Best Candian band?
 

I have alot of favourites when it comes to Canada and music. I know I'm always pulling for The Hip and Barenaked Ladies. What about you? Which bands in Canada turn your crank?

The Hip are the best band in Canada in my opinion.

Neil Young, The Tea Party, Big Sugar (no split), The Watchmen (also split) are all great as well. I'm sure I'm forgeting a few.

I loved the Headstones, before they broke up last year :(

Rush are alright. Never really got into em' though. And the Headstones were a great band as well.

Nickleback and Default though get the thumbs down from me. Sorry Averett, but it's true.

An up and comer for this thread could be The Spades. They sound pretty rockin from what I've heard. I think thier cd comes out soon.

Oh and I forgot all about Sam Roberts. Definitly has to be included here.

Biff Naked without a doubt but I really dun know much bout music so tis without a doubt for me only

I'm gonna have to chime in with the Hip as well, they are the quintessential Canadian band. Barenaked Ladies come close in second though.

What no one mentioned Finger Eleven or Mudmen?!

The Hip in the same plane as Nicklefault?!? You obviously just don't get it. How can you lump the Hip in with these others? Obviously Gord and the boys have more class than to fly around with trash like Kroger, it could never happen. ;)

What no Anne Murray or Alanis? Naw I gotta go with the Hip. Utronki Road is pretty good.

The Barenaked Ladies annoy me, the Headstones Hugh Dillon is the Canadian version of Scott Weiland in rehab, out, back in again....., Sam Roberts, I played hockey with the drummer and went to school with guitar player, hate the band they are so bad and Sam Roberts needs to wash sometimes he looks like a homeless person.

I really like Broken Social Scene and Metric, glad to see someone else supporting real indy music.

Has anyone ever heard of Nathan Wiley, from PEI?

Oh ya, add Hawksley Workman and Sloan to the group. Also, Moist, The Odds and I mother Earth all had some good tunes in thier day.

I also add a vote for BNL. I'm going to see them in two weeks with Alanis Morrisette.

And just to get under some of your skins, the only act worse than the Hip is Ryan Malcolm, the Canadian Idol. Baaaaaaaaahhhh.. I think I'm the only person in the world (Canada) to walk out on those hacks when they played under an assumed name at A.J's Hangar in Kingston. Just fucking dreadful. I'm done now.;)

I can't believe no one's named "Great Big Sea" fantastic high-energy band out of Newfoundland....

And of course...Bif Naked, BNL, Lorenna Mckennit (but that's a whole other type of music!)

I read through this thread again and realize how much I hate almost every single band or individual thats been listed

I guess when you don't like alternative rock, indy, emo, pop, and country... you're kinda SOL when it comes to canadian music

Classic Rock, Heavy Metal mostly

It's not like there aren't good canadian bands in those genres, I was simply stating about the groups which have been listed here, besides the ones I already said I didn't mind in my earlier post

Stabilo is my favorite canadian band right now. My good friends brothers is the manager, so I got hooked through him.

Saw Danko Jones in a small club and they blew the roof of the place. Solid band.

Forgot Max Webster too.

The intro to one of his two songs that is played endlessly on the radio (don't know the title) sounds exactly like the intro to Led Zeppelins "Jennings Farm Blues."

I really like a lot of canadian bands. But my absolute favorite would have to be...
