I Have More Legs Than The Average Human!

And so might you.

Count the number of legs of all the people on earth and divide by the world's population. Given that there are more people with one leg or even no legs then there are people with three or more, the number returned looks something like this -

1.999...whatever.

I just checked again this morning, and sure enough - 2 socks, 2 shoes, 2 feet, and both sides of my jeans are occupied. I have two complete hairy wonderful legs. And that's more than the average person I may meet on the street. I feel so blessed.

Now depending on the size and nature of the group polled - circle of friends, office, class, mountain biking club - results may vary.

For example, in my first open water scuba class, out of 6 students, one had only one leg, and another had no legs! I was truly bonus in the leg department for that survey group.

Now the guy with no legs, I forget his name... Bob comes to mind, was truly remarkable. An inspiration to those of us packin' extra.

But the student with one leg was really the one to watch. Again the name escapes me...I wanna say Ilene but he was a guy. Anyway, another inspiration but I did feel a bit sorry for him. He could never cut a deal when buying fins and always swam in a circle.

Well, it appears I have strayed....

I had a dog with no legs once.
Never bothered to name him for obvious reasons.

Yeah, what's the point in naming a dog with no legs? A dog with no legs does not deserve a name, that's what he get for having no legs in the first place, right?
Is that where you were going with this?

This thread now reminds me of 2 dogs, Chicken and Sebastian.
They actually lived in the house next to my father's, and they were the best friends in the world. Now, Sebastian was a 15-year-old St. Bernard who was totally blind, and Chicken was a tiny little dog, don't know the breed but its fur was so short it was virtually non-existant, and it only walked on three of its legs, for reasons they couldn't for the life of them figure out - several vets had examined the leg and found it perfectly healthy.
Now, Chicken was a very scared little dog. At any time it could, it would crawl underneath your shirt and just sit in there, shivering with cold and fear - probably of the moving clouds, or a bee, or something.
Anyway, Sebastian and Chicken went everywhere together, and Chicken would be situated in any of 2 places: either underneath of Sebastian - between his legs - where no clouds could fall on his little head, or on top of him, if he was feeling tired of walking on his three little legs. Chicken also worked as a kind of radar for the blind Sebastian, because whenever Chicken stopped moving underneath the gigantic other dog, Sebastian would know that a chair, wall or bush would soon be in the way, and stop too.
Now, as Sebastian was close to 105 human years old, he of course would die at some point. He had lived a long life for a dog, and in the end he didn't even have the strength to walk up or down the little stairs to the house anymore. And one day he died. Unfortunately, this made Chicken so sad and without protection, that he also died a month later. He simply would not eat anything at all, and stayed inside, hidden, most of the time.
That was the true story of the most memorable dogs I have ever met. And yes, Chicken was in fact called Chicken - or Kylling, in Danish.

interesting concept. Of course, it also means you have fewer brains than most people, since there are a few siamese twins/people with 2 heads running around. . ..
