Ahh, yes. Canadian Tire Money... probably the most pervasive rewards program in Canada (I say this with NO citable sources whatsoever).

Personally, I'm sitting on a cool $13.65 with no particular purchase in mind, but I once was a regular donor to a friend of mine. At the time, he thought he would save up for a large screen television, but I convinced him to buy a four-person tent (for about $200) instead and get the TV somewhere a little more reputable. He tells me it took the poor girl there over half an hour to count out the Canadian Tire Money.

I love Canadian Tire Money!! I had my first trip to Canadian Tire last month. I didn't get to explore the store much, but it seems pretty sweet. I'm sitting here at work looking at my $1.00 and $0.10 Canadian Tire Money posted on my cork board. I hope to someday have enough to buy something with it ;) Although I'll keep these two, sentimental reasons you see :D

I just usally throw mine in a drawer or something, most I have ever had was like 50 bucks..ferget what I bought..but usually i just save it up till i have about 10 bucks and use it then.

It comes in denominations of $0.05, $0.10, $0.25, $0.50, $1 and $2 (note: all in bills). There are numerous designs for each denomination. There's even a FAQ (who knew?) --> http://www2.canadiantire.ca/CTenglish/ctmoney.html

Although it does suck when yer in line and the cashier has to count like 100 bucks in that money tho..takes for ever..

I try to use mine when no one is in line

I've got probably $30 stuffed in various jacket pockets and drawers, I haven't actually used it to buy anything though.

Your not a Canadian until you have some CT cash in your pocket, purse, wallet or house.

My dad has over 300$ in that stuff, he doesnt use it, just tosses it around and I basically collect and count the stuff. Im trying to convince him to buy a nice toy with it. Perhaps a bbq set?:D

Over the course of my life id say ive had about 5 cents canadian tire money, so yeah.. no use for it here

I have a jar full of the stuff... probably $60 or $70 worth... Just waiting for the right time to spend it...

Canadian Tire money is only good if you aren't an employee. I worked at a CT here in London for a year and a half (up until last July), and if you use your employee discount (a whopping 12% :P) then you don't get any CT money. But theres always lots that customers would drop on the ground :D

This is the greatest loyalty program around. Most Canadians have some, few use it and all talk about it. If only Air Canada was this lucky.

Forget the cash, get a Canadian Tire Credit Card, you get twice as much on the card at the pumps as you do with paper!

When I make a purchase, I put the CT money in my wallet. When I make another purchase, I spend the CT money first. So it doesn't build up. Why have a lot of CT money in "inventory"?

What bugs me is that they used to give 4% for using cash as a reward for using cash. Now, it's like 2% and they give more rewards for using credit. They used to be beneficial to society, encouraging people to not use credit. Now, they just want to rob as much of your money as they can!

Maybe it's just the way people think. "I need 25.99 to buy these rubber boots, and I have only 21.45 in CT money. Just a little more to save before i can buy it" As it's legal tender in canadian tire stores, perhaps we don't see it as coupons or think we can mix currencies.

Meh, the service at CT is so bad that I rarely shop there. They are more expensive than the local hardware store here and force you to buy two of something when you only want one.
That said, if I do buy something there, it's on my credit card so I never get CT money.

I've got a couple bucks in my car at all times. Usually just from getting gas and stuffing it in the glove box.

Being a CT employee, I always have a stash of it on hand.
As for its popularity, citing my training site: Canadian Tire 'Money' is the number one redeemed promotion in the world as well as the longest running promotion ever. Through my dad, apparently ~95% of all canadian tire money that is given out, comes back too a store.

Its truely wonderfull stuff.

damn you guys must be long time collectors of the stuff!!! i buy all my gas at CT to help out them Candians, plus the 2 bucks a fill is pretty nifty too, so far i have about 18 dollars or so in CT money in my room.

My brother used to work at a car dealership and he filled up with CT gas all the time with the dealership cars and poketed the C money. I think he pulled in about 80 bucks worth a month! not a bad bonus eh!!

And speaking of CT i actually work at the warehouse that distributes to all western canada.. so next time you westerners buy something i might have been the one to ship it out! I should start initaling some stuff and you guys can tell me if you get any of it! haha

I dont know if this was one of those co-workers rumors, but during a bullshitting session once we were talking about CT $ and one guy said a bar in town accepted CT $.
I guess if the owner liked the store why not?
I just wonder if the bartenders didnt mind CT in tips? :)

I've made some small purchases in the past with my canadian tire money. Right now I have about a buck fifty sitting in my purse. :D

Also being a CT employee, I picked up this little trick during the summer.

1) Take all of your CT money and buy a gift card
2) Fill up with gas at your local CT gasbar
3) Pay with gift card

See, for those of you unfamiliar the CT gasbar doesn't accept CT money for whatever reason. So there's a loophole for you

when i lived in Barrie, the Towers Gas Bar and the Towers store gave out coupons very similar to the CT money. the Mcdonald's next door would honour these like cash at par. it was great because I was an employee at Towers and people from Toronto would decline thier coupons when they got gas. So at the en dofthe day, I could go to McD's and feast like crazy!

The Canadian Tire was further down the road, I bought a pair of snowshoes with CTmoney. :cool:

Those 5X/6X/7X/8X coupons ROCK! Man oh man, nothing makes the CT money pile up faster than those babies.

And seriously, CT has stuff that EVERYONE needs, even if it's just dish detergent and those should-be-disposable nylon beach chairs.

I was there on the weekend and actually had a hard time spending my CT money when I couldn't use it for the entire purchase (I only had about $5.25 on me in CT money). So I kept the money in my pocket and used debit for the whole bill. How sad I am. :o

I heard that you can drop it off at the front desk and have them count it for you while you shop (if you are spending a bit of money).

I like the idea of buying a good hockey stick though....I think I have $50 worth under my piggy bank.

What is the 5x coupons people are talking about? I've never seen them.

You can only use them when buying gas, so your Canadian Tire might not have a gas bar

We don't have a crappy tire with a gas bar here in Victoria, BC. I have seen the CT gas bar in the metropolis Thunder Bay, Ont though.

How much do you have to spend per $1 of CTM?
