RCMP Recruitment
I'm considering a career in the RCMP and I need more information. I've read the information and the requirements on RCMP Recuriting. I'm still in school, I should be finish getting my computer science diploma and I wanted to get a degree before going into the RCMP.
I thought about something relating to programming or cryptography, but I wanted something that is relevant to a career in the RCMP. I heard about the student summer program where college students or high school students can work directly with the regular members of the RCMP, I will try that first before returning to school next summer. So, my questions are, what kind of education that I could benefit in the RCMP? I'm also hard of hearing and quite frankly, I never heard of hard of hearing RCMP officers and I'm wondering if that will be a road block for me... |
I can try to answer any question you have about the RCMP. My uncle was the CO of the Surrey detachment and fourth in command of the entire force. I considered joining awhile ago, but I have never been able to master (or even talk a little of) french
|
I never spoken French, much less, written it and from what I read on the RCMP's site, it's not a big issue, is it?
|
I am contemplating this as well, but I want to get my degree in Criminology before I pursue anything in law enforcement...
I was thinking either VCPD, or RCMP... but with the RCMP they can send you to Assfuck, Nowhere for like five years.... I like living on the coast |
Speaking french is a must if you are looking to advance in the RCMP. As it does not operate as much in Ontario and Quebec (Thanks to the OPP and QPP), its not as much of an issue in the west or east..
The RCMP sending new officers to the north is getting out of date, There isnt as much need now, and new officers are specialized enough to not warrent the transfer |
my buddy is in the academy now for the rcmp....
his background is all emt stuff...... as far as im concerned college means nothing in that sort of career.....its all about actual skills....such as emt, para medic, military experience and such |

Well, I am thinking of getting into crypo at UofC
|
sounds too much like a math course for me ;)
|
perhaps, but you'll be surpised at how much demand there is for crypo people.
For example, obviously, government agency such as CSIS or CIA need codebreakers right? That's one Another would be major corporation looking to beef up their data security including IBM, Microsoft, etc. That's 2 Can't think of any other but, yeah you're right, it does empthaize on math but not so much as you think. |
It really helps to be of an ethnic group as well as the RCMP has set quotas on the number of a race they should have. This is so they can better deal with the different ethnicities of the area.
|
Yeah, if you are a white male your chances wouldn't be as good... unless they need somebody for a remote outpost on Baffin Island.

Just because an organization says that they want to have a diverse force doesnt mean there is preferential treatment, and no one gets turned away because of race, colour, or creed.. thats against the Human RIghts Act Quote:
