The 33 1/3 second mystery #12
When I entered the world, I had teeth.
According to most people, I kept them all until I was five, when I lost four. Before I was 10, I'd lost them all. What am I?

Although not a statue, truly an American icon.
I hope the answer doesn't disappoint, either. I'll check late tonight/tomorrow AM before being gone for the rest of the week.

Sorry, not a key. It is interesting that you mentioned shark, MrSelfDestruct, as I was given a second name before I was 20, a name used in addition to my first, and in reality, the bearer of my second name is often found hanging out with sharks.

I'm thinking it's a fighter jet. GM (I think) was making bombers for WWII at that time period, some of them had teeth painted on them. The B-24 Bomber was the first, I think. The P-40 had a Tiger on the front, not sure about the rest.
Eh? Fits all the clues, definitely an American icon.

(random) Lake Michigan Lampreys? (I'm from UK so no idea how famous these things are, but sea lampreys might attach to sharks and I've heard they're losing teeth due to something in the water...)

*DING*DING*DING* We have a winner! cybermike gets the latest fuzzy bunny.
The Corvette made its debut in 1953 with an oval grille featuring 13 teeth. This style continued through 1957, when the number was reduced to 9, which lasted until 1961. Years and numbers vary depending upon which 'Vette site you visit. Relation to sharks? How about Corvette Sting Ray? Every time I've visited an aquarium, the rays and sharks are hanging about the bottom. Thanks to all for making this one a good challenge-on to the next!
