Canada Day - July 1st
So what are your plans for this Thursday and are you planning on taking Friday off as well?
I'm not sure what I'm going to get up to but I will probably go see some fireworks at Ashbridge's Bay with my kids... ...as for Friday, I'll probably plod into work and take off early (because there will be nobody there except the receptionist and me...) |
Well living in Ottawa means I must attend the biggest party in the country. I will be downtown on the hill or in the market with the rest of my friends, drinking way too much beer, spending way too much time on patios, and just generally having a great time.
As for Friday off, I booked it off about a month ago :D |
Work? Fuck that...I'll be sockeye fishing on the West coast of Vancouver Island.
|
Funny, I went to Canada last year over the 4th of July holiday and I'm doing the same this year. But I didn't plan well enough to spend Canadas independence day in the country. But I'll be spending my Independency Day in Canada.
Okay, this post makes no sense. Anyway, I'll be in New York. But Sunday the 4th I'll be in Canada. I'm backwards. |

I like that.. For the US it's an independance day, for us, its a birthday ;) |

Damnit. I knew that. Somebody needs to take my honorary Canadian card back. I'll have to re-earn it :(

Did all the Canadian Provinces join up on July 1st? *Not by a long shot. Did we become independent on July 1st? *No, not really. Did we become a country on July 1st? *Sort of, but we were still a British colony. So when did Canada become an indepentent country? *No one can really say. July 1st 1867, is the day when the idea of Canada was born. There is no definitive date in history where you can say "Canada is now a country." It was a long series of events that are still going on. |
I like to think it was in 1982 when we (finally) repatriated the Constitution and signed the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms?
Though really that was just the icing on the cake... |
We're barbequing of course - the annual ritual. This year it's at a friend's place in Barrie, so we'll be trekking over there.
And yeah, we're off Friday too! |
I'll be working. But only 'til 6:30, and I work about 5 minutes away from Parliament Hill. I'll probably have a few beers and stick around for the fireworks, but not too late, I work the next morning.
|
I, as usual will stay away from Parliament Hill. Doesn't mean me and friends won't be pounding beers watching the fireworks from the shoreline of the Ottawa River. Then it will be 2 skips south to Bells Corners or 3 steps west to Kanata.
|
Well, looks like I'll be in Ottawa. Just booked a couple of cheap flights there and back again.
|
I'll be celebrating with some good Canadian dope. Though not really Canadian there'll probably be a good amount of my liquid candy, Captain Morgan's Dark Spiced Rum. I'm gonna celebrate in style, then end up in a ditch somewhere passed out. Or just play video games and eat at least five peanut butter sandwiches. WOO.
|
I'm not sure what the hell to do with myself for the morning, but i'm going out dancin Thursday night... maybe i can stumble myself to find some fireworks i'm not sure. Yay Vancouver! :D
|
I will be working, but only because I will get paid double time and a half. I can always party after work, not too late though, I think I am going for a drive the next morning. Might have to make a last minute trip to Niagara.
|
yay work.. yup thats where I'll be.. Afterwards I'll be resting, relaxing, and waiting for an amazing weekend
|
I'll either be drinking in Vancouver, or Drinking in Kamloops
all depends |
I'll be having a big-ass bbq at my house on thursday. The group of us have already spent about $400 in fireworks. We decided to go all out this year.
On Friday I'll be teeing off at 7:56AM. |

Golf sounds like a great idea. Maybe I will take the morning off and get in a couple of rounds. I will call the club right now and see if I can get a tee time.
|
Maybe we should start a Canadian Golf thread discussing some of our favourite courses and whatnot :)
|
Consider it done.
hmmm looks like i'm working thursday and friday :( fuck it i'm going to bring canada day to work! Get flags out, ummm Hey any of you have any ideas how to make a boosterjuice store more patriotic? |
what is boosterjuice anyhow? I've seen them before but not been in one.
|
There's no fireworks in Vancouver, totally lame :( Will probably head downtown anyways and see what there is to do. That and get toasted, nicely toasted.
|
I'll prolly be doing the most Canadian thing I can think of...
Play Hockey :D |
Boosterjuice is basically a health food franchise. We sell mainly no-fat/low-fat smoothies with real fruit, but also make fresh squeezed juices. In every smoothie you get a "booster" which is a small powdered supplement you add to the drink for specific benefits. for example, a power booster has creatine in it, which is a building block for muscle. a combo booster is like the multivitamin you take in the morning. we got a whole list of em.
you don't taste the boosters, and there's a wide variety of smoothies to choose from. All of our smoothies have a lot of carbs though, so they aren't atkins friendly. If you aren't worried about carbs and just looking for a healthy snack, the smoothies have on average 4-5 servings of fruit in them, just below the recommended daily requirement. anyways that's my schpeil on Boosterjuice. Hmmm... maybe fireworks at the store... >:) my shirt is a dark red. maybe I could staple some paper to my front and draw a maple leaf on them. |
I'm heading off to Toronto tomorrow morning and have plans to hit Ontario Place for the fireworks that evening. On the way back to Ottawa, I'll be stopping by the Sandbanks - and am looking forward to it.
