Riddles Thread

I know there is like a daily or weekly riddle, but it's hard to find for me, so maybe if they were all in one thread. If you get the riddle correct you post one.

Here:

There is a room with a lightbulb inside, outside the room there are three switches, only one controls the light. You cannot see in the room or any light escaping the room from outside. How can you find out which switch controls the light if you are only allowed to enter the room one time?

Turn one switch on. Wait a few minutes. Turn it off. Turn on a different switch, then open door. If the light is on, you have your answer. If it isn't feel the bulb. If it is hot, it is the first switch, if not the last switch.

Turn on switch A and B for a while. Then turn off A and turn on C and enter the room immediately.

The switch in control depends on the state of the bulb:

Switch A if lamp is warm and dark.

Switch B if lamp is warm and light.

Switch C if lamp is cold and light.

Switch D if lamp is cold and dark.

Prove that in a group of six people, there are either three mutual acquaintances, or three mutual strangers.

Ok. Well bones got it first, and you answered a question involving four switches, but whatever.

What exactly is 3 mutual friends? A knows B who knows C, or A knows B who knows C, and C knows A.

I don't know if that is a proof, but if there is no green connection there must be a red one, that is because if you are not friends youre strangers, so i made green connection until it was impossible to draw anymore without making a triangle, then the rest must be connected with red, and they connect as a triangle, ???

Consider a person A. Either A knows at least 3 people, or A does not know 3 or more people. Without loss of generality (WLOG), let's assume that A knows at least 3 people. Let three of these people be B, C and D. Now, if B, C and D do not know each other, we are done. However, if even one pair does not know each other (WLOG we can assume this to be B and C), then we A, B and C know each other. Hence in a group of 6 people, we must have either 3 mutual acquaitences, or three mutual strangers.

Who's next?

Ok, so there are these crazy arabs, a dad and two sons, and the dad is trying to decide which son to leave his wealth and things to, so he comes up with the idea of a race, the rules are they race from city A to city B, and whichever brothers horse gets to city B last wins, so the brothers dont know what to do, they start on their way but theyre going slow as hell seeing as how they both want to get there last, so theyre getting nowhere, and they stop sit down and start talking about what to do, they talk it over for a while, and then suddenly they get up, both get on a horse, and speed off as fast as they can toward city B

what did they decide that made them get up and go

Guess:
The horse left behind wouldn't know that it's supposed to be headed to City B and would probably die in the desert while the two sons arrived to City B on one horse, which ended up being the last horse to arrive in City B, so they split the money (maybe the father couldn't tell the two horses apart either, which might be necessary to answer the riddle since he might want to award the money to who started out with the winning horse).

They trade horses so they're riding each other's horse. The horse that gets there first loses, but the brother that gets there first wins.

Everyday, a man that lives on the 12th floor of an apartment building takes the elevator down and goes to work. When he comes home, he rides the elevator half way and then walks the rest. He only rides all the way up when it's raining or when other people are in the elevator. Why?

It's the letter E. (although noahfor's kinda already said it).

On with a riddle...

A man is condemned to death. He is given to say a last statement; if it is truth he is hanged to death and if it is false he is poisoned. He uttered his last sentence from which he escaped. What is the last statement ?

He says: "I will be poisoned to death"

If they poison him then the statement was true, which means that he should have been hanged, but if they hang him the statement was false so he should have been poisoned, and they get stuck in this paradox, so they just let him go. Is that correct?
