How to vote? (w/ bonus ww2 rant)
I have never voted, but plan to this year. The problem is that I have no idea where to go, or even when. Do I need to register anywhere? Can I do this online? Can I vote online?
Let me know please. I read an article about World War II vets, and the author stated that when he was a kid, his father took him to a cemetary where a Canadian soldier was buried. His father said to him, "If you don't give a shit enough to vote, you are coming here and telling this man that he died for absolutely nothing." This affected me deeply, as both my grandparents served in the war, and I never got the chance to thank either of them for what they did. Sorry to get off topic, just that statement moved me, and I thought someone else might read it and do the same thing I'm trying to do now. |
Where you living there at the time of the last census? Do you fill out taxes and let elections Canada get your information that way (you check Yes or No somewhere on the form).
A useful FAQ from elections.ca: http://www.elections.ca/content.asp?...textonly=false I would advise you to look up your local all-Candidates debate, show up, and find a Candidate you would be proud representing you. If you are serviced by rogers, go to: http://www.rogerstelevision.com and see if you can't find information about your local debate. Show up in person if you are keen. |
Good story about the WW2 vet. He was right on. I always said to everyone who was complaining about tax, health care etc. "Did you vote?" .....answer "Nope"...."Then you have no right to complain."

You should have already received a card in the mail (at least thats how it is in Ontario where I live), which tells you where and when to vote. Mine was a white card with red ink on it. If you haven't gotten it yet, then you must find your local elections office and sign up to do so.

I think that if you take proof of residence - ie. 2 pieces of photo ID with your address and a bill or something you can usually sign up at the voting location.

I haven't received my voter enumeration form yet. I believe if you are paying your taxes they register you for voting then. |
