The 33 1/3 second mystery #24
You own a fast sports car, capable of 200 MPH on the flat. Your buddy runs a top fuel dragster and holds the record. You challenge him to a race, based upon you getting the advantage of a flying start.
When you cross the starting line at 200 MPH, he gets the green and chases you. Who gets to the end of the quarter-mile first? Assumptions: You maintain 200 MPH over the course. No mechanical issues on either side. He can duplicate his best time. As in school-guessing will not win. Show your math and cite to win the fuzzy bunny.

200 MPH / 60 = 3.33333 Miles per minute
(3+(1/3)) / .25 = 13.33333 Quarter miles per minute 60/13.3333 = 4.5 seconds per quarter mile. So, at 200MPH you would run from the starting line to the finish line in 4.5 seconds. Now, the current top fuel dragster record is set at 4.441 for the quarter mile, sans reaction time. Assuming that your guy hits the lights like clockwork and it's a great day, the track is hot and he doesent lose traction mid-quarter, the dragster would win the race. -SF |

WELL! It appears that the prize has been appropriately awarded while I was away from the keyboard.
Excellent math and research, saltfish, and many thanks for the outstanding avatar, jujueye.
