The 30 Second Mystery 70 - Why?
 

There are four categories: Who, What, Where and Why. Some will be easy, some not. I have as many as six clues to help you along, which I'll supply as needed.

Please limit yourself to one guess, and another guess for each clue I supply. No questions asking for help or hints are allowed. Partially correct answers won't be acknowledged. This is not a debate. The correct answer is the one in my head.

Wild guesses and comments are fine. In fact, they can add to the mystery and are fun to read. Be precise when guessing.

The Case:
A man's body is found, dead, sitting upright in a small windowless room. Had the year been 1989, he would not have died. The men that opened the door to the room knew he was dead before entering. He did not take his own life.

The Mystery:
Why wouldn't the man have died in 1989?

Because the death penalty was not in effect at the time.

Because the death penalty was repealed in that year.

-gotta try going the other way.

Archeologists opening the tomb of a mummy?
His illness would have been treatable?

Many executions have windows so that the family of the victims and others can witness the event.

maybe the cure for the disease he had was discovered in 1989
