Best little icon ever.

Better if we changed the flag to something a little more contemporary.

And became a republic.

Whoa... there's about 80,000 reasons for keeping the flag I can think of, all lying 6 foot under Turkish soil.

I wouldn't vote for Republic, it'd be a waste of time and money, and we'd have to vote for a President, and it would get all politicized and silly. I would like to see the PM having less influence on the nomination of a Governer General, but otherwise I don't mind the current system.

The Royal Family may be British, but they are kinda cool in a quaint sort of way. I mean, they're not costing us anything to maintain them, so whats the big deal?

As for the flag, I'd only favour changing it if they were going to replace the Union Jack with the aboriginal flag, as someone suggested. But I'm pretty sure that the designer of the aboriginal flag was a bit hesitant to agree to add it to the Aussie flag, as it had been designed as something uniquely aboriginal, or something along those lines. So meh.

No, mate dont get me wrong. Im very much about commemoration and rememberance, especially concerning the Anzacs. I reckon that as a society we should spend alot more time looking at the past. But concerning our flag, i just think its a dead symbol. The union jack has just gotta go. I mean, the whole idea of mateship, and our anti-authoritarian nature was forged through the horror of fighting other people's battles and strongly through the influences of the large immigrant Irish population. I think in many ways we have a proud history, but the flag we have just doesnt do us jusitce.

What is it with you Victorians and the Republic? You'd have a better chance of England winning the ashes than us turning republic while Johnny/Costello are driving this thing, and NSW/Vic are labour...

Well, after the millions our Government has just thrown to Australian families (and hence the reason for my long working hours of late), sadly I believe the above statement may be true.

There's more of these election sweeteners to come, of course, and I can tell you our Government is doing a very good job of bribing Australians. They may as well have issued 'how to vote' cards with the payment advice letters.

Well I hope it has rained on you fellow champion Antipodeans that the people who are currently running the country are geniuses. We have the unique position of having politicians who are there because they love this country, not just because they are the richest people on offer.

Do us all a favour and vote Liberal.

On a side note... I love you Mexicans and all, but sucked in, Liberals will win all seats in East Melbourne (shappup Latch and the other Westie) and there's not much you can do about it )

On another side note, that Meri can ramble on and I wish he would shut right up.

As if the liberal party aren't catering to the rich.

The latest budget means that people earning over $50,000 a year will be $20 a week better off, whilst most casual workers (students, etc) will be paying $0.70 a week more in tax.

For students that struggle to find money for the bus/tram/whatever some days, it makes a difference. $20 to someone who is already comfortable isn't.

Do you think thats fair?

What I don't think is fair is that for every one of those dollars the "rich" earn, they give half to the government. So you don't think it's wise to give incentives for people to earn high incomes? They are the ones paying for this country, why not give them $20 a week. This whole 'more tax for the overachievers' shit is just leftist media crap. Change the channel, 'Neighbours' is much better than ACA, more believable too...

Mate, we don't get taxed very much on a global scale. You need taxes to make your country better. I'm so sick of this "OMGWHATSINITFORME?!" mentality everyone has with regards for politics.

If you like walking down the street and tripping over myriads of homeless people, keep it up.
