The 33 1/3 second mystery #27
One set of footprints in the snow led to the body on the bridge. Powder burns indicated the gunshot wound was delivered at contact range, yet no weapon could be seen anywhere. Other than a hole in the ice of the frozen river below the body, the only clue was a chip in the painted surface of the bridge railing where snow had been brushed away.
Homicide or suicide? Explain.

Suicide
He tide a rope around a rock or brick, attached it to the gun, dangled the rope with the rock over the side of the bridge, shot himself, then the rock drags the rope, which drags the gun over the railing where it knocks a hole in the ice and sinks to the bottom. Voila!

Homicide, then suicide... the guy on the bridge walked to the bridge before the snow had fallen, then somebody walked over to him (or her) after the snow came down leaving only one set of prints, then shot the person on the bridge and jumped into the river below. The chip on the bridge was from the gun because the murderer still had the gun in his hand when he jumped over, and because it was cold, he used the gun to support himself has he lept over the railing or his hand would have gotten stuck to the metal railing... or something to that effect...

Yes, I suppose it is plausible that someone would stand on a bridge freezing their ass off waiting for a blind date who caps them instead and in a moment of remorse, ends it all.
It's also plausible that the deceased was a double agent, was capped off site, carried onto the bridge by a Special Forces operative who dumps the body and is lifted from the bridge via a cable dropped from a helo. The cable nicked the bridge railing, and the hole in the ice isn't even germane to the scenario, as it was caused by an ice fisher earlier that day. Like I said-a stretch
