TFP Australia MEET-UP (July 2nd, 3rd, or 4th)
For people just starting to read this thread, here's a summary:
Sydney on July 2nd, 3rd, 4th weekend. Cultural Experience (That means we'll be doing touring or something similar during the day). Possible Pub Crawl that night. You don't have to attend all, you can just come to one part if you want :). Let us know in the thread if you're coming so we know to keep an eye out for you. People not from Australia are welcome to come too. If you DO decide to having a holiday down here, try to make it during the first weekend of July in Sydney  |
Hi Guys,
Just curious where in Australia everyone is? It'd be cool if we could organise a piss-up in one of the major cities. I've seen a few Sydney people, but I think I've seen more Melbourne people. Just wondering if that's an accurate guess or not. Any ideas? comments? suggestions? I'm in Geelong (hour outta Melbourne) |
Hey,
Im in The Blue Mountains, just out of Sydney. |
I'm in Melbourne's Eastern suburbs :)
|
Down in the southern suburbs of Sydney here.
A get together is a great idea. |
Perth :|
|
Catherine Fields. "Where's that?" Everyone asks that. It is this tiny littlw farming community just outside sydney near El Cabalo Blanco
|
El Cabalo Blanco!!!!
is that still operating?? btw... i'm in Sydney. |

Bought quite a few bottles of wine from there when I used to live (briefly) in the area but never grabbed the chance to sit,sip and chill on a lazy arvo with the small crowd. |

I dont know about the vineyard as I dont drink wine, but the Kum Hor chinese restaurant is still operating. El cabalo Blanco closed down many years ago but they still keep the horses there. They do some ghost tours there but I havent done one. The guy who owns it owns Gledwoodnext door. That still runs. They have all the colonial australian stuff (eg sheepshearing, damper cooking, boomerang thowing etc) for all the tourists. It is a pretty cheap day out but its pretty cool. |
I'm in Albury atm, so I can make either city.
I reckon Sydney would be the go. With a month's notice the Melbourne guys could get return flights for about $120-140, or could get a car together, pick me up on the way! I would definately back something though, maybe around July (whenever really). How many of you guys are serious about this? |
Yeah this sounds like a goer.
Who's up? What about an afternoon of sightseeing in the "Blue Mountains" followed by a few "quite ones"? Maybe a trip to Jenolan caves? I'm open to options and have car. Canberra? Will travel. |
I could probably make Sydney for a weekend. There's a new airport opening soon (Avalon) that has cheap-as flights to Sydney w/ JetStar.
I have no car.. but that doesn't matter since we'll be in Sydney anyways :) I went to the Blue Mountains last year, they're beautiful. Never heard of the Jenolan Caves. So basically, I'm open to options as well. I like the few "quiet ones" idea, no matter what we do :) Whaddya reckon? |
I was thinking Bondi, heaps to do, cheap accomodation aplenty, easy to get around. Not alot of Melb people have been to Sydney... could get another couple of posters I know to come along.
|
Where the hell is Bundy?
|
i'm here (sydney, like i said above)...
Bondi is a good idea... lots of pubs... |

If its in the uni holidays Im up for whatever is one the cards. Im useless at organising so Ill leave it up to whoeveer wants to take the pepsi challenge and make it happen. You know where to find us. :)
|
Yeah Bondi sounds OK and there are quite a few Pubs to quench the palate too.
Maybe a tour of the "Rocks"? Nothing too huge but sounds good. If things pan out I could even crash a few souls at my joint for a night if people are strapped for cash. Anyway, the offer is there if this gets off the ground so PM me you guys and we can start hatching a plan. |
I'm in the US, but I've been told that Australia is the best place to live. Pretty people, no war....is this true?
|
Ha ha, random thread crash! Cool.
Haven't been around too much so I can't compare, but I know there are no wars here. If fact, you have to really try just to find a fight. I'm 27 and I've never even seen a handgun... |
I'm contributing to the thread crash but... I'm from the States, and I now live here.. and Australia has great people.. and they don't seem as worried about what's happening out in the world.
Australia is launching a new tourism campaign, and have some new slogan for it.. can't remember what. A radio show was having people ring in and give their own version of the slogan. Someone rang up and said "Australia: Relax, have a beer." I think that sums it up perfectly. Ok.. Back on track... Uni holidays are usually late June->Mid July. So why don't we set the weekend of Saturday, the 3rd and 4th of July as the date (and maybe ask for a sticky "Meet-Up" posting in General Discussion so others can hear about it)? If this is cool w/ everyone.. say in here and we'll go from there... Oh also.. I reckon we should definitely do something more than just meet-up to drink. Tour something-or-other. Make it a cultural experience :) |

uni hols: great idea. GD sticky: great idea. cultural experience > just drinking: great idea. |
Merrick and Russo summed it up pretty well last night on TV. They said thatt people from other countries compliment australia on a number of things (sporting accomplishments, relaxed attitude, political leaders, etc) but the only compliment that we really take as something to be proud of is that we are bloody good drinkers.
|
Cultural experience in the morning (Beach cricket)
Drinking arvo/night (Bondi Rd/Coogee Bay) Have to do something for the Melb people that make their way... maybe a touro bash: Centrepoint/Opera House/Bridge climb/Ferry ride, then a pub crawl in The Rocks? What other shit can we do? |
ar, another Sydney person here. I'm up for any of this kind of thing.
|
If Latch makes us climb the bridge, we get to make him scull later on...

Mods:
Can you please move this thread to "General Discussion" and make it a sticky .... and change the title to "TFP Australia MEET-UP (July 2nd, 3rd or 4th)"? Thanks. If you want me to create a new thred in GD that you can sticky... just let me know and I'll do that. Thanks :) |

Yeah bloody expensive. Iv'e done the other one up the stairs and it only costs about $10. It's a great option cause the view is a blast. There's this nice little Pub nearby too that...................... Resist..............It's a cultural experience. |
Anybody gone on a ferry ride? Apparently a good way to spend a few hours...
|
I did a one-hour tour (may have been 1.5) on a ferry.. wasn't too bad. They do have like.. 3 hour ones.. or 3 hours + lunch or something.. not sure.
Thanks to the mods for moving this to GD and changing the title! |
Can you drink on them?
*reoccuring theme* |
The one I went on was weird.. you got a ticket for free drink.. as part of the cost of the boat ride. The beer was warm VB, not exactly my favourite hehe.

--------- This meet-up sounds like a blast. :) |
As luck would have it I'll be in Sydney on the July 3rd weekend, I think I'm staying at some hotel close to Darling Harbour.
It's gonna be pretty hectic because I'll be in Aussie for only that weekend, then flying back to Wellington (the capital of NZ). But I reckon I could turn up to this meet-up thing for a couple of hours. |
