Best little icon ever.
Better if we changed the flag to something a little more contemporary. And became a republic. ;) |

If we ever change our flag im submitting that :D |
Nice find on the Crown Lager label ;)
|
What the hell do you people see in Crownies? Sorry, but the taste is lost on me.
But I'm all for a Republic! Wouldn't mind seeing this on it somewhere.... http://www.teachers.ash.org.au/thwaites/abflag.gif |

Yeah, its about time for a new flag i reckon. The old one just has no relevance anymore.
|
Whoa... there's about 80,000 reasons for keeping the flag I can think of, all lying 6 foot under Turkish soil.
|
A big hat's off to the TFP team incorporating regional forums.
The Aussie Flag is the Aussie Flag, 'nuff said. SnOoP |
the aussie flag, despite the .. err.. union jack, thats it. yeah, despite that being in there signifying the poms, theres nothing wrong with the flag.
and seriously slim, whats with you and crownies? sheesh.. love thy brew, but fuck. :p |
|
I wouldn't vote for Republic, it'd be a waste of time and money, and we'd have to vote for a President, and it would get all politicized and silly. I would like to see the PM having less influence on the nomination of a Governer General, but otherwise I don't mind the current system.
The Royal Family may be British, but they are kinda cool in a quaint sort of way. I mean, they're not costing us anything to maintain them, so whats the big deal? As for the flag, I'd only favour changing it if they were going to replace the Union Jack with the aboriginal flag, as someone suggested. But I'm pretty sure that the designer of the aboriginal flag was a bit hesitant to agree to add it to the Aussie flag, as it had been designed as something uniquely aboriginal, or something along those lines. So meh. |
Monarchy, Republic, meh. In the end we still get a politician.

It only seems fair to me.

What is it with you Victorians and the Republic? You'd have a better chance of England winning the ashes than us turning republic while Johnny/Costello are driving this thing, and NSW/Vic are labour...
|
True, but ol' headkicker and his team are promising a republic in 3 years if they get in!
(Of course, the chances of that are about the same as the ashes thing) |
Good thing Labour wont be in for the next 10 years then.
|
Well, after the millions our Government has just thrown to Australian families (and hence the reason for my long working hours of late), sadly I believe the above statement may be true.
There's more of these election sweeteners to come, of course, and I can tell you our Government is doing a very good job of bribing Australians. They may as well have issued 'how to vote' cards with the payment advice letters. |
Well I hope it has rained on you fellow champion Antipodeans that the people who are currently running the country are geniuses. We have the unique position of having politicians who are there because they love this country, not just because they are the richest people on offer.
Do us all a favour and vote Liberal. On a side note... I love you Mexicans and all, but sucked in, Liberals will win all seats in East Melbourne (shappup Latch and the other Westie) and there's not much you can do about it :)) On another side note, that Meri can ramble on and I wish he would shut right up. |
I was waiting for Ella to give her contribution before I posted a new idea for the Aussie flag. Of course, anybody could be in the flag, I just wanted to give it a bit of TFP flavour.
http://www.afx.uni.cc/aussie-flag.jpg Thanks Ella :) |
Oh...my....god.
I love it!! |
|
Labor, liberal, republican who care's as long as they dont put up the beer tax's...its too bloody deer as it is.unless your one of them rich pricks that can afford to drink a crownie...
|
I think we're pushing shit uphill with that one though arnie...
|
As if the liberal party aren't catering to the rich.
The latest budget means that people earning over $50,000 a year will be $20 a week better off, whilst most casual workers (students, etc) will be paying $0.70 a week more in tax. For students that struggle to find money for the bus/tram/whatever some days, it makes a difference. $20 to someone who is already comfortable isn't. Do you think thats fair? |
What I don't think is fair is that for every one of those dollars the "rich" earn, they give half to the government. So you don't think it's wise to give incentives for people to earn high incomes? They are the ones paying for this country, why not give them $20 a week. This whole 'more tax for the overachievers' shit is just leftist media crap. Change the channel, 'Neighbours' is much better than ACA, more believable too...
|
Mate, we don't get taxed very much on a global scale. You need taxes to make your country better. I'm so sick of this "OMGWHATSINITFORME?!" mentality everyone has with regards for politics.
If you like walking down the street and tripping over myriads of homeless people, keep it up. |

heheh, thanks.
Though I don't have the street cred John Howard has, I mean, look at the weblog Ella showed us. ;) |
Methinks Johnny needs to confer with his ministers before they make comments about the Australian public keeping money they are not entitled to...he seems to think slightly differently. Man, is that causing some ruckus in my end of the woods!!
|
I think Johnny should step aside and let the real Liberal leader take over...
|
I definately wont be voting liberal whenever this next federal election happens. They have lied too many times for my money. I really hate the way they are screwing up the education system aswell.
