Righty tighty, lefty loosey
So I almost put this in the Nonsense forum. But....
Where does the phrase "righty tighty, lefty loosey" come from? And is there any connection to politics? Would a liberal describe a conservative as too "tight"? I think so. And would a conservative describe a liberal as too "loose"? Perhaps. What do you think? Coincidence? Or secret plot by the Illuminati to foster stereotypes? |
Hate to blow another conspiracy theory but is just nuts and bolts - turn it to the right or clockwise to tighten it - left to loosen it. Inless it's a left hand thread - (Maybe they're Canadian)/
|
I believe it has to do with the way screws and bolts are put on, and it just kind of rymed. It's connection to politics I believe is just an amusing coincidence.
|
Yeah, it's a nut and bolt thing. Agreed that it's kinda of a funny coincidence that it can get political as well.
|
Sorry I wasn't more clear. I know that it's a nuts and bolts thing. Hence the coincidence question. Oh... never mind.
Apparently I fail at silly. sorry. :) |
Wow, and all the time I thought it referred to women!
|
Unless someone would care to make this a substantive thread, it will be moved to Nonsense.

I just used that phrase a couple days ago to make the point. A consultant who did a short video for our company website showing how a product works got it backwards, so his screw thread turned counterclockwise to loosen and it was a standard screw not reverse thread.
I think it's so important and a basic need to know that it should be move to Tilted Philosophy. |
