2nd period Geography
Where the hell is everyone from?
I'm in Albury at the moment, although I'm still paying rent in Wagga... What about the rest (suburbs as well... we need amunition). Edit: By the way, with a bit of effort we could make this the biggest of the Geography-based forums at the TFP... we can talk way more shit than the seppos.

Im from The Blue Mountains, on the outskirts of Sydney. Im currently paying rent at Warrimoo. I was living in Penrith (pronounced Perif) about 6 months ago, and it was pretty ordinary (except my proximity to the kebab shops).

I'm a born and bred Melbourne gal (Box Hill)...moved inner city and did the St Kilda thing until a move to Tassie in '94, then QLD in '97 where I still am - inland from BrisVegas. Gettin' itchy feet again and the Northern New South Wales coast is looking mighty fine!

I live in the US, and I couldn't help but notice that most Australians (at least on the TFP) are from either Sydney or Melbourne and their suburbs. This would be akin to most Americans living around New York City and Los Angeles. I guess that it's because in Australia, most of the remaining land is uninhabitable, at least on a mass scale (desert, rainforest, etc.) Am I correct?

User Name,
thats a fair assumption. the VAST majority of Australians live within 40kms of the coast, and by that i mean the coast around the bottom half of Australia. Huge chunks of the interior ('outback') are deserts and uninhabitable regions such as the Tanami, the Simpson, the Great Sandy Desert and the Nullarbor. these places are pretty much uninhabited, not entirely though. and other places are, like you said, heavily rainforested and too wild for large settlements such as Cape York (far north) and the Gulf region. altogether, its a harsh, unforgiving land away from the coast. i also think another reason why you won't find too many Austalians from rural areas on the TFP is that they may not have adequate reliable internet access.

And I'll be joining you in about 5 months...
One question: I have a choice of living with my brother in Wynnum, or with some mates in Spring Hill... what's better?

When I lived in Wollongong I noticed that a hell of a lot of people that lived there worked in Sydney... why put up with the commuting?
