer really sits well in my stomach.
|
If I am anywhere other than here (SE United States) I drink Fat Tire, Ft Collins, Colorado. At home, my beer of choice is New Castle or something similar. So long as it's English and brown, then I'm liking it.

We can get Big Rock (well, Trad, Warthog, Grasshopper and a couple others) at some specialty stores, but this gem of the west is largely unknown (and would otherwise be unappreciated) in the land o'Keiths. :P |
Whatever is in the fridge. Seriously I like to support a local brewery called Troegs in Harrisburg, PA and buy that whenever I can.
|
Keith's is the best...then Blue...then I go for imports.
|
not a big fan of blue...
that honey brown is good stuff whenever you're in the mood for something a bit different. full sail is my favorite brew overall, but i think that is an oregon make. |
I like Other People's beer. (old joke) anyway...
Lately it's been Labatts Genuine draft but Kokanee is my regular beer. For imported beer it's Heineken or Corona. I'll take bud over beer other than 35+ degree summer days or while I barbecue. |
Tiger is a really nice beer, and for imports I also like the Faxe Strong, cus nothing beats a 8.4% beer that tastes great.
For Canadian I'd have to go with Granville Island or Herman's, which is made locally in Victoria, Its a fantastic dark beer. For getting shitfaced which is still fun in the early 20's, Faxe is my preference, because at $2.07 for a 500mL can of 8.4% nothing beats it. Although a mountain of Kokanee or a Bubba is always fun to bring to a party. |
Corona, then BLUE. moosehead and bud suck bigtime.Would somebody please put that Alexander Keith guy out of his misery?
|
Prosequence, you know I'll drink anything but if I'm at the store it's Kieths or Moosehead. I was out with some people last night whilst vacationing in Ont and had some sort of honey ale that was really smooth and refreshing. I can't remember the brand but it sells for a dollar a bottle at the Beer Store (plus deposit) and for the price it is hard to beat.
|
been diggin' good 'ol moosehead as of late............tasty freakin' beer.
|
Gotta say Club.
|
If I'm drinkin to get drunk, Canadian does it for me, though sometimes I'll switch to Sleemans pale or Coors Light.
Now, if I want to enjoy it, then it's one of the following: Just about anything from Unibroue (La Fin du Monde, Trois Pistoles, etc) Guiness, but for the love of god, not the bottled stuff. Old Speckled Hen Creemore (especially on really hot days) |
Sleeman's Cream Ale or Kokanee
|
Quote:
Faxe is a great beer I recommend it highly. |
Heineken, Labatt Blue, Corona, and a whole lot of Jack
|
Keith's, Guiness Extra Stout, MGD, Coors
|
From Nova Scotia - Moosehead Green by the bottle
|
1) Sleeman's Dark Ale
2) Sleeman's Cream Ale 3) Muskoka Cream Ale 4) Cameron's Auburn (from toronto) 5) Kilkenny's (for foreign content) |
me being the calgarian too, I will drink Big Rock Trad left and right. Fo Course no canadian pub crawl or binge drink would be the same without Keith's.
But By far, Big Rock traditional takes the cake. Nothing beats this stuff |
Keiths has been a preferred choice since the age of 15, But I'd be hard pressed not to call guiness the favourite
|
I'd like to add Big Rock, Traditional Ale. Big Rock is in Alberta. Good Canadian beer.
|

Lakeport Pilsner is good to. Wait a minute. Yup, it's good too. |
I used to like Old Style, Kokanee and High Test, (when I did buy beer that is).
These days, I don't buy much commercial beer because I make my own instead, which I enjoy better. If I have to buy beer at all now, I usually go for Rickard's Red. (It reminds me of university, where we had Rickard's on tap in the Grad Centre. Good place for a pint.) |
Gonna have to with Keith or Kokanne.
|
Wild Rose Rasberry ale, Pilsner, Lucky.
|
Kokanee was my beer out west but in Ontario its Canadian
|
NOTHING LIKE BLUE !!!!!!
|
creemore springs, hands down...
and lucky lager, lakeport, or laker when its on sale for a buck a bottle...HELLO!! |
I usually go for Kokanee, but if i'm feeling rich I LOVE Killkenny...
|
LOVE Creemore, an Ontario product!!
|

Why have I not heard of it then? |
I'm a Kieth's man myself. But recently, a friend of mine said that she thought Kieth's has an aftertaste like semen. I wouldn't really know. But has anybody else heard of this?
|
When I'm in the Eastern Townships (Lennoxville, QC) -- Lion's Pride (microbrew).
When in Halifax -- Propeller all the way (another local brew). Finally, when chillin in Montreal -- Raspberry Blonde @ Brewtopia on Crescent St. |
|
As a born and raised Pennsylvania girl, it's really hard to get me away from the Yuengling Lager (no it's not Chinese! haha). Been loyal to that one for most of my legal drinking career. That said, there is a brewery out of Vermont, Magic Hat. For some reason it's really hard to find down here in VA, but I've loved every beer I've tried outa there. I beleive "Love Potion #9" was my favorite.
|
Hey flyman that is the perfect fridge 3 different kinds of beer and a big bags of weed!
|
Don't any of you drink "Bavaria". Haven't any of you been swayed by the
"Red Bikini Commercial" ????? |
Never was a huge fan of beer, but when I drink it:
Molson Canadian Big Rock (Grasshopper is what I usually have) Sol/Corona (they're the same thing anyways) Molson 6.0 Cold Shots I still have to try Stella Artois. |
Even though I'm from Canada, I do find myself enjoying Fosters as a beer. It really quenches the thirst and gets you buzzed fast. Damn, them Aussies know how to make a good beer.

So true...same stuff all the time gets boring! |
Granville Island, Sleemans, Kokanee...
|
i have a granville island tshirt. The comemorative brew or anniversairy brew. mmmmmm
|
stella artois, fosters, kokanee.
Working in a Nova Scotia bar I get weird looks when people find out I HATE Keiths, does bad things to my stomach. |
1st place - Kokanee Gold
2nd place - Harp 3rd place - Canadian |
Guinness and KilKenny for import, and not just in small doses.
I like "La Belle Gueule - Originale" here in Québec and I agree that "La Blanche de Chambly" is one of the best from Unibroue. Other than that, Molson Ex in night club. |
After playing hockey beer - Keiths
Cottage Beer - Upper Canada, Bavaria In my house right now - Carlsberg What I like on tap - Carlsberg Red |
wI like seet sweet, Schooner. As a matter of fact, its time to sink another ship. (J Stew)
Or moose red : ) |
Labatt Crystal!
|
Everyday drink - Alexander Keiths
Feeling different - Rickard's Red Already drunk, cheap - Kokanee Hot summer day - Corona Mmm, beer. |
Sleeman's Honey Brown for domestic, Newcastle Brown Ale for import.
|
Any TFP members in Toronto should really check out "Al's Cask Ale" at C'est What AND "Best bitter" at the Granite (Eglinton and Mt. Pleasant). If you haven't tried these then you are missing out.
As far as non micro-brew, then I'll have to go with St. Ambroise Apricot Wheat Ale. |
Maudite!! have some with tortiere; your basic French Canadian Christmas Eve meal
|
On the subject of beer, anyone know of any brands still being bottled in stubbies?
|
I know I'm a bit late getting in to this thread but I haven't seen either of my choices mentioned here. I'm a bit confused though, with all the Maritimers that have posted here it seems like nobody has heard of Olands. My first choice will be the tall boat (Schooner), and second will be Oland's Red Label.
Bottoms up!!! |

I have bought Red Cap in stubbies, but they were screw top, so not the real mccoy. Last week i bought a micro brewery pale ale (Mill Street Ale) which is in stubbies. These ones are NOT screw top. So they are authentic (re?) creations. I really like them. The LCBO had them or you could pobably go and buy them at the Distillery District (on Mill Street - in Toronto) |
Big Rock anything. Traditional, Warthog, McNally's, it's all great. Old style traditionally brewed ales and lagers with no preservatives.
Not that it's the only one. Granville does the same, so does about 100 other small breweries across Canada, I just like Big Rock because it's more local to where I live (Calgary) and I've been drinking Big Rock since the first batch hit the stores. Try it, you'll like it. |
I loved Granville Island brew, I even have the t-shirt, although it is getting a little small, and tight...
|
Rainier Ale aka "Green Death"
|
i usually drink keith's, just yesterday i saw someone drinking "upper canada" never seen or heard of it before :hmm:
|
while I'm not much of a beer drinker, i do like moosehead, Labatt blue, and of course Molson Canadian
|
I'm not canadian...but when in canada I drink wildcatt
|
haha, whoops I didnt notice this was the Canada forum. In that case it would have to be Labatt Blue. :D
